Packing Instructions
1 General Requirements
To prevent the devices of the Thermo Scientific Vanquish series from
being damaged during transit when they need to be returned to the
factory, always use the original shipping container and observe the
packing instructions in this document.
Inappropriate packaging automatically voids the product warranty. If the
original packaging is no longer available, appropriate shipping containers
and packing material can be ordered from the Thermo Fisher Scientific
sales organization for HPLC products.

2 Preparing the Vanquish Modules
for Shipment
If you want to prepare a Vanquish module for transport, shipment or
return, follow the instructions in this section.
Safety Precautions for Transporting and Shipping the Vanquish Modules
CAUTION—Possible Contamination
Hazardous substances may have contaminated the device or component
during operation and may cause personal injury to service personnel.
Decontaminate all parts of the device that you want to return.
Fill in and sign the Health and Safety Form (ULS-SL-FRM-0001).
Missing, incompletely filled in, or unsigned forms will delay
processing and may result in the device or component being
returned without being inspected or repaired, or without credit
being issued.
NOTICE
Some modules need to be secured for transport and shipment to protect
the interior components of the modules from being damaged during
shipment.
Follow the instructions in the Transporting or Shipping section of the
Operating Manual for the respective module.
Observe the safety information presented in the Transporting or
Shipping section of the Operating Manual, and all specific safety
messages and precautionary statements else in the Operating
Manual for the respective module.

Packing Instructions
Preparing a Module for Transport, Shipment and Return
To prepare a module for transport, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the module for long-term shutdown.
Follow the instructions in the Shutdown section of the Operating
Manual for the respective module.
2. Prepare the module for transport as required.
Follow the instructions in the Transporting or Shipping section of the
Operating Manual for the module.
When returning a slide-in module:
Install the slide-in module to the enclosure of the replacement
device. Follow the steps for inserting the slide-in module in the
enclosure and tightening the captive screws in the Installing the
Slide-In Module section in Operating Manual for the module.
Additional steps required for any Vanquish module except the VH/VF-C10:
1. Slide the carrying handles that were installed when the system was
shipped on the rails at the right and left of the module from the rear
as shown in the figure below.
The final position of the handles must match the foam spacers used
for transport (15cm from the rear of the module to the center of
the handle).
Figure1: Sliding the carrying handle on the left rail
2. Fix the attachment screws on the carrying handles as shown below.
Figure2: Carrying handles attached
No. Description

CAUTION—Risk of Injury and Device Damage
Handles can slide off the device if the attachment screws are not fixed
properly. Also, the slide-in module can fall out if not fixed properly. This
could cause personal injury and damage to the device. Verify the
following before lifting a device:
The handles are fixed properly and cannot slide off the device.
The four screws on the slide-in module are tightened and the slide-in
module cannot fall out (see Operating Manual of the detector, for
example).
