Step 1: Pick a Sunny Place to Plant
Your ro se bu sh wi ll need at le ast 6 hours of su n ea ch da y, so choo se a su nn y
spot to pl an t.
Step 2: Dig a Large Hole
Di g a h ole sli ghtly lar ger than t he cont ain er. Wor k th e soi l at t he bo tt om of
the hole wi th your sh ovel so t hat i t is l oose and aera ted.
Step 3: Remove Rose from its Container
Remove the D ri ft® R ose fr om i ts container. Use your h ands to gent ly lo osen
the roo ts at the bo ttom of t he pl an t.
Step 4: Plant your Rose in Ground
Place the plan t in the h ole, en s u ri ng that the base of t he pl an t is le vel wi th
the soi l.
Step 5: Fill in Soil around Plant
Ad d s oi l b ac k to the hole aroun d the pla nt. Cru mble the soi l so th at i t i s n ice
and a erat ed. If desire d, m ulch aro un d the plant.
Step 6: Water Rose until Established
Wa ter y our Drift® Ro se t hor ou ghly aroun d the bas e of the plan t, a llowi ng i t
to so ak in. Re pe at as n eces sar y. Fo r the nex t couple o f weeks, che ck in a nd
wa ter t he pl an t as ne eded to en sur e it stays heal thy.
Pruning Drift® Roses

Step 1: Know the proper time
Pr une your r ose b ush in earl y spring, n ever in the f al l an d ne ver in the
win te r. C he ck your rose bu sh from ti me to tim e as sprin g moves alon g and
wh en you start to see ne w s h oots growing from th e cane s on yo ur ro se bush,
that s a good si gn that i t is time to prun e.
Step 2: Use proper tools
You will need a fe w ba si c tools when the ti me c om es to pr une your roses :
glove s, beca use of th e tho rn s on your ro se bu sh. L op pin g sh ear s , for some o f
the hea vier can es tha t are goin g to b e dif ficul t to c ut wi th some of the
sma ller shea rs. Small h an d shears, for som e of the fin er work, and a pair of
he dge trim mers to get t he job done quick ly .
Step 3: Determine how high you want to prune

we re commend c ut tin g it bac k b y about 2/3.
Dead Heading Drift® Roses
Step 1. Determine which blooms you'd like to get rid of
You wan t to leav e the blooms th at are still colorful a nd no t dri ed out. L oo k
for the blooms th a t have turned b rown an d cru nc hy.
Step 2. Find the five-leaflet set
Befor e cuttin g , look d own the s tem of the r os e you a re wantin g to ge t rid o f
and l oo k for a fi ve- le af le t set ( fi ve full le a ves toge ther) . You wan t to ma ke
your cu t just ab ove t he fi rs t fi ve -le aflet s et tha t y ou see.
Step 3. Make the cut
Ma ke th e cu t j us t abo ve the firs t five -leafl et se t and con tinue cuttin g out the
spent blooms until yo u are ha ppy wit h how your r ose b us h loo ks.

for Winter

dee ply an d tr im out any dead o r b ro ken c an es. Also, remo ve an y burlap
or pr otec tiv e cov eri ng tha t you m ay ha ve used t o wra p the plant.
In container:
To star t, leave the co n tainers ou tsi de throug h the fir st fe w frosts o f the
sea son, then b rin g them in side and store in a co ol , dark area su ch as
your ba se men t or gar a ge. I f you s tore you r contain er s i n the g ar age,
remember to pr ote ct them from the wi nter temperature s tha t can come
in as you o pen an d close the door. Kee p your con tainers in side un ti l the
threa t of t he la st f ro st has passe d (t ypi ca ll y i n early spring). Y ou'll w an t
to ch eck your roses peri odi ca ll y to ma ke su re they don' t dry ou t
co mplet el y. If t he y d o start to dr y o ut, wa ter t he m lightly.
Fertilizing Drift® Roses
Are y ou wonderin g w he n you shou ld fertilize y our r os es? T he good new s i s
that Drif t® Ro se s wi ll perfor m be autifull y even wi thou t fertilizing ! H owever,
if you choose to gi ve them an a ddi ti onal boos t, it' s very important no t to
fer ti liz e un ti l after the ro se s are es tablished an d go th ro ugh one bloom cycle .
Here are some additional tips:
1. Use a b alan ced f er til ize r or fertilizer for mu la ted f or ro ses from yo ur
lo cal gar den center an d ap pl y a ft er the fir st wave o f flowering (b e sure
to fo ll ow the speci fied ra tes and m ethod of a pplica tion provide d on the
pr oduct label) .
2. Ma ke sure the soi l is moist be fore you fer tilize to avoi d b urnin g th e
roots.
3. Do not ferti li ze late in the s umm er a s thi s is the tim e the r os e sho u ld
be pr ep aring th em selve s for d orm an cy an d you d o n ot w an t t o cre a te
unneces sar y ne w gro wth t ha t wi ll li kel y die b ack from th e fir st hard
