1. Before Using the Product
About the Product
This product is a USB2.0 compatible terminal module that extends the analog I/O function of USB
port of PCs. 8ch/16bits analog inputs and 2ch/16bits analog outputs(AI-1608GY-USB is only analog
input) are employed and signal lines can be directly connected to the screw terminals in the system.
Compact design to match Note PCs and excellent in mobility as operation is powered by USB bus.
This product accompanies Windo ws dri ver and f ull-fledged dat a logger software “C-LOGGER”.
With plug-ins for the dedicated libraries, this product also supports LabVIEW.
Features
- Input 4µsec/ch, 8ch, output 10µsec, 2ch, 16bit resolution
Equippe d with the analog input (4µsec/ch, 16bit, 8ch), analog output (10µsec, 16bit, 2ch) and digit al
I/O (4ch each, LVTTL level)
- Compatible to USB1.1/USB2.0 and not necessary to po wer this product externally as t he bus po wer
is used.
Compatible to USB1.1/USB2.0 and capable to achie ve high s peed transfer at HighSpeed (480 Mbps).
Not necessary to power this product externally as the bus power of USB is used.
- Equippe d with the buffer memory which can be used in either FIFO or ring format
This product includes buffer memory (8K data for analog input and 1K data for output) which c an be
used in either FIFO or ring format. You can perform analog I/O in t he background, i ndependent of
software and the current status of the PC.
- Windo ws compatible dri ver libraries are att ached.
Using t he attac hed dri ver library AP I-USBP(WDM) makes it possible to create applications of
Windo ws. In addition, a diagnostic program by which the operations of hardware can be checked is
provi ded.
- Supported to the data logger software [C-LOGGER] (Analog input onl y).
Supporting the data logger software [C-LOGGER] t hat e nables the gr aph display of recorded signal
data, file savi ng, and dynamic transfer to the spreadsheet software program “Excel.
- Sampling can be dri ven by a clock or by various triggers
Sampling can be started and stopped by software or by an external trigger (timing controlled by an
externally input control signal).
The sampling period can be controlled by t he internal clock (high-precision timer included on the
board) or by an external clock (externally input control signal).
- Ter mi n al connector facilitating wiring
Wiring is easy as t he terminal connector (screw type) is used.

- Software-based calibration function
Calibration of analog input/output can be all performed by software. Apart from the adjustment
information prepared before shipment, additional adjustment information c an be stored according to
the use environment.
- Plug-ins for the dedicated li braries, this product also supports LabVIEW. (AIO-160802GY-USB
only)
We offer a dedicated librar y [DAQfast for LabVIEW], which allo ws yo u to use the product on
LabVIEW by National Instrume nts.
These dedicated libraries are available, free of charge (downloadable), on our web site.

You should use CONTEC s upport software according to your purpose and de velopment environment.
Windo ws version of analog I/O driver API-AIO(WDM)
[Stored on t he bundled disk dri ver librar y API-USBP(WDM)]
The AP I-AIO(WDM) is the Windows version dri ver librar y software that pro vides products in t he
form of Win32 API functions (DLL). Various sample programs suc h as Visual Basic and Vis ual C++,
etc and diagnostic program useful for checking operation is pro vided.

Data Logger Software C-LOGGER
[Stored on t he bundled disk driver librar y API-USBP(WDM)]
C-LOGGER is a data logger software program compatible with our analog input products. This
program enables the graph display of recorded signal dat a, zoom observation, file saving, and dynamic
transfer to the spreadsheet software Excel. No troublesome programming is required.

LabVIEW VI Library for Data Acquisition DAQfast for LabVIEW (AIO-160802GY-USB only)
(Available for downloading (free of charge) from the CONTEC web site.)
This is a data collection library to use our devices in the LabVIEW by Nationa l Instruments.
With Polymorphic VI, our design enables a LabVIEW user to operate seamlessly.
Our aim is for t he customers to perf orm eas ily, promptly what they w ish to do.

Limited One-Year Warranty
CONTEC products are warranted by CONTEC CO., LTD. to be free from defects in material and
workmans hip for up to one year from the date of purchase by the original purchaser.
Repair will be free of charge only when this de vice is returned freight prepaid with a copy of the
original invoice and a Return Merchandise Authorization to the distributor or the CONTEC group
office, from which it was purchased.
This warranty is not applicable for scratches or normal wear, but only for the electronic circuitry and
original products. The warranty is not applicable if the de vice has been tampered with or damaged
through abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or unreasonable use, or if the original invoice is not included, in
which case repairs will be considered beyond t he warr anty policy.
How to Obtain Service
For replacement or repair, return the device freight prepaid, with a copy of the original invoice. Please
obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization number (RMA) from the CONTEC group office where
you purchased before returning any product.
* No product will be accepted by CONTEC group without the RMA number.
Liability
The obligation of the warrantor is solely to repair or replace the product. In no event will the
warrantor be liable for any incidental or consequential damages due to such defect or consequences
that arise from inexperienced usage, misuse, or malfunction of this de vice.

Insufficiently energized products could malfunction, o verheat, or cause a f ailure.
- When connecting multiple units, do one at a time and complete setup for the pre vious unit before
starting to do t he next unit.

What is Setup?
Setup means a series of steps to take before the product can be used.
Different steps are required for software and hardware.
The setup procedure varies with the OS and software used.
Installing the driver
This section describes the setup procedure to be performed before you can start de veloping application
programs for the board using the bundled media “Dri ver Library API-USBP(W32)”.
Taking the following steps sets up the software and hardware. Yo u can use the di agnosis program
later to check whether the software and hardware function normally.

This section describes how to install the Driver libraries.
Before i nstalli ng the hardware on your PC, install the Dri ver li braries from the bundl ed
API-USBP(W32).
Altho ugh some user interfaces are different depending on the OS used, the basic procedure is the
same.
For the detailed installation procedures for different operating systems, see the help file on the
included media (\Help\Eng\APIUSBP.chm) or in the folder in which you i nstalled t he De velopment
Environment package downloade d from the CONTEC website (APIUSBP.chm) .

Starting the Install Program
(1) Load the bundled media [ API-USBP(WDM)] on your PC.
(2) The API-USBP(WDM) Instal l er wi ndow appears automati call y.
If the panel does not appe ar, run ( dri ve letter):\AUTORUN.exe.
(3) Click on the [Instal l Development or Execution Envi ronment] button.
Before installing the software in Windows 2000 or later, log in as a user with administrator
pri vileges.

Selecting API-AIO(WDM)
(1) The following dialog box appears to select “Driver to install” and “Install option”, “Usage of
driver library”.
(2) Select the "Advanced Anal og I/O driver".
(3) Cli ck on the [Install] button.
Run the installation
(1) Compl ete the installation by fol lowi ng the i nstructions on the screen.
(2) The Readme file appears when the install ation i s complete.

Install the data collection software.
(1) Clicking o n C-LOGGER”.
[Choose Setup Language] dialog box displ ays.
(2) SelectingEnglish”.

Please perform installation following the directions on the screen. And thus the installation is
completed.
