FEATURES
Please read this Safety & Operation Manual before you install and use
this unit, and please follow the instructions. Please pay attention to any
Warnings or Notices in the text.
Route the power cord so that it is not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed
upon or against them, paying particular attention to the plugs, receptacles, and the point
where the cord exists from the appliance.
Please disconnect the unit if any of these conditions occur:
Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords or convenience receptacles beyond their
capacity, since this can result in fire or electric shock.
Do not use an unsuitable outlet, it might be dangerous.
Check the connection regularly. If any rupture or failure in insulation occurs, call for
maintenance and have them replaced.
To ensure reliable operation and to protect it from overheating, the unit must be used
in a well-ventilated area.
Do not use power-line operated sets near water – for example, near a bathtub, washbowl,
kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc.
Do not place the unit on an unstable object. The set may fall, causing serious injury to
a child or an adult, and serious damage to the unit.
Never let any liquid spatter on the unit. It might cause electric shock or fire hazard.
Never place the unit near or over such objects: for example, radiators, heat registers,
stoves, or other heat sources (including audio amplifiers).
Unplug the unit from the wall outlet before cleaning or polishing it. Do not use liquid
cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a cloth lightly dampened with water for cleaning the
exterior of the unit.
Never place heavy object on the unit.

The copyright protected content cannot be copied, broadcast, screened, cablecast,
or played publicly and rented, unless it is authorized.
Do not use cracked or anamorphic discs in the unit, or it might damage the loader.
Do not repair the unit yourself. Opening or removing the cover may expose you to
dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
Unplug the unit and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the
following conditions:
A. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed
B. If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the unit
C. The unit has been exposed to rain or water
D. If the unit does not operate normally when following the operating instructions
E. If the unit has fallen or the cabinet has been damaged
F. When the unit exhibits a distinct change in performance – this indicates a need
for service
Tips: Upon completion of any service or repairs, ask the service technician
to perform routine safety checks to determine that the unit is safe to operate.
Remote Control Notice
--Aim the remote directly at the receiver on the unit while operating it.
--Do not let the remote fall, especially from a high place
--Do not place the remote in a hot or moist location
--Do not let any water or other liquid fall on the remote
--Do not open the remote control, except to changeits batteries
--Do not use the remote control at a distance greater than 7 meters (about 23 feet) from
the unit, nor at an angle which exceeds 30° away from the center of the TV
--Do not expose the infrared receiver on the JD-VD502 (see page B1, item 13) to a
strong light source, such as sunshine or bright lights, or the remote control may not
operate consistently

Playing a CD (e.g. music) disc
1. Place the CD in the disc compartment.
2. The unit automatically shows the disc's contents.
3. On the remote control, choose the number key(s) that corresponds to the track
to be played.
For example: --If you want to play Track 8, press the "8" number key.
--If you want to play Track 12, first press the "+10" number key,
followed by the "2" key. The combination of "+10" and "2"
corresponds to 12.
Playing a VCD (Video CD) or SVCD (Super-Video CD) disc
1.Place the VCD or SVCD in the disc compartment.
2.After reading the disc, the PBC (Playback Control) menu will display on the
TV screen if the disc has been provided with one. See the NOTICE, below.
3.Choose the chapter you want to play by pressing the corresponding number on
the remote control. Use the "+10" key, if necessary, as described above.
NOTICE: If your VCD or SVCD disc has been recorded with a PBC (Playback
Control) track, your JD-VD502 will display that information as a menu system
on the TV screen, which provides convenience when choosing which part of the
disc's contents will be played.
Bear in mind that the PBC information must be on
the disc for the menu to be displayed.
Play DVD disc
1.Place a DVD in the disc compartment.
2.The unit reads the DVD and automatically plays the disc, displaying any menu
provided.
3.Using the keys on the remnote control, choose the desired contents you want.

Basic playback
Playing an MP3 disc:
1.Place the MP3 in the disc compartment.
2.After the unit reads the contents of the MP3 disc, the TV screen will
display the menu in the manner shown below:

1.Choose the desired folder of file you want by moving the cursor, and
press “Enter” to confirm your selection.
2.If you chose a folder, then the files within the folder are displayed.
3.If so, choose the desired MP3 track you want by moving cursor, pressing
Enter to confirm, or you can choose it directly through the number keys.

Playing a Kodak Picture CD disc:
1.Place the Kodak Picture CD in the disc compartment.
2.After reading the contents, it will play automatically.
Playing a disc with JPEG files:
1.Place a disc with JPEG files in the disc compartment.
2.After unit reads its contents, it will show the list of .JPG files on the TV
screen.
3.Choose the JPEG file you wish to view by moving the cursor to highlight it,
and then by pressing "Enter" to view it. Alternatively, you may choose the
number keys.

Press this key to turn the JD-VD502's power on and off.
2 [OPEN/CLOSE]
Press OPEN/CLOSE to open the tray, and then place the disc on it. Press this button again to close
the tray. When the disc has loaded, the TV screen will display the disc type, and its content will be
automatically played or displayed. Note that discs containing MP3 and JPEG files cannot be played
automatically.
3 [PLAY/ENTER]
Press to play or confirm your selections.
4 [PAUSE/STEP]
In play mode, press this key to pause; each subsequent press will move the picture one frame at a time.
Press "PLAY" again to resume normal playback.
5 [MENU]
In the DVD play mode, press MENU key once to return to the most recent submenu. Press it again to
return to the main menu. For VCD and SVCD playback, refer to the details on page C1.
Once done, press the number key selecting your desired song. If you want to cancel disc playback,
press the MENU key. The TV screen will show "PBC off". Then, press number keys to select desired song.
6 [STOP]
Press STOP one time, and the unit will memorize the stopped position. When the unit continues playing,
it will play from the previously stopped position. Pressing STOP the second time causes the unit to stop
playing and cancels the memorized position.

When playing DVCDs (Dual VCDs--an extended length VCD format), SVCDs, VCDs, CDs, and MP3s,
press <Skip Backward> to go to the previous chapter. When playing DVDs, press <Skip Backward> to
go to the previous chapter or title. Press <Skip Forward> to advance to the next chapter.
2 [REW/FF]
When playing DVDs, SVCDs, VCDs, CDs, and MP3s, press this key to play forward or backward,
according to the figure below:
3 [AUDIO]
If the S-VCD, VCD, or CD disc has multi-channel capability, you can press this button to select the
sound from left channel out, right channel out, stereo out, or downmix out .
Press this button to select your desired language when playing DVD, S-VCDs which have
multi-language capability.
4 [TITLE]
Press this button to return to the title of the first chapter or playback selection.
5 [CLEAR]
Clear memory playback: Select the memory position you want to play by using the direction keys on
the remote control.
Note: If the power is off or the disc is removed, all the memorized positions will be lost.
6 [ZOOM]
By pressing this button, you can appreciate the zoom picture. Only in the zoom state can you move the
picture by the remote control's direction keys.
7 [VOL]
Volume: Press these keys to adjust the output volume.
Press the "+" key to increase the volume in up to 20 upward steps. Press the "--" key to decrease the volume in
up to 20 downward steps.

Three modes of operation are available using the Remote Control's PROGRAM key. Press once to change:
1. Folder Play Mode
In the folder mode, press the remote control's direction keys to select the desired MP3 folder, and press the
Enter key to view the folder's contents. Then, press the remote's direction keys to select the desired MP3
file, or use the remote control's number keys (as in ###, e.g. 009) and press Enter to make the selection.
2. Normal Listing Play mode
In the Normal Listing Play mode, the unit will read all tracks of the disc, and play the contents of each folder
in turn. Press the number key to select the tracks to be played directly.
Play MP3 disc:
After the unit reads the contents of the MP3 disc, the TV screen will show the following:

Viewing a Kodak Picture CD:
After the unit reading the content of a Kodak picture CD, the TV screen displays:

to confirm.

1. Moving to theselected item will produce a relevant list of features at the bottom of the screen.
2. If a selection is "grayed out" it cannot be chosen in the current context.
3. The setup selections remain in effect even when the unit's power is off.

Hdcd
This setup can adjust to different sampling rates
used by HDCD discs by using multiples of the standard
44.1 KHz sampling rate found on common CDs.
Choose the correct sampling rate for the HDCD disc
being played.

When the Screensaver is on, to prevent aging or damage
to the TV's CRT picture tube, if applicable, a floating
picture will be produced for several minutes after the unit
stops playing, preventing a possible "burned-in" image.

There are several setup pages discussed in the following
material. In the Audio category, there are two main areas:
Downmix:
Dialog volume:
In LT/RT or stereo output mode, set up this item
to adjust voice, within the range from 0 to 20.
SYSTEM SETUP
SPDIF output:
When you have an external audio system (e.g. a Home Theater
System) that can accept digital audio signals via a coaxial or
optical cable, SPDIF should be turned on (see below). Doing
so enables the digital signals that leave the JD-VD502 to be
processed by Dolby and DTS Home Theater systems, among
many other devices that have internal decoders capable of
RAW decoding.
Select SPDIF/RAW when you have a receiver that can decode
the digital signal internally. SPDIF is the preferred option in
most cases. If you don't hear any output, then switch to
SPDIF/PCM.
Select SPDIF/PCM when the unit is connected to a 2-channel
digital stereo amplifier, or equivalent device, which does NOT
have the ability to decode the signal.
Select SPDIF/OFF if you do not have a receiver capable of
processing digital audio.

This option allows you to set the output methods for
the left and right audio signals. There are 4 modes:
stereo,left sound channel, right sound channel, and
mixed sound channel, to be selected according to the
AC-3 KARAOKE mode.
Dynamic
You can change the zip mode to “Dual Mono” in
order to adjust linear zip ratio and obtain the zip
effects for different signals. If you choose FULL, the
peak value of audio signal is minimum, and becomes
maximum if you choose off.

Component:
S-Video: Choose this setting if your DVD player
is connected to a TV with an S-Video cable or
composite video cables (Yellow/Red/White).
Tv-Mode:
Interlace-YUV: Choose this setting if your DVD
player is connected to a TV with Y, Cb, Cr video
cables.
P-SCAN: Choose this setting if your DVD player
is connected to a progressive scan TV with Y,
Cb, Cr video cables.
ightness:
Setup this item to control the brightness of
image, available range from 0 to +20.
Hue:
Setup this item to control the hue of image,
available range from 0 to +9.
Contrast:
Setup this item to control the contrast of
image, available range from 6 to +16.

TV TYPE:
The JD-VD502 can operate with every type of TV
throughout the world. Select your TV type below:
Multi : Automatically selects the "TV Type" according
to the color system of any disc that is currently playing.
NTSC: Taiwan, Japan and USA use this type.
PAL: Hong Kong, China and Europe use this type,
When the "TV Type" is inconsistent with this setup,
the screen will be incoherent and difficult to view.
Audio: Subtitle and disc menu language setup:
If a disc is equipped with corresponding subtitles,
audio menu languagesupport is valid. However, if
the disc has only a fixed language, this setup will
be invalid.
Default:
Selecting this option returns the player's settings
to their original factory (default) settings.
