2 IMPORTANT SAFETY

INSTRUCTIONS

2.1 Read and follow the instructions

Read the instructions before using the appliance. Always follow

the instructions carefully. Assembling or using the appliance

differently can cause ﬁres and material damage.

Damages caused by not following the instructions

(improper assembly, misuse, inadequate maintenance...)

are not covered by the warranty.

2.2 Use your common sense

Use your common sense when working with the appliance:

• Do not leave the appliance unattended when in use.

• Warning! The appliance will become very hot, do not move it

during operation.

• Use appropriate protection when handling hot parts.

• Keep ﬂammable materials, ﬂammable liquids and dissoluble

objects away from an appliance in use.

• Warning! Keep children and pets away from an appliance in

use.

• Keep a bucket of water or sand at hand when using the

appliance, especially on very hot days and in dry areas.

•

Warning! Do not use indoors.

2.3 Select an appropriate location

Use the appliance outdoors only. Using it indoors, even in a

garage or shed, can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.

When selecting an outdoor location, always:

•

Make sure the appliance is not under an overhanging

structure (a porch, a shelter...) or under foliage.

• Put the appliance on a ﬁrm and stable surface. Never put it

on a moving vehicle (a boat, a trailer...).

3 ASSEMBLING THE APPLIANCE

3.1 Safety instructions

•

Do not modify the appliance when assembling it. It is very

dangerous and not allowed to alter parts of the appliance.

•

Always follow the assembly instructions carefully.

•

The user is responsible for the correct assembly of the

appliance. Damages caused by improper assembly are not

covered by the warranty.

Remove all securing components including labels, plastic

security elements and protective ﬁlm ect. prior to assembly

and ﬁrst use of the ﬁreplace. Assembly must be performed

by two adults in accordance with the instructions in 3.2.

Failure to comply with the warnings, cautions and

recommandations intended to prevent hazards listed

in this instruction may result in ﬁre, explosion severe

bodily injury, ill health, dead or damage to property.

Note : Use only wood or charcoal in the ﬁreplace. Do not

load more than 3 kilograms of permitted material into the

ﬁreplace. Failure to comply with this recommandation will

cause the combustion chamber (walls of the ﬁreplace) to

burn out sooner and will permanently remove the corrosion

protective coating. In extreme circumstances it may result

in a permanent deformation of the ﬁreplace structure!

Never touch or lean on the ﬁreplace or place objects at the

bottom of the structure. Failure to comply with this

instruction may lead to severe bodily injury, death or property

damage.

NOTE : Emty the ashtray only after the ﬁreplace

has cooled down completely and use gloves to avoid burns.

The combustion chamber is made of steel and may expand

when exposed to high temperatures. Constant temperature

ﬂuctuations may, under certain conditions, lead to micro

cracks or warps in the walls. These are not defects and do

not adversely affect the stability and performance ofb the

structure. All corrosion spots which may appear in the

combustion chamber will become oxidised as long as the

ﬁreplace is used regularly.

NOTE : First prepare a concrete base capable of carrying

the weight of the ﬁreplace.

Laying cobbles or foundation for the ﬁreplace :

Remove the soil until you reach the appropriate depth.

Level and compact the bottom of the trough. Depending on the

type of soil, build a 15-30 cm thick (up to 60 cm thick in case of

loamy soil) foundation of concrete or broken stone whose

dimensions are equel to, or greater than, the base of the

ﬁreplace. When laying cobbles, ﬁrst lay a 3 cm thick bedding

layer of cement and sand and then lay the cobbles. Then

compact the surface using a vibrating plate compactor with a

plate of vulkollan or rubber. Fill in the gaps between cobbles

with dry and sifted sand with a grain size of 0-3 mm, brushing

the sand in. Place the structure of the ﬁreplace centrally on the

cobbled surface or set concrete.

The foundation must be even and smooth. In case the

ﬁreplace is entended to be placed on a terrace or a

similar location, the place needs to be ﬁrst inspected

by a professional to identify whether it can carry the load.

If the ﬁreplace is placed near a building, at least a 10 cm gap

must be left between the wall of the building and the ﬁreplace

to ensure proper ventilation.

Note! The above instruction applies to cobbles laid on a

foundation in a sandy or gravelly soil only. In case of loamy

soil, an additional drain layer, 20 to 60 cm thick, needs to be

build. Contact professionals from the building and paving

industry for a detailed instruction how to build the surface. A

proper foundation made from suitable materials and cobbles

laid in accordance with the best paving practice are essential

to guarantee a long-lasting surface and user safety.

4 GETTING THE APPLIANCE READY

4.1

FOR USE

Lighting the appliance

When using the appliance for th e ﬁrst time, let it burn for

30 minutes. This removes any remaining manufacturing

greases from the appliance.

A ﬁreplace that has not been assembled properly is unsafe.

The ﬁreplace needs to be positioned on a concrete base

capable of carrying the weight of the ﬁreplace. The base

must be perfectly even and smooth. In case the ﬁreplace

is intended to be placed on a terrace or in a similar location,

the place needs to be ﬁrst inspected by a professional to

identify whether it can carry the load.

Stones need to be purchased seperately!

It is recommended to ﬁll the ﬁreplace structure with stones

whose sizes are not smaller than the mesh eyes. Larger

stones need to be placed manually, with a proper

supervision to ensure a correct and consistent assembly

without unnecessary gaps and clearances. Pay attention to

even distribution of the load over the entire structure. Close

the holes in the combustion chamber tightly to prevent

smoke penetration. Put the stones carefully to avoid

deforming the structure of the ﬁreplace. It is recommended to

seek help from a professional to ﬁll in the structure!

NOTE: Failure to comply, even partially, with the

instructions contained in this document will nullify

warranty claims.

When starting ﬁre and using the ﬁreplace never wear clothes

with loose sleeves. In order to extinguish ﬁre from coal and

wood, never use water, snow, extinguishers ect. Using the

ﬁreplace when under the inﬂuence of alcohol and/or

substances may impair your ability to comply with the safety

instructions and instructions for use.

NOTE : The entire structure has been hot-dip galvanised.

Prior to ﬁrst use of the ﬁreplace for grilling, it must be

preheated at least twice ( 2 x 1,5 hours up to not more

than 400° C) in order to remove the top zinc coating from

the combustion chamber. The preheated process needs

to be repeated every time the ﬁreplace is subject to

maintenance.

Do not use spirits, petroleum and such like to start ﬁre in

the ﬁreplace. Burning liquid fuels as well home and

garden waste in the ﬁreplace is prohibited. Only use ﬁre

starters compliant with EN 1860-3.

5 MAINTAINING THE APPLIANCE

In order to protect the ﬁreplace from unfavourable weather

conditions, it is recommended to cover entire structure with a

waterproof material for winter. Snow accumulated on the walls

of the ﬁreplace structure may cause corrosion spots to appear.

Check the heating components such as the combustions

chamber and the chimney pipe for tightness.

When using sharp objects to clean the grate or remove ash,

you may damage the top coating of the ﬁreplace structure.

Clean the combustion chamber regulary without using

chemical substances and mechanical devices that may

damage the coating of the ﬁreplace.

If you plan to not use the ﬁreplace for a long time, clean

corrosion spots, if any, on the outer surfaces of the

ﬁreplace and the combustion chamber. Use a regular

anti-corrosion spray for maintenance.

Ordering spare parts5.1

Parts that are directly exposed to ﬁre or intense heat have to be

replaced from time to time. To order a spare part:

1 Look up the reference number of the part you need. You ﬁnd

a list of all reference numbers below the exploded views in

the second part of this manual and on www.barbecook.com

If you registered your appliance online, you will

automatically be guided to the correct list.

2 Order the spare part at your point of sale. You can order

parts both under and outside warranty.

6 WARRANTY

Covered6.1

Your appliance comes with a warrant y of two years, starting from

the date of purchase. This warranty covers all manufacturing

defects, provided that:

• You used, assembled and maintained your appliance

according to the instructions in this manual. Damages

caused by misuse, incorrect assembly or inadequate

maintenance are not regarded as manufacturing defects.

• You can present the receipt and the unique serial number of

your appliance. This serial number starts with a C, followed

by 15 digits. You can ﬁnd it:

- On this manual.

- On the packaging of the appliance.

• The Barbecook quality departme nt conﬁrms that the parts

are defective and that they proved defective under normal

use, correct assembly and adequate maintenance.

If one of the above conditions is not met, you cannot claim any

form of contribution. In all case s, the warranty is limited to the

repair or replacement of the defective part(s).

6.2 Not covered

The following damages and defects are not covered by the

warranty:

• Normal wear and tear (rusting, distortion, discolouration...) of

parts that are directly exposed to ﬁre or intense heat. It is

normal to replace these parts from time to time.

• Visual irregularities that are inherent to the manufacturing

process. These irregularities are not regarded as

manufacturing defects.

• All damages caused by inadequate maintenance, incorrect

storage, improper assembly or modiﬁcations made to

pre-assembled parts.

• All damages caused by misuse and abuse of the appliance

(not using it according to the instructions in this manual,

using it for commercial purposes, using it as a ﬁre basket...).

• All consequential damages caused by careless or

non-compliant use of the appliance.

• Rust or discolouration caused by external inﬂuences, the use

of aggressive detergents,... These damages are not

regarded as manufacturing defects.
