Warning!
It is advisable to have an Öhlins dealer install the
shock absorber.
When installing, consult your Vehicle Service
Manual.
1
Raise the rear end of the snowmobile so the
track is off the ground.
Warning!
Make sure the vehicle is securely supported so
that it will not tip.
2
Loosen the rear suspension by removing the
screws, one on each side of the vehicle.
3
The rear suspension has two forks on top of
the front arm. Lift the fork off the axle and the
rear suspension is detached.
4
Release the spring preload of the rear
suspension by removing the screw. Hold the
spring in a rm grip and release the spring
carefully. Repeat on the other side of the
vehicle. We advise you to have an assistant
for this procedure.
Warning!
The springs are heavily preloaded. It is very
important to hold the spring in a firm grip
when removing the attachment. Use gloves for
protection.
5
Remove the hose clamp that holds the
original shock absorber reservoir.
6
Loosen the upper attachment of the original
shock absorber. Remove the screw through
the hole in the idler wheel. See figure 6.
7
Loosen the lower attachment of the original
shock absorber.
8
One crossmember needs to be moved
towards the rear end of the vehicle. Drill a
10 mm (3/8 “ ) hole 13 mm from the original
hole. Repeat on the other side. See figure
below.
9
Put Loctite on the thread before attaching the
crossmember into the new hole.
10
Install the Öhlins shock absorber. Attach the
lower attachment. Use the original bushings,
screw and the nut.
11
Attach the upper attachment through the hole
in the idler wheel. Use the original screw,
washer and nut. The reservoir should be
pointing downwards and the rebound adjuster
upwards.
12
Reattach the spring preload of the rear
suspension. See step 4 for safe procedure.
Warning!
The springs are heavily preloaded. It is very
important to hold the spring in a firm grip
when removing the attachment. Use gloves for
protection.
13
Put the rear suspension back into the track.
Tighten the screws, one on each side of the
vehicle.
Caution!
Make sure that all screws are tightened to the
correct torque and that nothing fouls or restricts
movement of the shock absorber when the
