AT-PWR4 Auxiliary Power Supply Features
The Allied Telesis AT-PWR4 offers maximum protection against service
interruption. The AT-PWR4 may be installed with the AT-MCR12 fully
populated and on line. In service, the AT-PWR4 provides automatic load
balancing for one or two power supplies. If a power supply should fail, the
green power indicator goes out, and on-the-fly switching transfers the entire
load to the auxiliary power supply unit. Once a replacement is obtained, it can
be installed (hot swapped) without requiring the AT-MCR12 to be powered
down.
Reviewing Safety Precautions
Please review the following safety precautions before installing the AT-PWR4.
Note
The indicates that a translation of the safety statement is available in a
PDF document titled “Translated Safety Statements” (613-000405)

Installing the AT-PWR4 Auxiliary Power Supply
To install an AT-PWR4 power supply into an AT-MCR12 chassis, perform the
following procedure:
1. Remove the two screws that secure the blank plate that covers the
auxiliary power supply bay. The blank plate comes off revealing the
empty bay as shown in Figure 2. Keep the blank plate and screws in case
you choose to remove the auxiliary power supply in the future.
Figure 2 Removing the Blank Plate.
2. Orient the AT-PWR4 power supply housing as shown in Figure 3. Install
the power supply in the chassis bay by sliding the housing loosely into the
bay. Seat the AT-PWR4’s power connector firmly in the mating connector
on the backplane inside the rackmount chassis. Tighten the two thumb
screws to complete the installation.

Figure 4 Connecting the AC Power Connector to Switch
2. Connect the power cord to an appropriate power outlet.
3. The power supply is self-adjusting for AC input power between 120 Volts and 240
Volts.
4. Verify that the POWER (PWR A or PWR B) LED is green. If the LED is OFF, refer
to the following “Testing and Troubleshooting the Installation” section.
The switch is ready for network operations.
Testing and Troubleshooting the Installation
Follow the guidelines in this section for testing and troubleshooting the
installation in the event a problem occurs.
1. Verify that the
POWER (PWR A or PWR B) LED is green. If one of the LEDs
is OFF, do the following:
Check to be sure that the power supply is securely connected to the
power outlet.
Check to be sure that the power supply is securely seated in the
chassis.
2. Check to be sure that the fans for both power supplies are operating. If a
fan is not operating, it is likely that the power supply has failed.
