MCW-D 50 Conference Software - Version 5.x
1. Introduction
Using the MCW-D 50 Conference software you can configure numerous parameters for the MCW-D 5xx microphone units and the
MCW-D 50 control unit via PC. The configuration is completed for all microphone units.
Furthermore, the MCW-D 50 Conference software includes the basic version of the “Controller” program (for a maximum of 5
participants) to control the discussion system via PC. For the full version (unlimited number of participants) you have to purchase a
license.
3. Installation
Connect the MCW-D 50 control unit and your PC to the
mains.
Connect the RS 232 interface or the LAN connection of
the MCW-D 50 control unit to the appropriate Port of your
PC. When using the LAN connection to connect the
MCW-D 50 control unit to a PC, you must use a crossover
cable.
Switch on the PC.
Put the CD-ROM with the MCW-D 50 Conference software in
the CD-ROM drive and install the software into the desired
directory on your hard disk.

Important:
This manual describes a standard configuration for the control unit and the microphone units. The MCW-D 50 control unit and
the microphone units must be switched on during the whole configuration process. Switch the microphone units on by briefly
pressing the microphone button.

4. Putting into Operation
Switch on the MCW-D 50 control unit with the power
switch on the rear.
When the MCW-D 50 control unit is ready for use, the green
Power LED and the appropriate number of channel
LEDs will illuminate on the front.
Warning: The MCW-D 50 control unit takes approximately 30
seconds to boot up and become ready for use. During this
time the Power LED and the Channel LEDs will flash red.
Switch on the microphone units by briefly pressing the
microphone button once. The green LED on the rear of
the microphone units will illuminate.

Start the software.
Open the CONNECTION TYPE window under the
CONNECTION menu.
Select the COM port or the LAN interface (TCP/IP)
of the PC to which the MCW-D 50 control unit is connected. If you
select TCP/IP, you must enter the IP address and the port number
of the MCW-D 50 control unit to which you would like to connect
to.
At the factory the IP address 192.168.1.102 (Port 1024) has been
set.
Select the CONNECT button in the CONNECTION TYPE window
only when the control unit is ready for use.
For automatic connection when the software is started again, tick
the check box ENABLE AUTOMATIC RE-CONNECT.
The status bar of the program indicates, if the MCW-D system is connected (green LED symbol) or not (red LED symbol), which
operating mode has been selected and how many channels are reserved for the delegate units (green) and the chairman units
(green with red rim). A red LED symbol indicates an occupied channel. Furthermore, you can select the desired language in the
status bar.

5. Startup Settings
In the STARTUP SETTINGS window under the EXTRAS
menu you can select which sub-menus are to be
displayed when the Conference software is started
again.
If some menu items are not to be displayed, remove the tick from the
appropriate check box and select the OK button.
If the Controller program is to be opened immediately when the Conference soft-
ware is started, tick the check box START IN CONTROLLER MODE and select the OK
button. When the Conference software is started again, the Controller program
will be opened immediately.
Note:
When using the LAN interface (TCP/IP), please make sure that
the LAN connection of the PC has been configured to the same
address range as the MCW-D 50 control unit. If your PC uses an
address range different from 192.168.1.xxx, you should establish
a connection via RS 232 and configure the MCW-D 50 control
unit to the used address space. Please refer also to chapter
6. Configuration LAN Connection.

6. Configuration LAN Connection
The MCW-D 50 control unit also supports the
TCP/IP protocol.
If you want to work with TCP/IP, please make
sure that the PC to which the MCW-D 50 is
connected is configured properly for the TCP/IP
protocol.
Please make sure that the IPX protocol is deactivated on your PC.
Open the CONNECTION TYPE window under the CONNECTION
menu. If you select the TCP/IPoption, the MCW-D 50 control unit
will support the TCP/IP protocol and a window will be opened
where you can enter the IP address to which you would like to
connect to. Please make sure that you enter the correct IP address
which is stored within the MCW-D 50 control unit. The last
connected IP address will be stored in the Conference Software so
that it is not necessary to type the IP address again with each
connection.
In the LAN SETTINGS window under the SYSTEM menu you can enter all settings for the network protocol of the MCW-D 50 system.
IP-Address
When the MCW-D 50 control unit is connected to a PC directly,
please enter any IP address that is in the range of the network
adapter of the PC.
When using the MCW-D 50 control unit in a local area network,
please ask your network administrator for the IP address, the
MCW-D 50 system is connected to.
In both cases, the port number has to be in a range between 1024 and 65535.
Select the STORE IP ADDRESS button to save the IP address.
At the factory the IP address has been set to 192.168.1.102 (Port 1024).
Subnet Mask
Please enter the used subnet mask of your local area network. Normally, this will
be 255.255.255.0 or similar.
Gateway
If you use networking devices as gateways (e.g. Proxy Server) you can enter a
gateway address for this device. If you do not use the gateway option, please enter 0.0.0.0
How to select the Interface of the PC
Note:
After setting the TCP/IP protocol reboot your PC to activate the selected protocol.
The use of Firewalls, etc. can affect a proper TCP/IP connection to the MCW-D 50 control unit.
If the MCW-D 50 system is connected to the PC directly, please use a “Crossover” network cable. For connection over a local area
network, please use a normal “Patch” cable.
At the factory the IP address 192.168.1.102 (Port 1024) has been set.
Settings for the network protocol
Note:
The MCW-D 50 Conference Software stores the connection type that was used before. When the software is started again, you
can select CONNECT under CONNECTION to connect to the control unit. If the check box ENABLE AUTOMATIC RE-CONNECT is
activated in the CONNECTION TYPE window the MCW-D 50 Conference Software will connect automatically with the connection
type being used before when started again.

7. Licensing
In general, the software on the MCW-D 50
Conference CD is free of charge.
If there is no license for the Controller
installed on the MCW-D 50 control unit,
the program is limited to a maximum use
of 5 microphone units.
If you would like to use the full version of the Controller for an
unlimited number of participants, you need a license which you
can acquire from beyerdynamic. To acquire a license please inform
your beyerdynamic dealer about the ID number of the MCW-D 50
control unit which is shown in the LICENSE MANAGER.
ATTENTION:
The ID number of the control unit is only shown when there is an
active connection to the MCW-D 50 control unit.
For installing a license, open the LICENSE MANAGER under
EXTRAS. Enter the registration code and select the ADD button.
The LICENSE MANAGER will indicate the added license type.
License for the full version of the Controller
Note:
You cannot use the same license for different MCW-D 50 systems.
A license is hardware dependant and will only work with the MCW-D 50 control unit it was purchased for.
Note
The advantage of the AUTO LOCK function is that the microphone units search for a
MCW-D 50 control unit automatically when switched on to be configured to the frequency
band of the control unit. If you change the frequency band of the RF module (e.g. to
avoid interferences caused by WLAN), the microphone units will search for the control
unit automatically and reconfigure to the changed frequency band.
If you want to operate several MCW-D 50 conference systems (e.g. in adjacent conference rooms), proceed as described below:
1. Activate the control unit and all microphone units of system 1.
2. Connect the MCW-D 50 conference software.
3. Set the frequency band of the RF MODULE 1 (e.g. LOW). All active microphone units in the AUTO LOCK mode will be configured
to the current frequency band automatically.
4. Deactivate the check box ENABLE AUTO LOCK. All active microphone units remain on the selected frequency band. If you
want to check this, you can select a different frequency band for the RF MODULE 1. Now the LED above the microphone
button of all microphone units will flash.
5. Switch off the microphone units and the control unit of system 1.
6. Activate the control unit and all microphone units of system 2.
7. Proceed with system 2 as described above for system 1, but select a different frequency band.
With this procedure you can configure a maximum of 3 MCW-D 50 discussion systems, provided each control unit is equipped
with one RF module only.

8.1 RF Settings
Control Unit
In the window RF SETTINGS you can select a frequency band for each module of the
MCW-D 50 control unit under CONTROL UNIT SETTINGS. The standard MCW-D 50 control
unit is equipped with one RF module for which you can select the frequency band under
RF MODULE 1.
The frequency range of 2.4 - 2.483 GHz is divided into three bands: Low, Mid and High.
Open the pull-down menu to select the desired frequency band LOW, MID or HIGH .
How to switch on/off individual Modules
If you use the MCW-D 50-9 control unit equipped with three RF modules, the appropriate
check box ENABLE MODULE is ticked. When setting the frequency band, please note that
for each module you have to select a different frequency band.
Example: RF Module 1 = Low, RF Module 2 = Mid, RF Module 3 = High
To switch off one module, remove the tick from the appropriate check box.
If the module is switched off, the appropriate channel LEDs of the MCW-D 50 control unit
will extinguish.
Microphone Units
In the RF SETTINGS window under MICROPHONE UNIT SETTINGS you can set the micro-
phone units to the frequency band of the control unit.
If you tick the check box ENABLE AUTO-LOCK, the microphone units search for an active
MCW-D 50 control unit automatically when switched on.
8. System Configuration
Open the RF SETTINGS window under the SYSTEM menu to see the current settings of the discussion system.

8.3 How to set the Time of the Meeting
If you want to set the time of the meeting to check how much time has elapsed,
open the CONFERENCE CLOCK window under the CONFERENCE menu.
Select the SET button and enter the time of the meeting in the HH:MM:SS format
(e.g. 04:30:00) into the field TIME REMAINING. Select the STORE BUTTON.
When the meeting starts, select the START button.
In the field TIME ELAPSED you can see how much time of the meeting has elapsed already. With the
RESET button you can reset the time to the stored value in the field TIME ELAPSED.
To close the window select X or the OK button.

8.2 How to enter the PIN Code
To avoid unauthorised listening of the discussion, an 8-digit pin code can be
entered for all microphone units of one system.
Enter a password i.e. a combination of numbers or letters into the empty field
of SYSTEM PIN CODE in the PIN PROTECTION window.
By default the word KEYWORD has been entered in the empty field.
If you would like to enter something else, highlight the word and enter another word or
combination of numbers or letters.
Select the SEND TO MUS button to transmit this code to all microphone units and tick the check
box ENABLE PIN PROTECTION.
Important: The password will be transmitted to all microphone units which have been configured to the appropriate frequency
bands and which are within the range of the control unit.
How to enter the PIN code
Note:
As soon as the PIN code is activated within the MCW-D 50 system, all microphone units without the right code will be switched
off. A PIN protected system allows to operate only microphone units which have the same code as the MCW-D 50 control unit. If
you want to add microphone units to the system please proceed as described below:
1. Deactivate the check box ENABLE PIN PROTECTION.
2. Activate the microphone units to be operated within the system. Make sure that there is a radio communication between
these microphone units and the control unit and switch off all other microphone units.
3. Change the password in the SYSTEM PIN CODE field.
4. Select the SEND TU MUS button to transmit this code to all microphone units.
5. In order to activate the PIN code tick the check box ENABLE PIN PROTECTION.

Important:
The threshold and the hold time have to be adjusted under VOICE ACTIVATION SENSITIVITY (= threshold) and MU HOLD TIME
(= hold time). We would recommend a MU HOLD TIME of 2 - 3 seconds and a VOICE ACTIVATION SENSITIVITY of -15 dB.
If you work with echo cancellers tick the check box LAST MIC HOLD under OPTIONS to keep one microphone open for a proper
function.
VOICE ACTIVATION
In this mode the microphone of the switched on microphone unit
is activated as soon as you speak into it. There is no need to press
the microphone button to activate the microphone.
The red LED ring of the gooseneck microphone will illuminate and
the LED above the microphone button will illuminate green.
In the VOICE ACTIVATION mode the check box DISABLE MANUAL
POWER OFF is ticked by default and cannot be deactivated. This is
to avoid switching off the microphone unit accidentally by
pressing the microphone button too long.
Furthermore, in the VOICE ACTIVATION mode the check box
COUGH is ticked by default. In this case the microphone button
acts as a cough button when it is pressed, i.e. the microphone is
muted as long as the microphone button is pressed.
If you tick the check box ENABLE NOM MODE you can select
under SET NOM LIMIT how many microphones are to be opened
simultaneously.
If you tick the check box OVERRIDE/FIFO in addition to ENABLE NOM MODE, the microphone that has been activated first, will be
switched off when the number of open microphones (NOM) is exceeded.

8.4 How to set the Operating Mode
Open the CONFERENCE SETTINGS window under the CONFERENCE menu to select the operating mode of the discussion system.
Under AUTONOMOUS OPERATION MODES you can select the operating mode NORMAL, PUSH-TO-TALK or VOICE ACTIVATION.
NORMAL
In this operating mode the microphone button
of the switched on microphone unit is
pressed briefly to activate the microphone.
The red LED ring of the gooseneck microphone
will illuminate and the LED above the microphone button will
illuminate green.
If the microphone button is pressed briefly once again, the micro-
phone is switched off while the microphone unit remains switched
on.
In the NORMAL operating mode the following options are available:
DISABLE MANUAL POWER OFF. If you tick this check box the
microphone cannot be switched off by pressing the microphone
button (> 3 secs).
ENABLE NOM MODE. If you tick this check box, you can select
under SET NOM LIMIT how many microphones are to be opened
simultaneously. Please note the function SET NOM LIMIT depends on the maximum number of channels available for delegate
units.
OVERRIDE/FIFO. If you tick this check box in addition to ENABLE NOM MODE, the microphone that has been activated first, will
be switched off automatically when the number of open microphones (NOM) is exceeded.
PUSH-TO-TALK
In this mode you must held down the microphone button when
you want to speak into the microphone.
The red LED ring of the gooseneck microphone will illuminate and
the LED above the microphone button will illuminate green as
long as the microphone button is held down.
In the PUSH-TO-TALK mode the check box DISABLE MANUAL
POWER OFF is ticked by default and cannot be deactivated.

8.5.1 How to register Microphone Units automatically
If you want to register the microphone units automatically, first of all switch on the MCW-D 50 control unit and all microphone
units. Refer also to chapter 4. Putting into Operation.
Tick the check box AUTOMATIC MU REGISTRATION in the MU EDITOR window. When the microphone button of an active micro-
phone unit is pressed, the microphone unit is “registered” by the MCW-D 50 control unit and its ID and serial number are entered
into the list. The number corresponds to the serial number, which can be found on the bottom of the microphone unit.
In order to enter the participant’s name, select the appropriate serial number of the microphone unit in the participant’s list.
Enter the name of the participant into the field NAME.
In the field ID NUMBER you can enter an ID number for the microphone unit; e.g. 1, 2, 3 etc.
Ex works, the ID number of all microphone units corresponds to the last four digits of the serial number printed on the bottom
of the microphone units.
Select the MODIFY button to transmit the data into the list.
If you select the ALLOCATE button, it is possible to identify which microphone unit relates to the indicated ID or serial number.
The red LED ring and the green LED above the microphone button of the relevant microphone unit will illuminate. With the

Open the MU EDITOR window under the
CONFERENCE menu to create a list of participants
with ID numbers and names. You can configure
individual microphone units as delegate or chairman
unit.
If the microphone units are operated in the Normal, Push-to-talk or Voice
activated mode, it is not absolutely necessary to register them.
Microphone units, however, that are controlled with the PC-controlled
mode of the Controller program must be registered in the list.
The communication within the system is via ID numbers, which can be
also changed if necessary. With the ALLOCATE button you can check
which microphone unit belongs to each ID NUMBER.

8.5.2 How to register Microphone Units manually
Select the ADD NEW MU button in the MU EDITOR window.
In the field ID NUMBER you can enter a number for the microphone unit you would like to register; e.g. 1, 2, 3 etc.
Enter the name of the participant into the field NAME.
Select the ADD TO LIST button to enter the data of the participant into the list of participants.
When you highlight an activated microphone unit in the list of participants and select the READ SER.NO. button, the serial
number of the microphone unit will be displayed in the field SERIAL NUMBER.

8.5.3 How to edit the Data of one Microphone Unit

8.5.5 How to configure a Microphone Unit as Delegate or Chairman Unit
If you register the microphone units manually, you must configure if it is a delegate or chairman unit.
For delegate units activate DELEGATE; for chairman units activate CHAIRMAN.
You can also configure a real chairman microphone unit with three buttons as a delegate unit. Please note, if a chairman unit is
configured as a delegate unit, the clear and function buttons will not operate.
Highlight the appropriate microphone unit in the list of participants and activate DELEGATE.

Important:
With the standard version of the MCW-D 50-3 control unit you can use and configure a maximum of three microphone units
as chairman!
Please note that for each chairman a channel is reserved which is no longer available for the delegate units.
If you use two chairman units with the standard version of the MCW-D 50-3 control unit there is only one channel left for the
delegate units.
8.5.6 Function Button of the Chairman Unit
When a microphone unit is determined as a chairman unit, the
pull-down menu CHAIRMAN PRIORITY MODE will be displayed.
Here you can configure the function of the function button.
Please make sure that the selected microphone unit is a real
chairman microphone unit.
Depending on the configuration with the MCW-D 50
Conference Software, the function button of the chairman
unit has one of the following functions.
With all functions a command is sent via the RS 232 or LAN
interface from the MCW-D 50 control unit.
From the pull-down menu CHAIRMAN PRIORITY MODE you
can choose the function of the function button, if the micro-
phone unit to be configured is a real chairman microphone
unit.
For the priority modes NORMAL, MUTE, MUTE AUX IN, MUTE
AUX IN & CLEAR and MUTE AUX OUT, all chairman units
display if the priority is on or off. The microphone LED starts
flashing as soon as the priority is turned on. Flashing is in
green or red, depending on the status of the microphone
units (microphone activated or deactivated). The LED will return to its normal status as soon as the priority is deactivated. Only
one priority mode can be activated at a time. Any other chairman priority will be blocked while one priority is activated.

1. NORMAL (= factory settings)
All activated delegate units are cleared when the microphone of the chairman unit is switched on. The delegates can switch on
their microphone again when the priority mode is deactivated.
2. MUTE
All active delegate units are muted temporarily when the chairman is speaking. As soon as the microphone of the chairman unit
is switched off, all delegate microphones previously active, are then re-activated.
3. CLEAR
All active delegate units are cleared. The delegates can activate the microphone again.
4. MUTING AUX IN
Enabling this facility allows the function button to mute the external Aux In port of the MCW-D 50 control unit by a single press
of the button. By pressing again, the Aux Input is reopened.
If the chairman presses the priority button, the audio signal at the Aux Input of the MCW-D 50 control unit will be muted. The
LED above the microphone button of the chairman unit will start flashing red (slowly). When the chairman turns on his micro-
phone, the LED above the microphone button will flash green (slowly). If the chairman turns off priority the LED above the
microphone button will illuminate green permanently, if the microphone is still on.
5. MUTING AUX IN & CLEAR
Muting of balanced Aux In port & clearing of all active delegate units.
If the chairman presses the priority button, the audio signal at the Aux Input of the MCW-D 50 control unit will be muted and all
delegate units will be cleared. The LED above the microphone button of the chairman unit will start flashing red (slowly). When
the chairman turns on his microphone, the LED above the microphone button will flash green (slowly). If the chairman turns off
priority the LED will illuminate green permanently, if the microphone is still on.
6. MUTING AUX OUT
Enabling this facility allows the function button to mute the external Aux Out port of the MCW-D 50 control unit by a single
press of the button. By pressing again, the Aux Output is reopened.

7. COM MESSAGE
A command is sent via the RS 232 serial interface of the MCW-D 50 control unit and a programmed function is carried out via a
media control system (e.g. light control). Various other functions are also possible using this facility. Please refer to the separate
MCW-D 50 interface protocol list for further details.
8. CUSTOM
The CUSTOM mode will allow to specify two custom RS 232 strings (for press button long/short) that can be entered manually. A
window will open where you can enter two RS 232 string.
< 1 second = SHORT press string is transmitted
> 1 second = LONG press string is transmitted

9. Audio Settings
Open the VOLUME FADERS window under
the AUDIO menu.
Under MIX SETTINGS you can select different
modes such as NOM ATTENUATION,
TELECONFERENCE MODE and N-1 MIXING.
The volume can be adjusted under VOLUME.
MASTER: controls overall system level
AUX IN: controls the volume of the inputs (XLR bal. and RCA
unbal.) of the control unit
AUX OUT: controls the volume of the outputs (XLR bal. and RCA
unbal.) of the control unit
MIC UNITS: volume of the loudspeakers of the microphone units
With MUTE you can mute each volume control.
The signal flow can be seen under AUDIO and AUDIO SETTINGS.
There you can make the same settings as in the VOLUME FADERS window.

9.1 Special Options
9.1.1 NOM Attenuation
The NOM ATTENUATION is a reduction of the master volume
depending on the number of active microphones within the
system.
The NOM ATTENUATION function is used to avoid feedback when
multiple microphones in the same room are switched on at the
same time.
When the NOM ATTENUATION function is activated, i.e. the check
box ENABLE NOM ATTENUATION is ticked, the master volume is
decreased 3 dB per double the number of activated microphone
units.

9.1.2 N-1 Mixing
The N-1 mixing mode controls the routing of the audio signals
that are connected to the Aux inputs (XLR or RCA phone sockets)
of the MCW-D 50 control unit.
If the check box ENABLE N-1 MIXING is not ticked, the Aux inputs
are mixed with the signals of the microphone units and routed to
the master.
If the check box ENABLE N-1 MIXING is ticked, the Aux inputs of
the MCW-D 50 control unit are directly routed to the loudspeaker
of the microphone units.

9.1.3 Teleconferencing
The TELECONFERENCE MODE controls the audio signal which is
reproduced by the loudspeakers of the microphone units.
If the check box ENABLE TELECONFERENCE MODE is not ticked,
the signal of the master (signals of the microphone units and the
Aux inputs) is reproduced by the loudspeakers of the microphone
units.
If the check box ENABLE TELECONFERENCE MODE is ticked, the
signal of the master is not reproduced by the loudspeakers of the
microphone units. By activating the check box ENABLE N-1
MIXING, however, the signal of the Aux inputs can be still looped
through to the loudspeakers of the microphone units.

9.2 Diagram of the Audio Settings
Select AUDIO and open the AUDIO SETTINGS (GUI) window. Here you can make the same settings as in the VOLUME FADERS
window. Refer also to chapters 9. Audio Settings and 9.1 Special Options.
In this window you can activate or deactivate the N-1 MIXING or TELECONFERENCE MODE with the ON/OFF buttons.
Two different colours indicate the flow of the audio signals.
The Master combines the signals of all microphone units.
If the N-1 MIXING MODE is deactivated, the Aux inputs are mixed with the signals of the microphone units and routed to the
master.
If the N-1 MIXING MODE is activated, the Aux inputs of the MCW-D 50 control unit are directly routed to the loudspeaker of the
microphone units.
If the TELECONFERENCE MODE is deactivated, the signal of the master (signals of the microphone units and the Aux inputs) is
reproduced by the loudspeakers of the microphone units.
If the TELECONFERENCE MODE is activated, the signal of the master is not reproduced by the loudspeakers of the microphone
units. By activating the N-1 MIXING MODE, however, the signal of the Aux inputs can be still looped through to the loudspeakers
of the microphone units.

10. How to update System Components with new Firmware
In the SHOW FIRMWARE VERSIONS window under the EXTRAS
menu you can display the firmware version of the control unit
and all microphone units.
Select the appropriate REFRESH button to display the current
firmware version of the control unit or the microphone units.
Please make sure that the control unit and the microphone units are switched on.
The FIELD PROGRAMMER function under EXTRAS is for re-programming hardware
components of the MCW-D 50 system. With the FIELD PROGRAMMER you can update
all system components such as: CU Core, CU Main Processor and MU Main Processor.
In the following it will be described how the FIELD PROGRAMMER function can be
used for updating the x.x version to y.y version of a MCW-D 50 system without
additional hardware.
10.1 Update File Key

10.2 Update Process
Warning: The FIELD PROGRAMMER
function should only be operated by
qualified and instructed staff.
Do not use the FIELD PROGRAMMER
when the MCW-D 50 system is in use
during a meeting, as some components will be non-functional
during some parts of the update process!
Do not update microphone units with a low battery level! If the
power LEDs of some units are flashing, please charge them before
starting an update process.
In the FIELD PROGRAMMER window you can open update files
(.mfu). If you choose an update file, the appropriate system
component will be displayed under LOADED DESTINATION.

By pressing the START UPDATE button any system component is set into the update mode. This means the component waits for
programming data and is non-functional for the moment. The enabled component will not return to normal operation until the
update process was successfully accomplished. The enabled system component will not leave the update mode even when
re-booting it!
If you are not sure of how to use the FIELD PROGRAMMER function, please do not start an update process and contact beyerdynamic
for assistance!
a) Update of the CU Core
1. Select the LOAD UPDATE FILE button in the FIELD PROGRAMMER window. Open the
UPDATE FILES folder and select the CUMO5YY.MFU file.
2. Select the START UPDATE button to update 6.
3. When the progress bar has finished, restart the MCW-D 50 control unit when prompted.
To restart the MCW-D 50 control unit press Reset on the front of the control unit or
switch off the control unit and on again. Should the Conference Software be disconnected
from the MCW-D 50 control unit during the update process, stop the update, reconnect
the software and repeat the update.
4. Reconnect the Conference Software.
5. Open the SHOW FIRMWARE VERSIONS window under the EXTRAS menu and select
the REFRESH button under CONTROL UNIT. In the field CU CORE the y.y. version is
displayed after a successful update.

b) Update of the Main Processor (Main PIC) of the Control Unit
1. Select the LOAD UPDATE FILE button in the FIELD PROGRAMMER window. Open the
UPDATE FILES folder and select the CUMA5YY.MFU file.
2. Select the START UPDATE button to update the Main Processor of the control unit. The
Power LED of the MCW-D 50 control unit should now illuminate red and all 9 Channel
LEDs should flicker green. This shows programming data being correctly transferred to
the Main PIC. If the LED changes to flickering red, some data was not transmitted
properly and the update process has to be repeated.
3. When the progress bar has finished, the Power LED of the MCW-D 50 control unit
should illuminate green.
4. Restart the MCW-D 50 control unit when prompted by pressing the Reset button on
the front of the control unit or by switching the control unit off and on again. The
Power LED of the MCW-D 50 control unit should turn green after boot-up (approx. 10 - 15 seconds).
5. Reconnect the Conference Software.
6. Open the SHOW FIRMWARE VERSIONS window under the EXTRAS menu and select the REFRESH button under CONTROL UNIT. In
the field CU MAIN PROCESSOR the y.y version is displayed after successful update.
c) Update of the Main Board PICs of the Microphone Units
1. Select the LOAD UPDATE FILE button in the FIELD PROGRAMMER window. Open the
UPDATE FILES folder and select the MUMA5YY.MFU file.
2. Select the microphone units you want to be updated. You can select all or individual
microphone units (enter the appropriate ID number). Please make sure that all micro-
phone units are turned on. For testing we assume to use a single microphone unit.
3. Select the START UPDATE button. The LED of the microphone button and the LED ring
of the gooseneck of the chosen microphone units should illuminate red. This shows
that the Main PICs in the microphone units have been set into the update mode.
4. The chosen microphone units will be updated. All mic LEDs should now flicker green.
This shows programming data being correctly transferred to the PICs. If one or more
LEDs change flickering red, some data was not transmitted properly and the update
process has to be repeated.
5. At the end of the update process all microphone units are switched off automatically, as the new firmware is only activated after
a restart of the microphone units.
6. Open the SHOW FIRMWARE VERSIONS window under the EXTRAS menu and select the REFRESH button under MICROPHONE
UNITS. After successful update the x.x version is displayed in the FIRMWARE column.
How to update CU Main Processor
How to update the Main Processor of the
microphone units
Note:
The wireless update of the microphone units is made via the RF link between the MCW-D 50 control unit and the microphone
units. If the RF link is disturbed (e.g. by WLAN) or if the microphone units are almost out of range, individual microphone units
might not receive the update data correctly. During the update process the LED of the microphone button of these microphone
units does not flicker green anymore and after the update process these microphone units are not switched off automatically. In
order to update a larger number of microphone units proceed as described below:
1. Switch off the microphone units to be updated.
2. Place all microphone units to the MCW-D 50 control unit as close as possible.
3. Load the update file for ALL MUS in the FIELD PROGRAMMER window.
4. Perform the update.
5. If not all microphone units are switched off automatically after the update process, repeat the update process until all
microphone units are switched off.
Important:
During the update process the microphone units are in the programming mode and are not ready for use. Do not change the RF
frequency band of the MCW-D 50 control unit during the update process, as all microphone units to be updated will lose the
link to the control unit.

11. Status Display of all Microphone Units
Open the MU STATUS VIEWER window under SERVICE.
A table showing the configuration data of all microphone
units in real time will be opened.
By using the REFRESH button you can update the display.
If you select the ALLOCATE button, it is possible to identify which microphone
unit relates to the indicated serial number. The red LED ring and the green
LED above the microphone button of the relevant microphone unit will
illuminate.
To close the window select the X or CLOSE button.
Description of the Abbreviations:
• ID = identification number of the microphone unit
• SerNo = serial number of the microphone unit
• Name = name of the participant
• Status = status of the microphone unit (switched on, participant is speaking etc.)
• Type = type of the microphone unit (chairman or delegate)
• Battery = battery status
• RF-Quality = RF quality
• Updated = display of the time when the microphone unit was activated lately

12. Monitoring the RF Level
If you open the RF QUALITY window under SERVICE, you
can monitor the quality of the RF transmission between
control unit and microphone units. This function is for
example very helpful to find the right antenna position.
Under RF MODULE SUCCESS RATE you can see how the individual module is
operating when you select the START SCAN button.
Under RF QUALITY TEST you can check the quality of the transmission to all
or individual microphone units.
If you want to check the quality of the transmission to all microphone units,
activate ALL MUS and select the START SCAN button.
If you want to check the quality of the transmission to individual microphone
units, activate SINGLE MU. Enter the ID number of the appropriate microphone
unit into the field ENTER ID NO. For a one-time data transmission activate the
option SINGLE SHOT MODE. For an endless data transmission activate the
option CONTINUOUS MODE. Select the START SCAN button to start.
Under BIT ERROR RATES you can read the error rate for individual microphone
units.
