dateatthe10Gb/slineratetoastandardcompliantoptical
signal.ThereceivesideoftheXFPconvertstheincoming
DCbalancedserialNRZopticaldataatthe10Gb/s
linerate
intoserialelectricaldata.

INSTALLATION
InspecttheXFP.Ifdamaged,fileaclaimwiththecarrier
andthencontactADTRANCustomerService.
ToinstalltheXFPintoanappropriatemodule,complete
thefollowingsteps:
1. InserttheXFPintotheXFPcageonthecircuitboard
ofthehostmodulewiththelatchhandlefacingout
ward.Slide
theXFPallthewayintothereceptacle.
NOTE
ThelatchontheXFPisforremovalon ly.Whenremoving
theXFP,rotatethe latchawayfromtheXFPcageuntila
physicalclickoccurs.TheXFPshouldslideeasilyoutofthe
cage.
2. Usingthumbandforefinger,exertadequatepressure
toensuretheXFPiscomp letelyseatedintheXFP
cage.
3. Donotremovetheconnectorpluguntiltheoptical
fiberconnectionismade.
NOTICE
Itisrecommendedthattheconnectorplugremainon
wheneverthe transceiveropticalfiberconnectorisnot
inserted.
4. Continuetheinstallationandturnupofthehost
moduleusingtheinstructionsintheJobAidprovided
withthatmodule,orusingtheInstallationand
MaintenancePractice(I&M),availableonlineat
www.adtran.com

TheXFPisnotdirectlyprovisionable.Toprovisionthe
XFP,accessthemenusystemofthehostmodule.Referto
the“Provisioning”sectionoftheJobAidorInstallation
andMaintenancePracticeprovidedwiththehostmodule
forprovisioningdetails.
SAFETY AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE

ElectrostaticDischarge(ESD)candamageelectronic
modules.Whenhandling modules,wear anantistatic
dischargewriststraptopreventdamagetoelectronic
components.Place modulesin antistatic packing
materialwhentransportingorstoring.Whenwor ki ng
on modules, always place them on an approved
antistaticmatthatiselectricallygrounded.
The XFP meets or exceeds all the applicable
requirementsofNEBS,TelcordiaGR63CORE,andGR
1089CORE.TheXFPisintendedfordeploymentin
CentralOfficetypefacili ti es ,EEEs,EECs,andlocations
where the NEC applies (for example, Customer
Premises).TheXFPis to beinstalled inADTRAN
productsin Restricted
Access Locations only, and
installedbytrainedservicepersonnel.
ThisdevicecomplieswithFCC47CFRPart15,ClassB.
Operationissubjecttothefollowing twoconditions:
1. Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference.
2. Thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,

partofanIsolatedBondingNetwork(IBN).
PerGR1089CORESection9, theXFPdoesnothavean
internalDCconnectionbetweenbatteryreturnand
frameground. The XFP can beinstalled in a DCI
(isolated) or DC C (common) configuration. For
installationswhereothercardsorthehostsystemhave
internalconnectionsbetweenbatteryreturnandframe
ground,
thesystemwouldbeintendedfordeployment
onlyinaDCCconfiguration.
TheADTRANsystemchassisframegroundterminal
mustbeconnectedtoareliableearthgroundtoensure
that the metal enclosure of the XFP is properly
groundedviathebackplaneconnector.
