How to reset your DualSense wireless controller
If you’re having issues with your controller, often the first troubleshooting step is to reset your
controller.
1. Turn off your PS5 console.
2. Locate the small reset button on the back of the controller.
3. Use a small tool to push the button inside the hole. Hold the button down for roughly 3
5 seconds.
4. Connect the controller to your PlayStation®5 console using the USB cable that came
with your console, and press the PS button.
If you’ve tried resetting your controller and are still having issues, please select an issue from
the options below.
For Analog and Button Related issues:
1. The Analog stick or a button is unresponsive: Before proceeding, make sure your
DualSense wireless controller is charged enough.
Previously set PS5 Accessibility settings may interfere with the issue; please check how to
disable the settings in case you have unintentionally enabled them.
In most cases, this issue can be resolved by resetting the DualSense wireless controller.
Disconnect the DualSense wireless controller from the official USB cable.
On the back of your controller, to the right of the SONY logo, you will find a tiny hole
the reset button is inside this hole.
Use a small, unfolded paper-clip (or something similar) to press and hold the reset
button for at least five seconds.
Your controller should now have been reset.
Connect your controller to the PS5 system using the official USB cable.
Connect to a Type-A High Speed USB port on the front or rear of the PS5 system.
Press the PS button to pair your controller with the PS5 system.
is this issue affecting one game, multiple games, or all PS5 menus and apps too?: Let's try deleting the
DualSense wireless controller's device profile from your PS5. To do this, go to Settings > System
Software > Reset Options > Restore Default Settings, and you'll see a list of settings that will be reset.
Don't worry, your users, games and save data won't be affected! Hit Restore to begin the process. Your
PS5 will restart, and you'll need to pair your DualSense wireless controller with your system again by
connecting the official USB cable.
2. The Analog stick or a button is stuck: Sometimes this is caused by foreign substances on the
analog stick base or button. Use a soft cloth to remove any dirt from the base of the analog stick
or button and retry.
