According to the laws governing product liability, the manufacturer and dealer are obliged to hand the
operating manual to the customer at the time of sale, and to instruct them in the recommended operating,
safety, and maintenance regulations. Confirmation is necessary to prove that the machine and operating
manual have been handed over accordingly.
For this purpose,
- document A is to be signed and sent to Pöttinger,
- document B remains with the dealer supplying the machine,
- and the customer receives document C.
In accordance with the laws of product liability, every farmer is an entrepreneur.
According to the laws of product liability, property damage is damage caused by a machine and not to
it. An excess of Euro 500 is provided for such a liabilioty.
In accordance with the laws of product liability, entrepreneurial property damages are excluded from
the liability.
Attention! Should the customer resell the machine at a later date, the operating manual must be given
to the new owner who must then be instructed in the recommended regulations referred to herein.

HITCHING
Hydraulic hoses and electrical cables
Note: Overlengthed hydraulic hoses and electrical cables
are fitted to the machine. This enables the machine to
be coupled to various tractors
• Roll hydraulic lines and electrical cables together
appropriately and secure with cable binders (K).
• Rotating rotor must not damage hydraulic
hoses and electrical cables.
There must always be sufficient distance to
the rotating parts even when cornering.
• Observe lengths "L1 and L2"!
Hitching of machines with three point linkage
Safety hints:
see supplement-A1 points 7.), 8a. - 8h.)
- Pinning the machine to the three point linkage.
- Fix the hydraulic lower link (4) in such a way that
the machine cannot swing out sideways. Push
in the support foot (5) and secure.
Drive shaft adaption
"Shorten the drive shaft" see Supplement-B .
Connecting hydraulic system to the tractor
For reasons of accident prevention the
p.t.o. must be switched off and the rotors
must come to a stand still before raising
the side rotors.

Parking in the open
• When parking for longer periods in the open, clean
plunger rods and then coat with grease.
Important!
- The runner wheels on the swivelled up rotors are
to be turned vertically.
Doing this will prevent rain water from penetrating
the wheel bearings.
Winter storage
The runner wheels should be disengaged when garaging
the implement.
Lowering the rotary tedder
Always park implement stabily!
- secure against rolling and tipping over.
• The implement can be parked while in the transport
or working position.
- Secure bolts in position B on the headstock
(SB).
Important!
Only reposition bolts when the machine is in the
raised position.
- Lower the machine with the tractor hydraulic system
and place on support foot.
- Pull off drive shaft and rest on support.
Do not rest drive shaft on safety chain (H)!
- Remove hydraulic cables.
- Unhitch machine from tractor.

Up to 2005 model
Before uncoupling
- Using the crank (1) till the implement far enough forward
in order to prevent it from tipping back.
- Fold support stands down and secure
- Then uncouple the implement from the tractor.
From 2006 model
(for EUROHIT 47, EUROTHIT 54)
Before uncoupling
- Fold front support stand down and secure
- Pull rear support stand out and down and secure with
pin (V)
- Use both support stands (otherwise danger of
tipping).
- Then uncouple the implement from the tractor.
Note!
When in operation the support stand must be placed
in the upper position and secured with pin (V).
Lowering the machine
(Danger of tipping!)
- Only park implement with side rotors swivelled up
(Danger of tipping).

Special mounting frame
• The special mounting frame is particularly recommended for
operation in alpine regions.
• The rotor unit can be moved toward the tractor in 4 stages
(4x50 mm).
Advantage: The rotor unit and with that the centre of gravity are then
located as close as possible to the tractor.
Moving the rotor unit
1. Raise machine
2. Remove the locking pins of both shock absorbing struts
(variation)
- left and right
3. Remove both fixing bolts
4. Move the machine using the threaded spindle

ADJUSTMENTS BEFORE OPERATION
Adjustment of rotor inclination
Safety points
• Turn engine off when adjustment, service and repair
work is to be done.
• Do not work under the machine without safe
support.
Implement with slewing headstock "N"
The cog enables the darrier axles to be adjusted within a swivel
range of 10°.
1 setting = 1° alteration to rotor inclination
A lot of fodder = greater angle
Not much fodder = smaller angle
Driving on public roads:
• Observe the official regulations of your country.
• Travelling on open roads may only be carried out as described
in chapter "Transport position".
Total implement width in the working position: more than 3
m
Total implement widht in the transport position: see Techn.
Data
• Always swing the outer rotors in before transporting.
Only in this position is the maximum permissable
transport width not exceeded.
No-one can be injured by the rotor tines in this
position.
Hydraulic lower link
- Fix the hydraulic lower link (U) in such a way that the machine
cannot swing out sideways.
Tine adjustment
Tine position can be altered
by turning the tine carrier
(80).
• Position "S1"
Standard position (ex facto-
ry)
• Position "S2"
For use under difficult condi-
tions, e. g. with very dense,
awkward forage. This tine
position increases the strewing action.

Conversion from working to transport position
Safety Precaution!
Changing from working position to transport position
is only to be carried out on even, firm ground.
• For safety reasons, turn off drive shaft and wait for rotor to
stop completely.
• Make sure that swivel area is free and that nobody is standing
in the danger area.
Hydraulic raising (Variation)
- The outer rotors are raised into the transport position by
actualing the control valve (ST).
The locking hooks engage automatically.
Attention !
- Check whether the locking hooks (10) are locked
into position correctly.
Manual raising (standard fitting withe the HIT 47)
- Hold the tubular handle
(9) with your hand and
during raising swivel

- Using the tractor's lifting gear, lower the implement far
enough so that it stands on the ground on both centre running
wheels.

Swivelling the outer rotors
- Hold the tubular handle in one hand and release the bolts
(position C) with the other.
- When swivelling do not release the tubular handle until the
bolts are locked again (position G).
Conversion from transport to workingposition
Safety Precaution!
Changing from working position to transport position is

- Turn the rotors outward.

- Release mechanical locks (10).
With hydraulic raising: move the control valve (ST) briefly to
the "raise" position simultaneously
pulling on the rope (S).
Doing this releases the mechanical
locks (10).

General guidelines for working with the machine
All work in the immediate area of the rotors may only be
carried out when the p.t.o. is switched off.
Caution!
Do not enter rotor area while driving motor is running.
- Choose the speed of travel so that all crops are picked up
thoroughly.
- In cases of overloading, shift down one gear.
Three-point slewing headstock "type N"
- Lift three point follower machine before going around sharp
bends and when reversing.
Beware!
Machine swings automatically back to central
position when lifted and is locked into position.
Take care that the swinging machine does
not endanger anybody and does not hit solid
obstacles. When lowering the machine the
locking devise is automatically lifted.
Tractor control device (ST)
- Put tractor control device (ST)
into "free gear" (floating position
or "lower").
In this way the rotors adapt to
uneven ground.
Operating on slopes
Take note! Machine with three-point slewing headstock
"type N"
If the implement is being raised by the lifting gear whilst
travelling in a curve, the implement swings automatically
into the central position. If working on slopes this can lead
to dangerous situations,
partly due to the balance
weight of the implement
(tipping, slipping, material
breakage etc.).
The function of the shock
absorbtion struts is to allow
the swinging procedure to
be executed slowly and continuously, not in jerks and jolts.

Shock absorbtion struts (D)
are recommended for work on
slopes as they increase travel
safety.
Adjustment
By turning the hexagonal nut
(SK) the initial tension of the
disk spring and, with that, the
pressure on the friction ele-
ments (R) on the rod can be altered.
Adjustment
- Adjust length of upper link (9) so that rotors are inclined for-
ward and spring tines lightly touch the ground (see chapter
"Adjustment of rotor inclination" also). Check upper link (9)
adjustment regularly during work operation.
Setting lower link
- Tractor's lower link (U) must be set so that there is no si-
deways play in order to prevent tedder from swinging back
and forth.

• Clearing field edges can normally (exceptions can be found
later in this manual) be carried out using only a three-point
slewing headstock and the swivelling runner wheels belonging
to it.
The machine runs slantwise behind the tractor according to
the direction of the runner wheels. This causes the forage
to be strewn into the field away from the edge.
Swinging of a single runner wheel
- Press up the adjusting
lever (7).
- Swing the wheels to the
right or to the left.
- Lock the adjusting lever
into the desired position.
Note
In this working position the swivel area (9) is used to its full extent.
When driving around bends away from the edge of the field or at the
end of the field, the machine must therefore be lifted.
Attention!
The machine swings back into the central position
(M).

General maintenance hints
In order to keep the implement in
good condition after long periods
of operation, please observe the
following points:
- Tighten all screws after the first
hours of operation.
In particular check:
- blade screws on the mowers
- tine screws on the swather and tedder.
Spare part
a. The original components and accessories have
been designed especially for these machines and
appliances.
b. We want to make it quite clear that components and
accesories that have not been supplied by us have not
been tested by us.
c. The installation and/or use of such products can,
therefore, negatively change or influence the
construction characteristics of the appliance. We are not
liable for damages caused by the use of components
and accessories that have not been supplied by us.
d. Alterations and the use of auxiliary parts that are
not permitted by the manufacturer render all liability
invalid.
Cleaning of machine parts
Attention! Do not use high-pressure washers for the
cleaning of bearing- and hydraulic parts.
- Danger of rust!
- After cleaning, grease the machine according to the
lubrication chart and carry out a short test run.
- Cleaning with too high pressure may do damage to
varnish.
Safety points
• Turn engine off when adjustment, service and repair
work is to be done.
Hydraulic unit
Caution! Danger of injury or infection!
Under high pressure, escaping fluids can penetrate the
skin. Therefore seek immediate medical help!
After the first 10 operating hours and then every
consecutive 50 operating hours
- Check the hydraulic unit and lines for tightness and
retighten screw connections if necessary.
Before operation
- Check hydraulic hoses for wear.
Replace worn or damaged hydraulic hoses immediately.
The replacement hoses must meet the manufacturer’s
technical requirements.
Hose lines are subject to natural ageing. The period of
use should not exceed 5 – 6 years.
Winter storage
- Thoroughly clean machine before storage.
- Put up protection against weather.
- Change or replenish gear oil.
- Protect exposed parts from rust.
- Lubricate all greasing points according to lubrication
chart.

valid.
In case there are no special instructions available, then
the notes in the accompanying drive shaft manufacturer´
instructions are valid.

After the first hours of operation

Tighten all screws.
In particular the tine connections (12 kpm), the tine bar
connections (9 kpm) and the slewing headstock connections
should be checked.

Always keep the stipulated air pressure in the tyres.
-
Grease the lubrication points in accordance with the regulation
(see lubrication schedule).
Grease the lubrication nipples with universal grease after
every 20 hours of operation.
- Before leaving the machine over winter, oil all the joints well
and grease all bearings.
Intake transmission
The intake transmission runs in oil which must be renewed or added
to after every year of operation:
- Pour gear lubricant oil into the intake transmission (see
enclosure on fuel regulation).
Changing tines
- Remove broken tine after loosening the hexagonal nut and
fit new tine.
- For correct fitting observe the direction of the rotors!
- Tighten hexagonal screw with 12 daNm (= 12 kpm).

All points refering to safety in this manual are indicated

maintained in proper condition. Punctual replacement of worn
and damaged covers is essential.
4.) Before starting work
a. Before commencing work, the operator must be aware of all
operating devices and functions. The learning of these is too
late after having already commenced operation!
b. The vehicle is to be tested for traffic and operating safety before
each operation.
5.) Asbestos
- Certain sub-supplied components of the
vehicle may contain asbestos due to technical
reasons. Observe the warning on spare
parts.
6.) Transport of persons prohibited
a. The transport of persons on the machine is not permitted.
b. The machine may only be driven on public roads when in the
position stipulated for road transport.
7.) Driving ability with auxiliary equipment
a. The towing vehicle is to be sufficiently equiped with weights at
the front or at the rear in order to guarantee the steering and
braking capacity (a minimum of 20% of the vehicle’s tare weight
on the front axle).
b. The driving ability is influenced by ground conditions and by the
auxiliary equipment. The driving must be adapted to the cor-
responding terrain and
ground conditions.
c. When driving through
curves with a connected
appliance, observe the
radius and swinging
mass of the appliance.
d. When travelling in a curve
with attached or semi-
mounted implements,
take into account the
working range and swing
mass of the implement!
8.) General
a. Before attaching implement to three-point linkage, move system
lever into a position whereby unintentional raising or lowering is
ruled out!
b. Danger of injury exists when coupling implement to tractor!
c. Danger of injury through crushing and cutting exists in the three-
point linkage area!
d. Do not stand between tractor and implement when using three-
point linkage external operation!
e. Attach and detach drive shaft only when motor has stopped.
f. When transporting with raised implement, secure operating lever
against lowering!
g. Before leaving tractor, lower attached implement to the ground
and remove ignition key!
h. Nobody is to stand between tractor and implement without tractor
being secured against rolling using parking brake and/or wheel
chocks!
i. For all maintenance, service and modification work, turn driving
motor off and remove universal drive.
9.) Cleaning the machine
Do not use high-pressure washers for the cleaning of bearing- and
hydraulic parts.
