Attaching the speaker pads
Before connecting the center speaker and rear
speakers, stick the supplied speaker pads to the
bottom of the center speaker and rear speakers to
stabilize the speakers and prevent them from
slipping.
Positioning the speakers
We recommend to place the system as follows:
When placing the speakers on top of the sub
woofer and the main unit, be sure to place the
foot of the speakers to fit in the hollows on top
of the sub woofer and the main unit.
Notes
Keep the speaker cords away from the antennas to
prevent noise.
Do not place the rear speakers on top of a TV. This
may cause color distortion in the TV screen.
Be sure to connect both rear left and right speakers.
Otherwise, the sound will not be heard.

Note
No sound is output from the rear speakers when
the connection setting is set to “R. C. WIRED”
(page 20).
Notes
Do not install the IR receiver in a place exposed to
direct sunlight or strong light such as an incandescent
lamp.
Do not use the IR transmitter or IR receiver that is not
supplied with the system.
Make sure you set “R. C. WIRELESS” when using
wireless setting or “R. C. WIRED” when using wired

is output from the rear speakers. For details, see
“Specifying distance, position, height and
connection method of the speakers” (page 20).
Setting the wireless speaker
system
After connecting the speakers, rear amplifier, IR
transmitter, IR receiver and the AC power cords,
adjust the wireless system for good
transmission.
1 Press ?/1 on the system and POWER
on the rear amplifier.
The system and rear amplifier turn on and
the ON/STANDBY indicator on the rear
amplifier lights up in red.
2 Place the IR transmitter and IR receiver

IR receiver until the ON/STANDBY and
ON LINE indicators on the rear amplifier
turn green.
Notes
Make sure that there is no obstruction such as a
person or object between the IR transmitter and IR
receiver. Otherwise, the sound from the rear speakers
may be interrupted.
If the ON LINE indicator on the rear amplifier lights
up in red, the transmission is incompleted. Adjust the
position of the IR transmitter and IR receiver until
the ON/STANDBY and ON LINE indicators on the
rear amplifier light up in green.
If the ON/STANDBY indicator on the rear amplifier
flashes in red, it means that the IR receiver is
receiving signals from a different Sony infrared
system. In this case, turn off the other system or
move the IR receiver so that the ON/STANDBY
indicator on the rear amplifier lights up in green.
The LED of the IR transmitter does not turn off while
the system is on. This is not a malfunction. To turn
off the LED of the IR transmitter, set the system to

Notes
Before connecting the center speaker and rear
speakers, make sure you attach the speaker pads to
the bottom of the respective speakers (page 10).
When you use the speakers in wired setting, make
sure to set “R. C. WIRED” in AMP MENU. No
sound is output from the rear speakers when set to
“R. C. WIRELESS” (factory setting). For details, see
“Specifying distance, position, height and
connection method of the speakers” (page 20).
Positioning the speakers
For the best possible surround sound, all the
speakers other than the sub woofer should be the
same distance from the listening position (A ).
However, if necessary, this system allows you to
place the center speaker up to 1.5 meters closer
(B) and the rear speakers up to 4.5 meters closer
(C) to the listening position.
The front speakers can be placed from 1.0 to
12.0 meters (A) from the listening position.
You can place the sub woofer in any position.
You can place the rear speakers either behind
you or to the side, depending on the shape of
your room, etc.
Note
Do not place the center and rear speakers farther away
from the listening position than the front speakers.
