Welcome Magician!
I'm the great and famous HABAMUS and I would like to wel-
come you to our magical community.
This magic top-hat has endowed you with great responsibi-
lity; with a little practice and diligence you will be able to
enchant people. You will astonish them and lead them to
believe in your magic powers.
But don't tell anybody how the trick works, so that you keep
the secrets of our magical community and can enchant
people over and over again.
Best wishes for lots of fun performing magic! Yours truly,
Habamus
The magic trick
1. Before starting the performance, place both rings and
the little hat next to each other on the magic cloth
(picture 1).Then the audience may enter the room!
2. Borrow a small coin from somebody in the audience and
put it next to the three objects on the cloth (picture 2).
3. Explain that you will make the coin disappear and
reappear thanks to your magic powers.
4. Lift the little hat, making it clear that it is the magic hat
of a powerful magician. Then place the hat down on the
felt-covered ring (picture 3).
15
Imagine …
The curtain rises.
You tell the curious audience that you will make a coin dis-
appear and reappear.
You want to know how the trick is done!
Habamus, the magician, tells you on the following pages!

ring. Now ask the audience to verify for themselves that
the coin has disappeared (picture 6).
8. In order to make the coin appear again, you first pile up
the hat and then the empty ring on the felt-covered ring
(picture 7).
9. Make a new spell: “The vanished coin only responds to
me. Simsalabim, it is here as you can see!”
10. Take all items together off the coin and place them on
the magic cloth: the coin has reappeared (picture 8).
16 17
5. Show the other wooden ring to the audience and stick it
on your finger. Explain that it is a magic ring. Then stick
the ring into the hat (picture 4).
6. Lift the piled items by grabbing the lower ring and pla-
cing it on top of the coin. Make sure the audience
doesn't see the felt of the lower ring (picture 5).
Say your magic spell: Abracadabra, not a rustle from
the audience! As the coin here will vanish and not just
by coincidence!”
7. Take the simple wooden ring off the hat, and then the
magic hat from the pile. Place both items next to the other
5. Place the coin into the felt-covered ring. It now lies on
top of the felt.
6. Place the magic hat on this ring. Then you stick the other
ring on the hat.
7. Lift all piled items by the lower ring and place it on the
magic cloth: the pound has changed into a penny (the
dime has become a cent).
Hints:
Practice the trick a couple of times before performing it.
You should be able to do the trick fluidly.
19
How you convert a pound into a penny (or a
dime into a cent).
If you have practiced the previously described trick well, you
can try the following variation:
1. Before the performance starts, place the felt cloth on the
table. Put the little magic hat and both rings on it.
2. Hide a penny (cent coin) underneath the felt-covered
ring.
3. The audience may now enter the room.
4. Explain that you will transform a coin and ask somebody
for a pound (a dime).
18
21
Have a coin ready in case nobody from the audience has
one.
Make sure nobody touches your magic tools.
If after the performance you quickly wrap both rings into
the cloth and place them into the top-hat, nobody will
notice that a piece of felt is glued onto one of the rings.
From time to time you should iron the felt cloth as it has
to be flat so that nobody notices that one of the rings is
covered with felt.
