fromjointsorconnectionsthatarenotsealedproperly.
LPGbecomesammablewhenitismixedwithair.

providedonlyasaguide.ConsulttheNFPA58:
LiqueedPetroleumGasCodeforadditionalsafety
information.ThisNationalFireProtectionAssociation
(NFPA)codepertainstothehandling,storing,
transporting,andusageofLPG.
Evaluatetheterraintodeterminewhataccessories
andattachmentsareneededtoproperlyand
safelyperformthejob.Onlyuseaccessoriesand
attachmentsapprovedbyToro.
Inspecttheareawheretheequipmentistobe
usedandremoveallrocks,toys,sticks,wires,
bones,andotherforeignobjects.Thesecan
bethrownorinterferewiththeoperationofthe
machineandmaycausepersonalinjurytothe
operatororbystanders.
Wearappropriatepersonalprotectiveequipment
suchassafetyglasses,substantialslip-resistant
footwear,andhearingprotection.Tiebacklong
hairandavoidlooseclothingandloosejewelry
whichmaygettangledinmovingparts.
CAUTION
Thismachineproducessoundlevelsin
excessof85dBAattheoperatorsearand
cancausehearinglossthroughextended
periodsofexposure.
Wearhearingprotectionwhenoperating
thismachine.
Checkthattheoperatorpresencecontrols,
safetyswitches,andshieldsareattachedand
functioningproperly.DoNotoperateunlessthey
arefunctioningproperly.
DoNotoperatethemowerwhenpeople,especially
children,orpetsareinthearea.Stopthemachine
andattachment(s)ifanyoneentersthearea.
DoNotoperatethemachinewithouttheentire
grasscollectionsystem,dischargedeector,
orothersafetydevicesinplaceandinproper
workingcondition.Grasscatchercomponents
aresubjecttowear,damageanddeterioration,
whichcouldexposemovingpartsorallowobjects
tobethrown.Frequentlycheckforwornor
deterioratingcomponentsandreplacethemwith
themanufacturer’srecommendedpartswhen
necessary.
Pre-Start
LPGtankssuppliedfromToroDoNotcontainLPG
fuelforshippingreasonsandsafety.HavetheLPG
tankslledbytrainedandqualiedpersonnel.For
bestresults,useclean,freshHD5gradepropane.
DoNotallowtheLPGtankstobeoverlled.Overlling
LPGtanksbuildsexcesspressurewithinthetank
whichcausesthereliefvalvetoopen.
Makesureyouunderstandthecontrols,theirlocations,
theirfunctions,andtheirsafetyrequirements.
RefertotheMaintenancesectionandperformallthe
necessaryinspectionandmaintenancesteps.

allLPGvaporsfromthesystem,byclosing
thefuelvalve(s)onALLtanksandallowing
theenginetorununtilitstops.
Storethetank(s)awayfromheat,sparks,

condition.

Incaseofretakethefollowingsteps:
1.Ifyoucansafelydoso,stoptheow
ofgasasquicklyaspossible.Never
putoutameunlessgascanbeshut
off.
2.NotifytheFireDepartmentandclear
immediateareaofallpeople.
3.Whengasowisstopped,putout
there.Usuallywhenowofgasis
cutoff,rewillautomaticallystop.
4.Ifgasowcannotbeimmediately
stopped,directwaterontankstokeep
themcool,butDoNotputoutre.

portablereextinguisherhavinga
minimumcapacityof18lb(8.2kg)dry

freezesskinoncontact.
Important:Onlyhandtightentankconnection
tting.Overtighteningbytheuseoftoolsmay
causedamage.Ifhandtighteningdoesnotstop
aleak,contacttrainedandqualiedpersonnel
immediately.
Beforeeachuse:
Visuallyinspectthetank,hose,andttingand
bealerttoafoulodorcomingfromthetank.
TheLPGtankshouldbefreeofdentsor
damage.Ifthetankshowsignsofdentsor
damage,replaceitimmediately.
Checkthevalveandttingopeningsfordirt
anddebris.
Slowlyopenthevalveallthewayandlisten
foracontinuoushissfromtheregulator,itmay
indicatealeak.
LPGhasarotteneggorskunksmelladded
toittohelpdetectagasleak.Ifyoudetecta
gasleak:
TurnofftheLPGvalveifyoucansafelydo
so.
Leavethearea.
Contacttrainedandqualiedpersonnel
immediately.
DoNotuseifthehosesareabraded,damaged,
kinked,orattened.
Makesurethetankissecurelymountedtothe
mower.Ifthetankisloose,thehoseorttings
mayleak.
Witheachtankchange:
Checkallgauges,ttings,andvalvesfor
damage.
Lookfordeterioration,damagedormissing
o-ringsontankconnectiontting.
InspecttheLPGtankandthefuelconnection
jointforleaks.Usethefollowingprocedure
belowtodetectleaks:
Applyanapprovedleakdetectorsolution,
obtainedfromatrainedandqualiedLPG
distributor,orathicknon-ammoniasoapy
watersolution(50%non-ammoniasoap
and50%water).(Aleakdetectorsolution
thatcontainsammoniawillcausethe
ttingstocorrodeandleak.)
Usingasmallbrushorspraybottle,apply
thesolutionaroundallthettingsofthe
LPGtankandthefuelconnectionjoint.
Slowlyopenthegasvalveahalf-turn.
Ifbubblesaredetected,thejointortting
hasaleak.Shutoffthevalve,tightenthe
leakingconnection,andslowlyopenthe
valveagain.Ifbubblesstillappear,DoNot
usethetank.Ifitissafetodoso,remove
thetankfromyourmower;otherwise,
contacttrainedandqualiedpersonnel
immediately.
Ifnobubblesaredetected,theLPGtank
maybeused.
Weekly:
ChecktheentireLPGfueldeliverysystemfor
damageordeterioration.
ChecktheentireLPGfueldeliverysystemfor
leaksatalljointsusingthesamemethodas
describedintheprevioussection.
Followalltheinspectionchecksasspeciedin
thetwopreviousinspectionsections.
TankRequalication:
USDOT(UnitedStatesDepartmentof
Transportation)regulationsrequireLPGtanks
tobeinspected,requalied,andmarkedwithin
12yearsofthemanufacturedateandona
regularbasisthereafter.Typicallythisoccurs
whenthetankisrelled;contactatrainedand
qualiedLPGtankproviderformoredetails.
DoNotlltheLPGtankifitisbeyondthe
requalicationperiod.
