causedamage.Ifhandtighteningdoesnotstop
aleak,contacttrainedandqualiî‚¿edpersonnel
immediately.
•Beforeeachuse:
–Visuallyinspectthetank,hose,andttingand
bealerttoafoulodorcomingfromthetank.
–TheLPGtankshouldbefreeofdentsor
damage.Ifthetankshowsignsofdentsor
damage,replaceitimmediately.
–Checkthevalveandttingopeningsfordirt
anddebris.
–Slowlyopenthevalveallthewayandlisten
foracontinuoushissfromtheregulator,itmay
indicatealeak.
–LPGhasarotteneggorskunksmelladded
toittohelpdetectagasleak.Ifyoudetecta
gasleak:
â—ŠTurnofftheLPGvalveifyoucansafelydo
so.
â—ŠLeavethearea.
â—ŠContacttrainedandqualiî‚¿edpersonnel
immediately.
–DoNotuseifthehosesareabraded,damaged,
kinked,orattened.
–Makesurethetankissecurelymountedtothe
mower.Ifthetankisloose,thehoseorî‚¿ttings
mayleak.
•Witheachtankchange:
–Checkallgauges,ttings,andvalvesfor
damage.
–Lookfordeterioration,damagedormissing
o-ringsontankconnectionî‚¿tting.
–InspecttheLPGtankandthefuelconnection
jointforleaks.Usethefollowingprocedure
belowtodetectleaks:
â—ŠApplyanapprovedleakdetectorsolution,
obtainedfromatrainedandqualiî‚¿edLPG
distributor,orathicknon-ammoniasoapy
watersolution(50%non-ammoniasoap
and50%water).(Aleakdetectorsolution
thatcontainsammoniawillcausethe
î‚¿ttingstocorrodeandleak.)
â—ŠUsingasmallbrushorspraybottle,apply
thesolutionaroundalltheî‚¿ttingsofthe
LPGtankandthefuelconnectionjoint.
â—ŠSlowlyopenthegasvalveahalf-turn.
â—ŠIfbubblesaredetected,thejointorî‚¿tting
hasaleak.Shutoffthevalve,tightenthe
leakingconnection,andslowlyopenthe
valveagain.Ifbubblesstillappear,DoNot
usethetank.Ifitissafetodoso,remove
thetankfromyourmower;otherwise,
contacttrainedandqualiî‚¿edpersonnel
immediately.
â—ŠIfnobubblesaredetected,theLPGtank
maybeused.
•Weekly:
–ChecktheentireLPGfueldeliverysystemfor
damageordeterioration.
–ChecktheentireLPGfueldeliverysystemfor
leaksatalljointsusingthesamemethodas
describedintheprevioussection.
–Followalltheinspectionchecksasspeciedin
thetwopreviousinspectionsections.
•TankRequalication:
–USDOT(UnitedStatesDepartmentof
Transportation)regulationsrequireLPGtanks
tobeinspected,requaliî‚¿ed,andmarkedwithin
12yearsofthemanufacturedateandona
regularbasisthereafter.Typicallythisoccurs
whenthetankisreî‚¿lled;contactatrainedand
qualiî‚¿edLPGtankproviderformoredetails.
–DoNotlltheLPGtankifitisbeyondthe
requaliî‚¿cationperiod.
–DoNotlldamagedorrustedLPGtanks.
