GB
6 Ferm
Wear eye and ear protection.
Do not dispose of in household waste.
Specific safety instructions:
The tool is suitable for use as a screwdriver,
regular drill and impact drill. Any other application
is specifically excluded.
Use only impact drill bits and accessories that •
are designed for use with an impact drill when
using this machine in the impact drill mode.
Standard drill bits are NOT designed for use in
an impact drill and must NOT be used with an
impact drill. They may shatter and possibly
cause serious injury.
Do not drill material too small to be securely •
held.
Always keep hands out of the path of the drill •
bit. Avoid awkward hand positions where a
sudden slip could cause your hand to move
into the path of the drill bit.
Secure work piece. Use clamps or a vice to •
hold the work piece. It is safer than using your
hand and it frees both hands to operate the
tool.
Make sure there are no nails or foreign objects •
in the part of the work piece to be drilled.
To avoid injury from accidental starting, always •
remove the battery from the tool before
installing or removing a drill bit.
Do not install or use any drill bit that exceeds •
175 mm (7”) in lengths or extends more than
150 mm (6”) beyond the chuck jaws. They can
bend or break suddenly.
Before starting the operation, jog the switch •
shortly to make sure the drill bit does not
wobble or vibrate.
Do not use fly cutters or multiple-part hole •
cutters, as they can come apart or become
unbalanced during use.
Make sure the spindle has come to a complete •
stop before touching the chuck or attempting
to change the drill bit.
Always make sure the chuck is tight and the •
drill bit firmly tightened in the chuck before
starting the drill.
When drilling into smooth, hard surfaces such •
as metal, use a centre punch to mark the desi-
red hole location. This will prevent the drill bit
from slipping off centre as the hole is started.
Use a masonry bit with the drill in impact mode •
ONLY when drilling in concrete or masonry.
Always use carbide tipped masonry bits when •
drilling in concrete or masonry
This appliance is not intended for use by •
persons (including children) with reduced
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of
experience and knowledge, unless they have
been given supervision or instructions
concerning use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that •
they do not play with the appliance.
Follow all safety rules and warnings,
also those which are included with the
battery pack and charger used with this
tool. Failure to do so may result in
serious injury or damage to the charger
and the battery pack
3. MOUNTING ACCESSORIES
Prior to mounting an accessory always
remove the battery.
Installing the auxiliary handle
Fig. 2 + 3
Install the auxiliary handle for two handed
operation of the drill. This is particularly important
for impact drilling in concrete. The auxiliary handle
can be installed on either the left or right side of
the combi drill.
Insert the threaded mounting screw through •
the depth stop rod clamp (14) and into the
threaded hole in the housing.
Turn the auxiliary handle (11) clockwise to •
tighten it into the housing.
Make sure the key on the depth stop
clamp is aligned with the notch in the
drill housing. This will prevent it from
unexpected turning and the auxiliary
handle from coming loose.
Screwdriver bits and drill bits can be stored in the
auxiliary handle.
To remove the end cap (15), pull it of the auxiliary
handle. To install, push it back on the auxiliary
handle.

Ferm
Installing the depth stop rod
Fig. 1 + 2
The depth stop rod (13) is used as a gauge to
control the depth of the drilled hole. It can be used
with the combi drill in either the normal drilling
mode or the impact drill mode.
Turn the auxiliary handle (11) counter •
clockwise about three turns to open the depth
stop rod mounting clamp (14).
Insert the depth rod into the matching hole in •
the depth stop rod mounting clamp.
Position the depth stop rod so it will contact •
the work piece when the drill reaches the
appropriate depth.
When the depth stop rod is properly •
positioned, tighten the depth stop rod
mounting clamp by turning the auxiliary handle
clockwise.
Tighten the handle by hand only. Do not
over tighten the handle or you will
damage the handle or the housing.
Installing drill bits
Fig. 4
Never hold the chuck and use the drill
power to loosen or tighten bits. This can
result in serious injury.
To open the keyless drill chuck, rotate the •
chuck body (1) in a clockwise direction until
the jaws (16) open wide enough to accept the
bit. (17)
Insert the bit, over the full length of the jaws, •
into the chuck.
Tighten the chuck jaws onto the bit by turning •
the chuck body in a counter clockwise
direction.
As the chuck jaws begin to tighten on the bit, •
you will hear a clicking sound. Continue to
rotate the chuck body until the clicking stops
and you can no longer turn it any further by
hand. The chuck is now locked.
The bit must be properly inserted with all
three of the chuck jaws holding the bit
centred in the chuck. Make sure the
chuck jaws grasp the flat sides of a
screwdriver bit. Failure to do so could
cause the bit to be thrown from the
chuck, resulting in possible serious
injury or damage to the chuck.
To remove a bit, open the keyless drill chuck by •
rotating the chuck body in a clockwise direc tion
until the chuck jaws open and remove the bit.
Connecting and removing the battery
Fig. 1 + 5
Ensure that the direction reversing switch (8) •
is in the central position in order to prevent the
appliance from being switched on
unexpectedly.
Insert the battery into the base of the •
appliance, as shown on the illustration. Push
the battery until it latches in.
Press the locking button (10) on either side •
before removing the battery, and disengage
the battery from the base of the appliance.
Only use batteries of the following type. Using any
other batteries could cause serious injury or
damage the tool.
CDA1051: FPB-1800L, 18V Lithium-Ion
CDA1053: FPB-1800N, 18V NiMH
The following charger can be used to charge these
batteries.
CDA1052: FPL-1800 (Lithium-Ion and NiMH)
CDA1054: FPL-1800N (NiMH only)
4. OPERATION
Always follow the safety notes and the
relevant safety code.
Hold the appliance firmly and press the drill
steadily onto the workpiece. Do not overload the
appliance. Only use drills with no visible wear.
Worn drills will have a bad effect on the functio-
ning of the appliance. Do not cover the air vents.
This will reduce the motor cooling, and possibly
lead to overheating the motor.
Adjusting the torque
Fig. 6 + 7
Rotate the adjustment ring (2) to align the correct
torque setting number with the torque indicator
arrow (18). Use the chart below for the correct
torque setting:

Depress the on/off switch (9). It regulates the •
speed of the appliance by transmitting power
to the switch.
Release the on/off switch (9) to halt the drill •
chuck immediately, it will no longer run on.
Move the direction reversing switch (8) to the •
centre in order to lock the appliance in its
disabled state.
The drill will turn at its slowest speed when the
switch is depressed lightly. The drill will turn at its
fastest speed when the trigger is fully depressed.
Only lay down the appliance when it has stopped
running completely. Do not place it on a dusty
surface as particles of dust could get into the
mechanism.
