BCM50 5.0 – Standard BCM50 5.0 programmed as
BCM50a (with ADSL router)
Revision History
Date Revision # Summary of Changes
22 November 2010 Issue 2 Expected Solution – “Shipments”
Problem Description
Avaya has discovered that a number of BCM50 Rls. 5.0 units (NT9T6505E5) were programmed incorrectly in the manufacturing
process. As a result these units will display in the Element Manager that they are a “BCM50a”, i.e. a BCM50 with build-in ADSL router.
Since these units do not have a build-in ADSL router, the BCM50 system will raise alarm messages that the ADSL router card is
missing.
The alarm issue is aggravated after installing one of the Smart Update to the BCM50 system. When the BCM50 Rls. 5.0 is at the GA
load, the alarm will be raised a couple times after the boot process but will then stop. After applying any of the BCM50 Rls. 5.0 Smart
Update patches to the system, the alarm will be raised continuously about every minute.
In addition, the DHCP default settings are different for BCM50a systems, which mean that the on-board BCM50 DHCP server is
disabled by default since the BCM50 expects the ADSL router DHCP server to be active.
Avaya recommends deactivating the logging of the alarms 11409 and 11015 in the Alarm Settings panel of the Element Manager. This
will prevent the alarm being raised in Element Manager (emails, SNMP strings, etc.). The continuous logging of router alarms might
cause the alarms logs to be filled quickly and make it difficult to identify any other eventual issues with the affected BCM50 system.
Disabling the alarms does not change the function of the status LED, which will still turn red.
Besides the false alarms and DHCP setting, this issue does not have any functional or performance impact on the BCM50 units.
Expected Scope
