Troubleshooting
If your shade is not operating correctly, refer to the following troubleshooting procedures for
specific solutions for your shade.
If questions remain, please contact Hunter Douglas Consumer Support at (800) 789-0331.
Problem
The shades raises or lowers unevenly.
Solution Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Shim the brackets,
if necessary.
Roll up the shade until the bottom rail is fully raised.
Reinstall the shade.
Problem
The universal cord tensioner has climbed to the top of the shade.
Solution Pull down on the spring to relieve tension and pull the universal cord tensioner
to the bottom of the cord loop. Properly mount the cord tensioner. See
Universal Cord Tensioner Installation Instructions in the kit included with your
shade.
Problem
The universal cord tensioner grabs onto the cord upon operation.
Solution Check that the universal cord tensioner is mounted properly. Reinstall, if
necessary. See the Universal Cord Tensioner Installation Instructions that
came with your Cord TensionerKit.
Problem
The shade does not operate.
Solution Check that the shade is installed so the bead chain hangs straight down from
the clutch.
TROUBLESHOOTING
16
Problem
Shade hangs too low at the top.
Solution Cassette
Move the stop ball down the front of the chain to allow the shade to move
further up.
Standard/Designer Metal Bracket
Remove the shade from the brackets. See “Remove the Shade (If Necessary)”
on page 19.
Lay the shade on a clean surface; then roll the shade up completely.
Install the shade. See “Install the Shade— Standard/Designer Metal
Brackets” on page 6.
Problem
The shade is slightly long or short.
Solution Raise the shade completely (until the bead chain connector touches the back
of the clutch).
IMPORTANT: If your shade has Kickback, the below limit adjustment
options are not applicable. Adjusting the limits will alter the degree of
Kickback.
For a shorter drop, move the bead stop two to four beadsup.
For a longer drop, move the bead stop two to four beadsdown.
IMPORTANT: Maximum adjustment is 1
3
4
", or eight to nine beads.
Problem
The light gap is not even.
Solution If the light gap is larger on idle side, move the clutch-side bracket in by half
the distance to make it even.

TROUBLESHOOTING
17
Problem
The chain wheel orientation needs to be changed.
Solution Change the Chain Guide Orientation
Remove the screw
and washer from the
bracket. Be sure to keep
the nut in place. A spare
screw has been provided
if needed.
Remove the chain wheel by pulling it up from the base of the bracket.
Turn the chain wheel to the new orientation and press back onto the base.
Install the washer and the screw.
Replace the bracket cover.
Problem
The shade will not fit into the installation brackets.
Solution Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Adjust and/or shim
to level if necessary.
NOTE: If you have a cassette: Check that the headrail is completely
inserted into the installation brackers. See “Install the Shade — Cassette” on

TROUBLESHOOTING
18
Problem
The shade is hard to raise or lower, or will not raise or lower.
Solution Shades cannot be forced into tight inside mount window openings. If the
shade is an inside mount shade, make sure there is clearance between the
ends of the shade and the window casement.
Check that the installation brackets are level. Shim to level, if necessary.
Problem Cells do not align on side-by-side shades.
Solution NOTE: Cell alignment is only guaranteed within
1
8
" when shades are ordered
at the same time, at the same height, with the same color and fabric, and
when specified on the order form.
Check that the windows are square and the same height.
