3-in-1: Convert from mulching to bagging to side-discharge:

Unpack the mower

• Cutallfourcornersoftheboxfromtoptobottom.

• Removeallpackingmaterialsfromthemower.

• Locateandidentifytheitemsincludedwiththemower.

Read the manuals

• Carefullyreadallthemanualssuppliedwiththemower.

 Theycontainimportantsafety,operating,and 

 maintenanceinformation.

Unfold the handle

• Removetheknob,lockwasher,andbolt(A,Figure1) 

 fromeachsideofthehandlebase.

• Loosen,butdonotremove,theknobs(B)onthe 

 upperhandle.

• Raisethehandletotheoperatingposition,and 

 tightentheupperknobs.

• Reinsertthelowerhandleboltsthroughthehandlebase

 andhandle(C,mostuserspreferthemiddleposition).

 Installthelockwashersandfullytightentheknobs.

Set up the recoil rope handle

• Holdthebailcontrolagainstthehandle(A,Figure2).

• Pulltherecoilropehandleouttotheropeguide(B)

 onthehandle.Hooktherecoilropeintotherope

 guide(itmightbeatightfit).

Add oil and fuel

• Movethemoweroutsidetoaflat,levelsurface.

• Removetheoilfillcap(A,Figure3).Usingthebottleofoilsuppliedinthe

 carton,filltheenginewiththeproperamountofoil.(Checkthedipstick

 ontheoilfillcap.)Replacetheoilfillcap.

IMPORTANT Mower is shipped without oil in engine.

Failure to add oil will result in engine damage.

• Removethefuelfillcap(B).Followingthethree-stepinstructionsonthe 

 FreshStart™card,snapthefuelpreservercartridgeintothebottomof 

 thefuelfillcap.

• Addclean,fresh,UNLEADEDfuelwithaminimumof87octane,leaving

 oneinchofspacefromthetopofthetankforfuelexpansion.NOTE:Fuel 

 blendscontainingmorethan10%ethanolarenotrecommended.

IMPORTANT Fuel tank holds less than 1/2 gallon.

IMPORTANT DO NOT mix oil with fuel.

IMPORTANT DO NOT use E85 fuel.

• Replacethefuelfillcap,andwipeupanyspills.

Start the mower

• Adjustallfourwheels(A,Figure4)tothedesiredcuttingheight.

• Setfrontcasterstostraight(B)orswivel(C).

• Setthemowertomulch,bag,ordischarge.(See3-in-1instructionsbelow.)

• Holdthebailcontrol(A,Figure5)againstthedrivehandle.

• Pulltherecoilropehandle(B)untiltheenginestarts.

• Toengagethedrivesystem,slowlysqueezethewheeldrivecontrollever 

 (C)backtowardthehandle.Squeezingtheleverfurtherbackincreases 

 groundspeed.

• Tostoptheengineandblade,releasethebailcontrol.

Fuel stabilizer is a hazardous chemical.

IF SWALLOWED, call a physician immediately.

Fuel stabilizer contains:

2,6-di-tert-butylphenol (128-39-2) and

aliphatic petroleum distillate (64742-47-8).

 wheelonthegrassbagadapter(Figure8).

• Slidethefrontofthegrassbagontothe

 grassbagadapter(Figure9).

• Hooktherearofthegrassbagontothe

 middlebarofthehandle(Figure10).

3 To convert to side discharge:

• Removetheknobsandwasherssecuring

 thesidedischargecoverinplace,and

 removethecover.

• Installthesidedischargedeflector,usingthe

 samehardwarethatsecuredtheside

 dischargecover(Figure11).
