.DESCRIPTION AND USES .
Woodlife
®
CreoCoat
®
Black Wood Preservative is a multi-
purpose water-based exterior wood preservative and
insecticide pre-treatment for below ground, ground
contact, fresh water contact or above ground applications
where either pressure-treated or non-pressure-treated
wood has been used. When applied as directed, Woodlife
CreoCoat prevents attack from termites and other wood
boring insects and decay fungi, including mildew, mold, rot
and decay organisms. It also controls warping, swelling
and end checking due to its anti-wicking property, which
resists moisture absorption and movement from end to
end. This preservative will impart a color to wood that will
fade over time, but if desired, can be topcoated with paint
or stain.
Use on all species of untreated or pressure-treated lumber
and plywood. It is suitable for landscape timbers, railroad
ties, fence posts, poles, pickets and rails, construction
posts, foundation sills, siding, shakes, roofs, windows,
window frames, doors or other non-pressure treated
exterior wood exposed to moisture, weather or wood
boring insects.
This product is not designed for use on decks,
outdoor furniture or other wood structures intended
for seating or heavy foot traffic. Wood treated with
this preservative should not be used where it may
come in contact with food, feed, or potable water.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Prevents attack from termites, powder post beetles and
other wood boring insects
Protects against rot and decay by inhibiting mold,
mildew, and staining fungus growth on the wood
surface
Controls moisture damage, including swelling,
shrinking, warping, splitting and end-cracking
Water-based formula allows for fast, easy clean up
with soap and water.
Imparts a long-lasting Creosote-like black color to
wood

.PRODUCT APPLICATION .
SURFACE PREPARATION
Wood surfaces must be dry and free of dust, dirt, debris
and standing water. This product will adhere to dry or
damp (not soaking wet) surfaces. Proper surface
preparation is required to ensure adequate penetration,
adhesion, and optimum performance.
New Wood Check for the presence of surface barriers
such as paraffin wax (pressure-treated wood) or mill glaze
found on Cedar and Redwood by performing a Splash
Test (see Splash Test below). If a barrier is detected, use
Wolman
®
Deck & Fence Brightener, then conduct splash
test again to confirm penetrability before applying this
product.
Splash Test - Sprinkle a few drops of water on several
areas of the surface to be coated. If the water is absorbed
rapidly, the surface is ready to be finished with Woodlife
Classic. If the water beads are not absorbed into the
wood, a surface barrier exists and must be removed.
Apply or Wolman
®
Deck & Fence Brightener and then test
again.
Weathered Wood - For all outdoor wood structures the
surface must be dry and free of any colored paints, stains,
varnishes, clear finishes, as well as ground-in-dirt, grayed
surface fibers and tannin, algae or mildew stains. Use
Wolman DeckStrip
®
or Wolman
®
Deck & Fence Brightener
to remove old finishes and surface contaminants, then
conduct the splash test before applying this product.
IMPORTANT! Preparing surfaces with products containing
chlorine bleach (sodium hypochlorite) alone is NOT
recommended. These products can leave dirt deposits
and degraded wood fibers on the surface, which interfere
with the penetration, adhesion and coloration of protective
coatings.

.PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.) .
APPLICATION
Before You Start To minimize clean-up afterward, cover
surrounding landscape and exposed brick, glass,
aluminum, and vinyl siding with cardboard, plastic or cloth
tarps. Protect plants, shrubs and vegetation from
overspray. Important: This product imparts a black
color to wood. Perform a sample brush-out in an
inconspicuous area to confirm color satisfaction. If the
surface is in direct sunlight and hot to the touch, dampen
with fresh water to cool.
Use in an area with adequate ventilation at all times. Apply
only when air (ambient) temperature is between 50-90°F
(10-32°C) and relative humidity is below 85% and when no
precipitation is expected within 24 hours. Use full strength.
Do not thin. Mix thoroughly before and during use. Apply
by dip treatment, brush, roller, or pump sprayer.
Below Ground, Ground or Fresh Water Contact
Seasoned (weathered) or green (new) wood may be
treated. Make sure the wood is free of bark, then immerse
in Woodlife CreoCoat for 12 to 48 hours or until the
sapwood is completely penetrated. If dipping is not
possible, two brush coats, roller or spray applications
should be applied. Allow at least one (1) hour between
applications. Make certain all areas are fully treated to get
the maximum benefits. Allow wood to dry for 24 hours
before installation.
Above Ground Contact Best results will be obtained is
wood to be treated is immersed for 3 minutes or longer. If
dipping is not possible, two brush coats, roller or spray
application should be applied. Allow at least one (1) hour
between applications. Make certain all areas are fully
treated to get the maximum benefits. Allow wood to dry for
24 hours or longer after application of the preservative
prior to installation, painting and/or staining.
COVERAGE
One gallon will cover approximately 150-250 square feet,
depending on wood age and species, surface porosity and
method of application. Rough, weathered or highly porous
surfaces will absorb more.
CLEAN-UP
Clean tools and equipment immediately after use with
warm soapy water. If product has dried, mineral spirits
should be used to clean tools and equipment. Clean up
overspray, drips and splashes from surrounding surfaces
with fresh water as soon as possible. Dried spatters or
spills can be removed with mineral spirits or lacquer
thinner.
