Correct Handling of Batteries

Install the batteries correctly by following the polarity (+ and -) indications in the battery compartment.

Do not dispose of the used batteries as domestic waste. Dispose of them in accordance with the

local regulations.

Small button cell batteries such as used in the remote handset for this unit are easily swallowed

by young children and this can be dangerous. Keep loose button cells away from young children

and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the remote control. Seek medical advice if

you believe a cell has been swallowed.

Installation of Battery

Caution: Be careful when you press the slot of the battery compartment with your fingernails

only as this might break them.

1. Press the slot on the battery compartment.

2. Pull out the battery compartment.

3. Replace a new battery (size 2025) correctly and fully insert

the battery compartment back to the original position.

* Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be

disposed of properly.

Handling the Remote Control

• Improper use could cause corrosion or battery leakage and may result in physical injury and/

or property damage including fire.

• Never mix used and new batteries in the device.

• Replace all the batteries in a device at the same time.

• Remove the batteries if the remote control is not going to be used for an extended period of

time.

• To avoid possible failure, read the following instructions and handle the remote control

property.

• Do not drop or cause impact to the remote control.

• Do not spill water or any liquid on the remote control.

• Do not place the remote control on a wet object.

• Do not place the remote control under the direct sunlight or near sources of excessive heat.

• Do not use caustic cleaners ( porcelain, stainless steel, toilet, or oven cleaner etc. ) on the

remote, as it may suffer damage.

Note:

Remove the battery from remote control handset when it is not to be used for a long period.

Otherwise it can be damaged due to leakage of battery.

Effective range

Do not:

Make sure that there is no obstacle

between the infrared receiver of the

unit and remote control.

Do not expose the infrared receiver to

direct sunlight or other strong light,

such as inverter fluorescent light.

Note:

If you install the unit on rack, etc., the

remote controllable range may decrease

depending on the thickness or colour of

glass door of rack.

Connections

Caution: Make all connections before plugging the system into an AC power outlet.

Connecting the Antenna

Connect the supplied DAB/FM antenna to the DAB/FM ANTENNA socket on the rear of the CD

player by turning the antenna’s screw cap clockwise.

Note: Do not overtighten, this could damage the antenna.

Caution: To avoid noise, keep antennas away from the system, the connecting cord and the AC

cord.

Connecting the Speakers

Connect the speaker cords between the terminals as shown below.

Connect the cords with a silver line to the (-) terminals and cords with a gold line to the (+) terminals.

Connect the control cable between the CD player

and the amplifier.

Connecting the iPod Docking

This unit has an external i-Pod docking. You can connect your iPod portable player in the iPod

docking. Make sure the dock adaptor is compatible to your iPod.

Connecting Auxiliary Equipment (AUX INPUT)

Connect the AUX INPUT sockets on this unit to the line output sockets on the auxiliary equipment

as illustrated below.

Connecting Auxiliary Equipment (LINE OUT)

Connect the LINE OUT sockets on this unit to the auxiliary input sockets on the auxiliary

equipment as illustrated below.

Connecting the Headphones

Connect a pair of headphones to the phones jack. No sound comes out of the speakers.

Note: Be sure to turn down the volume before connecting or putting on headphones.

Caution: Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.

Connecting the AC Power Plug

Insert the AC power plug into a wall outlet, and your system is ready to use.

Caution: Be sure to unplug the power plug from the outlet when going out or when the system is

not in use for an extended period of time.

Turning the Power On and Off

Turning the System On

Press the Standby button ( ) to turn the system on from standby mode. The display comes on.

Caution: When turning the system on, the system comes on ready to continue in the mode it was

in when last turned off.

Turning the System Off

Press the Standby button ( ) again to turn the system off (called Standby Mode). The clock will be

displayed.

Switching the System to Eco Power Standby Mode

If the system is in Normal Standby Mode with clock display. Press and hold the Standby button ( )

for 3 seconds or longer to switch to Eco Power Standby Mode. The Eco Power LED light will be on.

Then press the Standby button ( ) again or press the Clock button (CLOCK) to switch to Normal

Standby Mode. The clock will be displayed and the Eco Power LED light will be off.

Caution: Be sure to unplug the system from the wall output when the system is not in use for an

extended period of time.

Setting the Clock



 Setting the Clock Manually

1. Set the unit to normal standby mode.

2. Press the Clock button (CLOCK), the hour indicator will blink.

3. Set the hour with the Volume Down button (VOL-) or Volume Up button (VOL+).

4. Press the Clock button (CLOCK), the minute indicator will blink.

5. Set the minute with the Volume Down button (VOL-) or Volume Up button (VOL+).

6. Press the Clock button (CLOCK), 12H or 24H will blink.

7. Set the clock to either 12 or 24 hour format with either of the Volume Down button (VOL-) or

Volume Up button (VOL+).

8. Press the Clock button (CLOCK), the built-in clock starts operating.

Please note:

• The clock must be set in standby mode and if the set-up time for each step is longer than 3

seconds, set-up will be cancelled.

• If a power failure occurs or the unit is disconnected from the mains, the clock setting will be lost.



 Setting the Clock Automatically

Tune into either a DAB or RDS station and wait for a few minutes. To confirm, press the Clock

button (CLOCK).

Sound Quality

Adjusting the Volume

To increase or decrease the volume, rotate the Volume Control knob (- VOLUME CONTROL +) on the

amplifier or press the Volume Up/Down buttons (VOL +/-) on the remote control.

For private listening, you can connect headphones to the headphone jack, and no sound will come

out from the speakers.

Note: Be sure to turn down the volume before connecting or putting on headphones. Do not listen

to headphones at high volume, as such use can permanently damage your hearing.

Warning: The default volume setting is at 12.

Adjusting the super bass

You can reinforce the bass sound to maintain rich, full bass at low volume.

Press the Super Bass button (S-BASS) on the remote control to get the effect, the word

“S-BASS” will display on the Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD). Press the Super Bass button

(S-BASS) again to cancel the effect.

Control the Loudness

This unit has loudness function, which can automatically increase the bass sound effect at low

volume. It can also increase the bass sound effect at high volume, but it will be relatively less

when it is at high volume. Press the Loudness button (LOUDNESS) on the remote control to obtain

the loudness function, the word “LOUD” will display on the Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).

Preset Equalizer

You can adjust the sound reproduced simply by choosing from 5 preset equalizers. Press the

Preset Equalizer button (P-EQ) repeatedly to scroll through the following options:

Changing the Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) Darkness

This unit has three brightness levels for you to adjust the clock display. You only need to press the

Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD) Dimmer Control button (DIM) on the remote control, then you can

choose the proper lighting to use this system at different times.

Listening to Radio Broadcasts

DAB Radio



 Tuning to DAB for the first time

* Press the Function button (FUNCTION) repeatedly on the front panel of the amplifier or the Tuner

button (TUNER) on the remote control to select the DAB station.

* The system will start to a quick scan to search for all available Band lll channels automatically.

* If no DAB service is available “NO SIGNAL” will be displayed.

* If there are available DAB services, the system will store all detected stations.

* At completion of the scanning, the system will tune to a station on the list.



 Tuning to a station

1. Press the Reverse/ Fast Forward buttons (D/C) to select the desired station from the list.

2. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to confirm.

 Re-tuning

By re-tuning, you can update your DAB ensemble list all over again. At the completion of scanning,

the system will tune to the first service of the first ensemble in the updated ensemble list.

* Press and hold the Scan button (INTRO/SCAN) for 2 seconds or more, the system will start full

scan to search for all available Band lll channels again automatically.

* Press the Scan button (INTRO/SCAN) briefly, the system will start a quick scan process to search

for Band lll channels again automatically.



 Manual Tuning

1. Press and hold the Play/Pause button (

BF) for more than 2 seconds to enter the manual tuning

mode.

2. Press the Reverse/ Fast Forward buttons (

D/C) to select your desired DAB channels

backward/forward.

3. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to confirm and tune to your selected channel.



 Programming DAB Stations

You can save up to 20 DAB stations in the system memory.

1. Press the Reverse/ Fast Forward button (D/C) to select your desired DAB channels.

2. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to confirm, and tune to your selected channel.

3. Press the Program button (PROG) and then press the Previous/ Next buttons (H/G) to select

a location for storing your desired station. You can also use the Number buttons (0-9) to input a

number directly and tune to the service associated with this number. If the number is larger than

10, press the Number button (10+) once or more to select the first digit you want and then use

the Number buttons (0-9) to input the second digit.

4. Press the Program button (PROG) again for confirmation until “P # SAVED”(# indicating the preset

number your selected) display.



 Tuning to Preset DAB Stations

* Press the Previous/ Next buttons (H/G) until the desired preset station is displayed. The

system will tune to the selected station automatically.

* You can also use the Number buttons (0-9) to input a number directly and tune to the service

associated with this number.

* To input a number larger than 10, press the Number button (10+) once or more to select the first

digit you want and then use the Number buttons (0-9) to input the second digit.



 DAB Information Display

You can view the DAB service information in the following modes. Depending on the DAB radio

station you are tuning to, some information modes may be unavailable. Press the Display button

(DISPLAY) repeatedly to view the following information.

 Resetting the system

1. In the DAB mode, press and hold the Display button (DISPLAY) until “SYS RESET” appears on the

Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).

2. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to confirm. The system will clear its internal memory and

automatically start a quick scan all over again.

Note: If no DAB signal is found, it may be necessary for you to relocate your radio. Alternatively,

please visit http://www.ukdigitalradio.com/coverage to check whether the DAB cover

age is available in your area.

FM Radio

You can listen to FM stations. Stations can be tuned in manually, automatically, or from preset

memory storage.

Caution: Before listening to the radio, please check that the FM antenna is correctly connected and

adjusted for length and direction.



 Tuning in a Station

1. Repeatedly press the Function button (FUNCTION) on the front of the amplifier until FM Radio is

displayed on the display screen, or press the Tuner Function button ( ) on the remote control.

2. Tune in a station using one of the following methods.



 Auto Tuning

If you press the Intro/Scan button (INTRO/SCAN) button on the remote control, display will show

“AUTOSCAN” and the auto tuning would start.



 Manual Tuning

Repeatedly press the Tuning Backward/Forward buttons (- TUNING +) on the top of the CD player

or press the

C buttons on the remote control to change the frequency until you find the

station you want.



 Preset Tuning (Available only after the stations are preset)

Repeatedly press the Preset Up/Down switch buttons (- PRESET +) on the top of the CD player or

press the

G buttons on the remote control to select the desired preset number. Its band

and frequency are displayed on the Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD).

Presetting Stations

You can manually preset up to 20 FM stations.

Tune in the desired station:

1. Press the Program button (PROG) on the remote control, the preset number will be displayed.

2. Press the Preset Up/ Down switch buttons (- PRESET +) on the top of the CD player or the

G buttons on the remote control to select the preset number.

- PRESET/

H Decrease the preset number by 1

PRESET +/

G Increase the preset number by 1

Note: If you select more than 20, the preset number will be changed to “1” automatically.

3. Press the Program button (PROG) again to store the station. The display will return to the

broadcast frequency display.

4. Repeat above steps 1 to 3 for each station you want to store in memory with a preset number.

Note: If the system is unplugged or if a power failure occurs, the preset stations will not be erased

after stored.

To change the FM Reception Mode

Press the Mode button (MODE) to select the Auto or Mono channel to receive the best FM reception

mode.

RDS (Radio Data System) Reception

Many FM stations are broadcasting added data compatible with RDS. This radio set offers

convenient functions using such data.

Press the Display button (DISPLAY) on the remote control repeatedly to select the information that

displayed as follows.



 PRG TYPE

Program type identification signal. (Example: News, Rock, Classical music.)



 RADIO TEXT

This displays the news of stations.



 DATE/CLOCK

This displays the current date and time, which is supplied by the radio station and should always

be accurate.

CD Operation

CD Playing

1. Repeatedly press the Function button (FUNCTION) on the front of the amplifier or press the Disc

Function button ( ) on the remote control.

2. Press the Open/Close button (K) to open the disc door and place the disc on the disc tray (with

the printed side up).

3. Press the Open/Close button (K) to close the disc door, the unit will read the disc and play it

automatically.

Note: If in stop mode, please press the Play/Pause button (BF) to start playing the disc.

4. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to pause the playing, press the button again to continue play.

5. Press the Stop button (L) to stop the disc playing.

Direct Select track

Load a disc, upon finishing reading the disc, you can select tracks by using number buttons (0-9,

10+) on the remote control and play.

 If the song number is less than 10, press the number buttons 0-9.

 If the song number is over 10, press the Number button (10+) and press the one of the number

buttons 0-9. Each press of 10+ increases the tens by 1 eg 10, 20, 30, so for track ‘22’ press ‘10+’

twice then ‘2’.

To Skip Search and Play

 Press the Previous button (H) once or more to skip previous one or more tracks of the disc.

 Press the Next button (G) once or more to skip forward one or more tracks of the disc.

To Search

Press and hold the Reverse button (D) or Fast Forward button (C) to search for the position that

you intend to start playing.

Text Display During Playback

Press the Display button (DISPLAY) to show the current track number and remaining playback time.

Program Play

1. Insert a disc and press the (STOP) when it starts playing.

2. Press the Program button (PROG), “01-P-01” appears.

3. Press the Number buttons (0-9, +10) or the H/G buttons on the remote control to select the

desired track number.

4. Press the Program button (PROG) to confirm the track number to be stored.

5. Repeat steps 3-4 to select and store all desired tracks.

6. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to start programme play.

7. Press the Stop button (L) once to stop the programme play. Press the Stop button (L) twice to

clear program.

Note: Random play will not shuffle the programmed music list.

Random Play (CD and MP3 discs)

You can have the CD played in a random order.

Random play begins by pressing the Random button (RANDOM) on the remote control.

Playing the Beginning (Intro) of each Track

Press the Intro/Scan button (INTRO/SCAN) on the remote control to play the beginning of each track

consecutively. The playing time of each track is 10 seconds. When you hear the desired track,

press Play/Pause (BF) button twice.

Playing Repeatedly

ONE and ALL Repeat Play can be set by pressing the Mode button (MODE).

First press : To repeat playing same track , the word “REP” will blink.

Second press : To repeat playing all tracks on a disc, the word “REP” do not blink.

Third press : To cancel the repeat playing, the word “REP” disappears.

 You can use this function to repeat playing certain part of a track.

When it is playing, press the repeat A-B button (A-B) on the remote control at the beginning of the

content that needs repeat playing. Press the repeat A-B button (A-B) again at the end of the

content that needs repeat playing. The player will then repeatedly play between A and B until you

press the repeat A-B button (A-B) again to cancel this function. The unit will then turn to normal

playing mode.

Note: A-B repeat function can only be used within the same track.

MP3 Disc Playing

When selecting tracks the player will automatically display the directory and track number. For

example: track number 21 may be from directory 3, track 7.

1. Repeatedly press the Function button (FUNCTION) on the front of the amplifier until MP3 displays

on the display screen, or press the Disc Function button ( ) on the remote control.

2. Press the Open/Close button (K) to open the disc door and place the MP3 disc on the disc tray.

3. Press the Display button (DISPLAY) on the remote control, ID3 information (song title and artist)

will be displayed or “NO ID3” if there is no ID3 information. Press this button again, and the

directory, track and playing time will be displayed.

4. When playing MP3 discs, the current album and track will be displayed.

5. Press the H, G buttons to select the previous/next track. When pressing the D, C

buttons for a few seconds, it will search backward or search forward.

6. Press the Album Up button (ALB+) or Album Down button (ALB-) on the remote control to select

the next/previous directory, and play the first track of this directory.

If the playing is stopped, press the Album Up button (ALB+) or Album Down button (ALB-) on the

remote control to select the next/previous directory.

Then choose the track with the Next button (G) or Previous button (H).

7. Press the Play/Pause button (BF) to start play the disc.

8. Press the Stop button (L) to stop playing.

Note: Play will continue to the final track when the selected tracks have been played.

The first 2 digits of the display is the directory number, the next 3 digits is the track number

and the remaining digits display the minutes and seconds.

Playing Repeatedly

ONE, DIR and ALL repeat play can be set by pressing the Mode button (MODE).

First press : To repeat the same track, the words “TRK REP” blink.

Second press : To repeat ALB (Album), the words “ALB REP” blink.

Third press : To repeat ALL (All directories and tracks), the words “ALB TRK REP” do not blink.

Fourth press : To cancel the repeat playing, the word “REP” disappears.

 You can use this function to repeat playing certain part of a track.

When it is playing, press the repeat A-B button (A-B) on the remote control at the beginning of the

content that needs repeat playing. Press the repeat A-B button (A-B) again at the end of the

content that needs repeat playing. Then the player will repeatedly play between A and B until you

press the repeat A-B button (A-B) again to cancel the this function. The unit will then turn to normal

playing mode.

Note: A-B repeat function can only be used within the same track.

Use the USB

By connecting an USB mass storage device (including USB flash memory, USB flash players or

memory cards) to this unit, you can enjoy the device's stored music through the powerful speakers

of Hi-Fi system.

1. Insert the USB device's USB plug into the socket on the rear of unit.

2. Press the USB button on remote control or press the Function button (FUNCTION) on the panel of

the amplifier to select the USB function.

3. The device's stored music will be played automatically.

4. When you store more one folders in the USB flash, use the Album Up button (ALB+) or Album

Down button (ALB-) on the remote control to select the next/previous folder. Then choose the

track with the Next button (G) or Previous button (H) to play the folder.

For the devices with USB cables:

1. Insert one plug of the USB cable (not supplied) to the socket on the set.

2. Insert the other plug of the USB cable to the USB output terminal of the USB device.

For the memory card:

1. Insert the memory card into a card reader (not supplied).

2. Use a USB cable (not supplied) to connect the card reader into the socket on the set.

USB Storage Device Data Protection

 Always insert the USB device in the correct direction. Failure to do so may result in damage

to the USB device and this product.

 Do not remove the USB device while it is being accessed.

 Electrical interference and electrostatic discharges may cause the USB device to

malfunction and suffer damage, resulting in data loss.

It is strongly recommended that any important data is backed up on a PC to protect against corruption,

data loss or device malfunction. Please note that our company shall not accept any liability for

damage or loss of stored data.

Note: USB connection is not compatible with all hard drive models.

Use the iPod portable player

 Correctly dock your iPod portable player in the docking. Make sure the dock adaptor is compatible.

 Press the iPod button (iPod/AUX) on the remote control or the Function button (FUNCTION) on the

panel of the amplifier to select iPod source.

 Playback starts automatically. You can select available features (e.g. BF,G,H etc.)

during playback.

 In power on mode, directly dock your iPod portable player in the docking for charging.

Note: For the purpose of saving power, recharging of your iPod or USB device is NOT SUPPORTED

when the main set is in the STANDBY MODE.

Setting the Sleep Timer

Use the sleep timer to turn the system off after a certain number of minutes when it is playing. By

setting the sleep timer, you can fall asleep to music and know that your system will turn off by itself

rather than play all night.

1. Play a CD or tune in to the desired station.

2. To set the sleep timer press the Sleep button (SLEEP) on the remote control repeatedly, it

changes the number of minutes shown on the display in this sequence:

After setting the number of minutes for the sleep timer, the display will return to the display as

before setting the sleep timer.

The system is now set to turn off after the number of minutes you set.

To confirm the sleep time

When the Sleep button (SLEEP) on the remote control is pressed once, the remaining sleep time is

displayed. Wait for a second until the display returns to the original display.

To cancel the sleep timer setting

Repeatedly press the Sleep button (SLEEP) on the remote control until the “00” is displayed.

Turning off the system can also cancels the sleep timer.

Setting the Daily on Timer

You can use the setting timer to make the unit automatically turn on at a certain time everyday from

standby. When the setting timer is on, the timer indicator “ ” will be displayed. But the clock must be

correctly set for the timer to operate correctly.

1. In standby mode, press the Timer button (

TIMER) on the remote control, the hour indicator will

blink.

2. Set the hour with the Volume Down button (

VOL-) or Volume Up button (VOL+).

3. Press the Timer button (TIMER) on the remote control, the minute indicator will blink.

4. Set the minute with the Volume Down button (VOL-) or Volume Up button (VOL+).

5. Press the Timer button (

TIMER) on the remote control, the selected time is set. Press the same

button again, the “OFF” indicator will blink. Then set the daily timer to “ON” (daily timer set is in

effect) or “OFF” (daily timer set is to cancel) by pressing the Volume Down button (

VOL-) or

Volume Up button (VOL+).

Caution:

* You can set the daily timer only in standby mode.

* The operating time of every step shouldn’t be longer than 3 seconds or it will return to time

display.

* The sound source on the automatic on mode is the same as the sound source the last time, the

unit was turned off by the standby switch.

* The volume automatically comes on at level 12.

To confirm the daily time

When you press the Timer button (TIMER) on the remote control in standby mode, the daily time is

displayed. Wait for a few seconds until the display returns to the time display.

To cancel the daily timer setting

Repeat the previous steps for setting the daily timer until “OFF” is displayed.

Turning off the system also cancels the daily timer.

Disc Handling

Handling Precautions

• Hold the disc by the edges so the surface will not be soiled with fingerprints. (A)

Fingerprints, dirt and scratches can cause skipping and distortion.

• Do not write on the label side with a ball-point pen or other writing implements.

• Do not use record cleaning sprays, benzine, thinner, static electricity prevention liquids or any

other solvent.

• Be careful not to drop or bend the disc.

• Do not install more than 1 disc on the disc tray.

• Do not try to close the disc tray when the disc is not installed properly.

• Be sure to store the disc in its exclusive case when not in use.

If the surface is soiled (B)

• Wipe gently with a soft, damp (water only) cloth.

• When wiping discs, always move the cloth from the center hole toward the outer edge.

(If you wipe the discs using a circular motion, circular scratches are likely to occur, which will

cause noise.)

• If the disc is brought from a cold to a warm environment, moisture may form on the disc. Wipe

the moisture off with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth before using the disc.

Improper disc storage

You can damage discs if you store them in the following places:

• Areas exposed to direct sunlight.

• Humid or dusty areas.

• Areas directly exposed to a heat outlet or heating appliance.

The disc formats can play in this unit:

Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW.
