The Lightpipe improves the IrDA communication reliability and
speed between your reader and the mobile device. This kit
includes the following contents:
• IP3/IP4 Reader Lightpipe with pre-applied adhesive
• IP3/IP4 Reader Lightpipe Instructions
Reader and Mobile Device Surface Preparation
1 Remove the existing gold reflector tape from your Reader. It is
recommended that you use rubbing alcohol to remove any
remaining reflector tape residue. However, do not use any sol-
vent remover that will harm the Reader plastic.
2 Remove the existing IR Reflector label on your mobile device
(if applicable). Ensure all label residue is removed from that
location.

Lightpipe Installation
1 Remove the backing from the adhesive on the Lightpipe
assembly.
2 Position the lower end of the Lightpipe into the angled recess
of the Reader.
3 Align the upper end with the molded feature in the Reader so
that the edge of the Lightpipe fits squarely across the edge of
the molded feature.
4 Press firmly into place and hold for a few seconds to allow the
adhesive to set.
Note: It is very important that the new Lightpipe is
positioned exactly as shown in the following illustra-
tion. This helps ensure proper reflecting of the Infrared
signals between your mobile device and your reader.
