content and search functionality. IP addresses are used to
classify regional behavior.

Preface
Intended use
The cobas® mobile solution is a mobile tablet hardware
delivered with the appropriate operating system (OTSS)
and a number of general use applications (individual
OTSS or part of the operating system OTSS).The
cobas® mobile solution is intended to be used for Roche
Diagnostics digital offerings and will be restricted
(whitelisted) to a limited number of applications and
Internet sites to connect to.

Safety precautions

To avoid serious or fatal injury, read and
comply with the following safety precautions.
q Ensure that you also read and comply with the safety
information in the user documentation provided by the
manufacturer of the tablet.
Insufficient knowledge and skills As an operator, ensure that you know the relevant safety
precaution guidelines and standards and the information
and procedures contained in these instructions.
r Follow standard laboratory practices, especially when
you work with biohazardous material.
Infectious samples In a laboratory, the surface of the tablet may come into
contact with sample material of human origin. Therefore,
after use in a laboratory, the tablet must be treated as
potentially biohazardous.
r For disinfection procedures, refer to the instructions
for using mobile devices in your laboratory in
combination with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Electromagnetic interference Mobile devices that emit electromagnetic waves may
cause laboratory equipment to malfunction.
r Refer to the information on electromagnetic
compatibility contained in the user documentation of
the other equipment used in your laboratory before
operating the tablet within close proximity to this
equipment.

Non-approved spare parts or accessories Use of non-approved spare parts or accessories may
result in malfunction of the system and may render the
warranty null and void.
r Use only spare parts and accessories approved by
Roche Diagnostics.
Disposal A biohazardous mobile device may lead to infection.
r Treat the tablet as biohazardous waste.
Decontamination, that is the combination of processes
including cleaning, disinfection, and/or sterilization, is
required before reuse, recycling, or disposal of the
system.
r Dispose of the tablet according to the local
regulations. For more information, contact your Roche
Service representative.
About the protection of personal data and software
security
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a
regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all
citizens of the European Union (EU) and the European
Economic Area (EEA). The regulation also covers the
processing of personal data outside the EU and EEA
areas.
If this regulation or any other privacy protection
regulation is applicable for your country, observe the
following safety messages to prevent data breaches and
to meet the GDPR:
Access control Unauthorized access may lead to data breaches.
r Implement physical access controls to ensure that
only authorized laboratory staff operate the system at
all times.

Corrupt data due to a disclosed password The security of the system and its data depends on the
password-protected access. If an unauthorized person
discovers your user ID and password, they could
compromise this security.
r Always enter your password unobserved.
r Do not write down your password anywhere, including
in a contact form, in the address book, or in a file on
the computer.
r Do not disclose your password to anyone. Roche will
never ask you for your password.
r If you ever disclose your password to anyone, change
it immediately afterwards.
r Contact your local Roche affiliate if you think your
account has been compromised.
Network security Malicious software and hacker attacks may impair IT
security. The laboratory is responsible for the IT security
of their IT infrastructure.
r To protect and separate Roche systems from other
laboratory infrastructure, the Roche-provided firewall
must be used.
r Secure all devices and services used in the laboratory
infrastructure against malicious software and
unauthorized access.
r Secure the network environment to be resilient
against traffic redirection and eavesdropping.
Cybersecurity and privacy awareness Insufficiently informed employees can endanger security.
r Perform regular cybersecurity and privacy awareness
trainings for laboratory staff handling personal data.
Instruct laboratory staff how to handle data in a
compliant way and according to the privacy principles
as mandated by customer regulations.
r Check your instrument for suspicious activity and
report any suspected compromise to your local Roche
representative immediately.
r Update to the latest software versions provided by
Roche as soon as possible.
r Do not use external storage devices or storage media
(e.g., USB flash drives or DVDs) on the system that
have been used on public or private computers.
Failure to do so may result in data loss and render the
instrument unusable.

Computer viruses If you detect an unexpected operation or program/data
damage, the PC may be infected with a computer virus.
r To avoid virus infections, scan removable storage
media by an antivirus software before using them on
the system.
r Never use a program or storage medium that is
suspected of containing a virus.
r If you think your PC is infected with a computer virus,
call your local Roche Service representative. Your
local Roche Service representative will check your
system for proper functionality.

Using the User Assistance app
Content The User Assistance includes the same content as the
User Guide.
Updates When online, the User Assistance automatically checks
for updates.
No offline usage in web-based version When accessing the User Assistance app, part of the
content is downloaded to the browser cache. However,
not all content can be made available offline due to
limitations of the cache space.
If you need the User Assistance offline, you must install a
standalone version on a PC. For more information, see the
user documentation for the product.
r To use the User Assistance app

Open the User Assistance app.

If required, enter the user name and password
provided by your Roche Service representative.

To find a publication, use the filter settings.

Select the publications you are interested in and, on
the right panel, choose the Add to list button.
I Check that the software version of the publication
is the same as the software version on the
analyzer.

To open the User Assistance, choose the publication
you want to view.

On the right panel, choose the Show publication
button.

Installing apps
You can install new Roche apps that are released, or you
can reinstall a Roche app that was previously on the
tablet.
r To install an app

On the home screen, choose the cobas® app zone
app.

Choose the icon for the app that you want to install.

Read the description and legal notice for the app.

Choose the GET button.
I If you have to enter logon credentials, contact your
Roche Service representative.

If the Download file again? dialog box is displayed,
choose the Download button.

To accept the warning about harmful files, choose the
OK button.
f The install file for the app downloads to the tablet.

On the status bar, swipe down to view notifications.

Choose the latest notification for the downloaded file.
I The latest notification is at the top of the list.

Choose the Install button.
I When the app has finished installing, choose the
Open button to open the app.

Roche app, update it in cobas® app zone.
r To update an app

Using cobas® screen share
cobas® screen share is a software solution for
professionals to support managing laboratory
instruments. It is intended to be used to remotely interact
with Roche instruments or third-party instruments via the
cobas® mobile solution.
q When mirroring screens, you can change to the
screen of a different analyzer. To change to the screen of
a different analyzer, ensure that you follow the procedure
below.
r To mirror the screen of an analyzer

On the home screen, choose the
cobas® screen share app.

From the list of analyzers, choose the analyzer that you
want to mirror the screen of.
f cobas® screen share connects to the analyzer
and then mirrors the screen.
r To change to the screen of a different
analyzer

Press the Recents button on the tablet.

In the list of recent apps, find the screen share app
and swipe it to the side.

On the home screen, choose the
