Stop Light Switch Recall

Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall
campaign, Recall No.: 04E-039, involving the Bendix
®
SL-4
stop light switch.
The unit subject to recall is part number 274746 manufactured between January 1,
2003 and August 31, 2003.
Identification:
Impacted SL-4
switches, manufactured between January 1, 2003 and August
31, 2003 can be identified by the date code printed on a white Bendix label affixed
to the unit. The date code, featuring a “Month/Year” format, will appear in red or
black type. For example, an SL-4 switch assembly manufactured in July of 2003
will have a date code of “07/03”. An SL-4 switch with a date code ranging from
“01/03” to 08/03” would represent one of the potentially affected units that is included
in the recall campaign.
Problem Description:
Bendix has determined that the unit’s piston mechanism may not be properly lubricated which can cause the
SL-4 switch to stick. This can result in the vehicle stop lamps staying illuminated or failing to extinguish promptly.
The service, parking and emergency braking of the vehicle are not affected by this condition.
The cause of the defect is attributable to insufficient lubrication in the supplier’s manufacturing process. The
manufacturing processes have been modified to correct this factor.
What you need to do:
Immediately stop using and/or selling any of the Bendix
SL-4 stop light switches (part number 274746)

between January 1, 2003 and August 31, 2003. A replacement part, piece number 801906, for the SL-4

campaign.
