Instructions
This electric kit has been tested for use with the Dakota Outdoor Gas Fireplace. Check with your local building code agency
before you begin installation to ensure compliance with local codes, including the need for permits and follow-up inspec-
tions. If you encounter any problems regarding code approvals, or if you need clari cation of any of the instructions con-
tained here, contact your Hearth & Home Technologies dealer. For the dealer nearest you, please visit www.hearthnhome.

CAUTION! Risk of Cuts, Abrasions or Flying Debris. Wear protective gloves and
safety glasses during installation. Sheet metal edges are sharp.
Optional Electric Kit
Find a location to mount the control box within 30-32
inches of the appliance.

Remove the junction box bracket.
Make hand bends to bracket as shown below:

Fasten bracket to junction box with two screws (provided
with junction box).
WARNING! Risk of Shock! Disconnect electrical power
to appliance before installing ELEC-DAKOTA kit.
Remove four screws to remove cover from the control
box.

Thread wires through here

Thread wire into junction box.
Place junction box into the control box (matching holes)
and fasten with the two screws provided in fastener pack.

Wire the GFCI receptacle as shown below:
Assemble the junction box.

Replace the cover on the control box.
The control module can be accessed through the valve
access panel on the right side of the replace.
Lift doors out and set aside.
Remove grate and pilot shield.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the right refractory
by removing the two screws securing the refractory
retaining strip. Remove the refractory side panel and
set aside.

Plug SW1 wires to switch.
Note: Red (+) and black (-) do not have to be attached,
or can be attached to battery holder for optional battery
backup. Install batteries only when needed.

Figure 12. Replace Control Module
Remove the inside valve access panel by lifting it up
and out.
Using a phillips screwdriver remove the exterior valve
access panel.
Unplug wire harness and pilot wires.
Remove the control module by loosening the two
screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Replace with the
control module provided in the electric kit. Discard used
control module.
Plug wire harness and pilot wires into the new control
module.
Plug transformer into GFCI outlet.
Replace the cover on the control box.
