Real Flame 870 is a 38” Fire Column that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It has been designed and tested for use with Real Flame® 13 oz. Gel Cans only. The fire column comes with a snuffer tool that can be used to extinguish the fire, and a vinyl cover to protect it when not in use.
To use the fire column, first fill it with 30 Lbs. of sand (not included). Then, place the Modesto Column upside down on a level surface and install the Base Plate onto the bottom of the unit using the included hardware. Flip the column over so that it is upright and install the Glass on the column so that it is around the raised center section.

1. This Real Flame

not burn any other kind of gel fuel or trash, paper, wood, gasoline or other flammable materials in the fire column.
2. Never alter or dismantle the fire column in any manner.
3. Make sure the fire column is placed on a flat and level surface. Failure to do so could cause the product to tip,
resulting in property damage or serious injury. Do not place the fire column in an area with lots of traffic, such as
a hallway or entryway.

Do not let anyone below age 18 use this product. Never leave a fire unattended. Keep children and pets away
from a burning unit.
5. Do not pour or scoop gel out of the can or try to combine gel from different cans.
6. Do not burn more than can of fuel at a time. Wipe up spills. Never burn fuel outside the designated burn area;
doing so could cause the fire to spread, or the column to shatter.
7. Use a long match or extended butane lighter to ignite fuel.
8.
Never touch glass or any surfaces near the flame during or immediately after burning the fuel. They will be
extremely HOT. Allow surfaces and the burn cup to cool for 20 minutes before touching, refueling, or moving
the unit.
9. Do not wear flammable or loose clothing when operating the fireplace.
Do not lean over the unit when lighting.
10. Exercise the same precautions as you would with any open fire.
GEL FUEL
Real Flame® Gel Fuel Contains Isopropyl Alcohol.
Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes or prolonged contact
with skin. May irritate eyes. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep away
from flame, heat or items that spark. Use in well-ventilated areas.
Keep out of reach of children and pets. In case of fire, use a CO2
fire extinguisher or baking soda.

Step One
Place the Modesto Column (1) upside down on a level surface.
Fill the column with 30 Lbs. of sand (not included).

After sand has been poured into the column, install the Base Plate (4)
onto the bottom of the unit using the included hardware as shown.

Place the rock around the can recess. Any rocks that fall in the recess
must be removed prior to inserting a can.

After removing paper label from Real Flame Gel Fireplace Fuel can (sold
separately), remove lid and place open can into the center recess. Set
the lid aside.

Care and Cleaning
Real Flame Gel Fireplace Fuel cans are for single use only. Allow to
cool for at least 20 minutes after use and then discard. Remember
to recycle.
A standard household glass cleaner can be used to clean the glass
parts of the replace.
A damp rag and mild soap can be used to clean the body of the
replace.
