Introduction: Airflow error
Airflow measure
In the Barco iQ projectors the airflow sensor R763593 mounted on the top cover of the projector is used
to measure the airflow in the projector. The airflow sensor is pre heated and measures the temperature
of the air taken in at the XCube that is cooling the analyzers, polarisers and LCD panels.
This airflow temperature signal will be compared to the ambient temperature signal in the Power box and
will generate an airflow error (appearing also on the screen) signal in case of :
insufficient airflow due to dirty dust filters
•blockedfan
A group of resistors is mounted (R11–R22) on the airflow module.
Field experienceshowedthatin iQ projectors using the 250W lamp (at high temperature) unwanted
airflow error s may occur even when in presen ce of clean d u st filters.
Note that when disconnecting (or in case of a bad connection ! ) the connector linking
the keypad and the airflow sensor module to the PMP, image -4,the warning will also
appear on the screen.

Domain of application
All the Barco iQ projectors using the 250W lamp may present this phenomenon i.e. :
iQ R /G 350 (Pro)
iQ R /G 500 (Pro)
It is not likely to occur on the other projector series, it is however not excluded.
All the airflow sensor modules R763593 with index 3 or higher are already adapted (resistors removed)
for this matter.
Resistor setting
Re-dimensioning the resistors may give some good results since it changes the sensitivity of the airflow
sensor detection.
The number and choice of resistors to be removed is determined to prevent loosing too much of the sen-
sitivity of the circuit (and prevent failure in detecting “real airflow problems)
The removal of following resistors should prevent undesired airflow errors and maintain sufficient temper-
ature sensitivity :
•R11
•R15
•R22
Removing the resistors
Risk of Electrical Shock: Power down the projector and unplug the power cord from the
wall outlet. Once the projector is cooled down and the power is off, continue with the
procedure.
Procedure
1. Remove the back cover (image -2)
2. Disconnect the local keypad sensor (image -3)
3. Remove the top cover
4. Loosen the 2 screws and remove the airflow module from the top
cover (image -4)
5. Unsolder and remove resistor R11 (image -5)
6. Unsold er and rem ove resistor R15
7. Unsold er and rem ove resistor R22
8. Mount the module on the cover and replace the covers

Solder tips
Proceed with caution when soldering a SMD component
Insure that the lead and solder pad area are free of any contamination by cleaning with a solvent
approved for use.
Insure that the Soldering Iron Tip is clean, in good condition and is fully inserted into the heater.
Use the appropriate Tip and Temperature.
Donot exert force onthe land (pad) during the soldering operation. Damaged or liftedpads mayresult.
Maximize the TIP to solder joint heat transfer by melting a small amount of solder on the Tip before
contact is m ade.
If solder joint is not complete within 5 seconds, the Tip should be removed from the work to prevent
thermal damage.
Surface Mount application however, may require a time period of up to 30 seconds depending upon
Componen t, L and Pattern size and thermal characteristics of the PC Assembly.
High Tip temperatures may cause damage to the component or to the soldering pads.
