What Is a G4100?
Quick Start Guide
Specifications
The G4100 Application Server is a Windows® Server 2003 server with the SyVox Speech
Recognition software loaded on it. The G4100 controls the data flow between your data
collection devices with the SyVox client and your host computer.
You can configure the G4100 using a local console or using a remote desktop connection.
You need to have one of the following power cords:
110V U.S. cord (comes with the G4100)
220-250 VAC for U.K. (P/N 586266)
220-250 VAC for Europe (P/N 586267)
Intermec recommends that you connect the G4100 to an uninterruptible power supply
(UPS). You can order the following UPSs and serial cable from Intermec:
North America UPS (P/N 589082)
International UPS (P/N 589079)
9F-9M serial cable (P/N 589157)

When installing the server in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, you must follow these
requirements:
Do not exceed the maximum recommended ambient temperature of 50°C (122°F). Make
sure that you consider that the ambient temperature of the rack environment may
exceed the room temperature.
Do not block the vents found at the front or the rear of the server. If you reduce the
amount of free air to these openings, you may affect the server operation.
Do not mount the server in any way that may make the rack unstable because of uneven
mechanical loading.
Make sure that you consider the combined electrical loads on the supply circuit of all the
equipment that is installed in the rack, including the overcurrent protection and the
supply wiring. Use the ratings of the equipment.
Make sure that you maintain the integrity of the earth ground. If the server is not
connected directly to the branch circuit, then the power source must have a reliable
earth ground connection.
For instructions on rack mounting the G4100, see “Mounting the G4100 in a Rack” in this
guide.
Turning On and Accessing
Plug in the power cord, and connect an Ethernet cable to the G4100 and a network
outlet.
Press the On/Off button.
If you have a DHCP server on your network, the G4100 automatically connects and
receives an IP address. If you don’t have a DHCP server, assign an IP address.
a Connect a PC to the G4100’s serial port.
b Open HyperTerminal, and connect to the G4100 with the following settings:
VT100, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit.
c At the SAC prompt, send the following command, and press Enter:
i <
netnumber
> <
g4100ip
> <
sub-net
>
where netnumber is the network number for the G4100, g4100ip is the IP
address, and sub-net is the subnet mask.
d Exit HyperTerminal, and disconnect the PC from the serial port.
On your PC, launch the Remote Desktop client to access the G4100 desktop. For help
with the Remote Desktop client, see the documentation for your Windows operating
system. To identify the G4100, use the IP address or the logical name (the default logical
name is gsaserialnumber where serialnumber is the serial number of the G4100, which is
on the front of the G4100). If a security screen appears, enter administrator in the User
Name field and intermec in the Password field, and click OK. You must type Intermec
in lowercase letters.
