Safety notes

For your safety

− Do not use the machine in case of:

– faulty operation

– damaged power cable

– after falling or other damage

– In such cases immediately have the

machine checked and repaired if nec-

essary at the customer service centre

– Never place the machine:

– directly on marble surfaces, untreated

or oiled woodwork (risk of non-remova-

ble coffee or descaler stains; no claims

will be entertained in such cases)

– directly beneath a power socket

– on flammable or meltable objects or

surfaces

– on hot surfaces or nearer than 50 cm to

open flames (same applies to the pow-

er cable!)

– under any covering

– To prevent frost damage, do not store

the machine at temperatures below 5

°C (e.g. in caravans)

Using it for other purposes is abusive

and dangerous

− Danger of electric shock! Never im-

merse the machine in water or any

other liquid

− Connect only to a properly grounded

power point (220-240 V) protected by

at least a 10 A fuse. To make sure that

the machine is switched o, remove the

plug from the power point

− Always pull out the power plug before:

– relocating the machine

– cleaning or maintenance

– long periods of disuse

− Never clamp or run the power cable

over sharp corners or edges: Danger of

electric shock!

− Damaged power cables may only be re-

placed at the customer service centre:

− Never touch the power plug/socket/

cable or the machine with damp or

wet hands. Never unplug by pulling the

power cable; always pull out the plug

− If you need an extension cable, make

sure it is suitable for your machine (3-

pole grounded, and at least 1.5 mm²

conductor cross-section), and lay the

cable to avoid tripping

− We recommend connecting the ma-

chine via an Fl circuit breaker. Consult

a specialist if in doubt

− Danger of scalding! Never move the

machine during operation!

− Never operate the machine without wa-

ter

− A permanent water supply connection is

not allowed

− Danger of burning! Never touch very

hot parts of the machine (e.g. brew unit

during operation)

− Danger of scalding! Do not touch the

coee or water jets

− Danger of scalding! Never start the ma-

chine when the operating lever is open

− Danger of scalding! Do not move the

operating lever when the machine is still

under pressure making tea or coee

− Do not insert ﬁngers or hands under the

operating lever: Danger of crushing!

− Do not insert ﬁngers in the capsule

holder. Danger of burning/cutting!

− The machine location must meet the

following requirements:

– Place on a dry, stable and level sur-

face that is waterproof and heat-

proof

– At least 60 cm (2 feet) away from sink

and taps

– Only use in dry rooms

Stand on a dry, stable, water and

heat resistant surface. Never di-

Making coffee⁄tea ⁄ After making coffee⁄tea

The coffee⁄tea key flashes white after pressing if heating up is still in progress.

Output starts when it stays white. Output quantities can be individually adjust-

ed (➔ page 12 «Coffee output programming»).

Tip: use thick preheated cups for Ristretto and Espresso to keep your coffee

warm. Preheat cup: fill Ristretto (without capsule) in cup.

Vent piping: after long pauses (e.g. vacations) the piping will contain air

(➔ page 16 «Flush and vent machine and piping»).

Before changing between coffee and tea: Without capsule, press cleaning

key to ﬂush out piping (➔ page 16 «Flush and vent machine and pip-

ing»).

Your first coffee or tea!

Capsule: The capsule may stick in the opening if it has been there a long time.

If so, open and close the operating lever. If the capsule is still blocked, push

down lightly with a finger (caution: hot sharp opening point inside!).

After opening the operating lever, water may drain into the tank. This is nor-

mal and not a fault.

Empty the used capsule container and drainage tank after about 10 bever-

ages or at least once daily to prevent overflow.

Important:

– Beware of hot coee/tea: danger of scalding!

– Coee/tea output is only possible with closed operating lever

Good to know

Eject the capsule: 1. Push operat-

ing lever right back to eject empty

capsule. 2. Pull operating lever right

forward

Coffee⁄tea output: Choose small

medium or large

Energy-saving mode

Energy-saving mode activated:

grammed, e.g. (min. 3 sec-

onds) until it starts flashing rapidly. It

then flickers slowly (= heating up)

Coffee output starts. When your cup

is full enough press the key again

– output stops and all keys light up

again

Output quantity on ﬁrst start-up (= factory setting):

Ristretto 30 ml (= «small» cup)

Espresso 50 ml (= «medium» cup)

Lungo/Tea 110 ml (= «large» cup)

Energy-saving mode is automatically activated if no key is pressed for 60 seconds

(key slowly flickers light⁄dark).

To shut it off permanently (e.g. during vacations), pull out the power plug.

Empty the water tank daily and fill

with cold water (max. 1.1 l)

Clean the water tank and lid with

lukewarm water and household

detergent. Never in the dish-

washer!

Daily: Empty the water tank

The capsule container holds about 10 capsules, and the drainage container about

500 ml (residual water from about 10 drinks). For hygienic reasons and to prevent

overflow, empty the water tank, capsule container and drip trays daily.

Important: Never clean any parts in the dishwasher (except the capsule container).

Pull the capsule container out of

the drainage tank. Dispose of used

capsules with household garbage.

Remove the lower drip grille

The drainage container can be re-

moved, if necessary, from the lower

drip tray (snaplock). Reassemble in

reverse order after cleaning

Cleaning the machine and parts

Rinse and vent the machine and piping

Prior to startup or after a long period

of disuse (e.g. vacations), rinse and

vent the machine and piping

Fill the water tank with cold

water (max. 1.1 Iitre)

Always pull out the power plug

first. Never immerse the machine or

wash under running water

Clean the machine and output with

a damp cloth. Never rub dry or

use abrasive detergents

Press cleaning key to start

rinsing⁄venting. When the pump

stops after about 15 seconds, rins-

ing⁄venting is finished

Place a cup under the output.

Do not insert a capsule. If the clean-

Power cuts or switching off interrupt the descaling programme. Then the

cleaning key flashes red⁄violet because the water circuit still contains descaler

which is a health hazard. Before making another drink in such case, al-

ways make sure the machine is flushed out with clean water.

Cleaning ⁄ maintenance ⁄ descaling

Always steam out prior to storage or transport

To avoid storage and transport

damage, steam out the machine

beforehand (water removal). This is

absolutely essential at temperatures

below 5 °C

Switch off the machine. Drain

the water tank and reinsert it.

Place a cup under the nozzle

Switch off the machine and let

it cool down. Pull out the power

plug. Keep the machine in a dry

dust-free place inaccessible to chil-

dren

Tip: Use the original packaging

Prior to long periods of disuse or at storage⁄transport temperatures below 5 °C,

steaming out the machine is essential to remove all water from the system.

This prevents any frost damage inside the machine.

Before operating again, first flush out the machine and piping (

➔

page 16).

At temperatures below 5 °C, the machine cannot be started and the cleaning key

lights up red .

Hold down the Lungo⁄tea key

and switch on the machine.

The steaming out programme starts;

now release the key

Caution: steam coming out of

the nozzle: danger of scalding!

After a few seconds you will hear

the pump. When it stops, the key

lights extinguish and steaming out

is finished
