Far south networks Com.X10 is a networking and installation solution that supports traditional PBX, ISDN and analog support, as well as IP gateway and ISDN-only support. It comes with two 8-port slots for analog line cards, a single 8-port slot for BRI interfaces, a single PRI interface, and up to three Base-T LAN interfaces. The Com.X10 server can be accessed via its GUI or serial port and comes pre-installed with software including DAHDI, mISDN, Asterisk, and Comma-GUI.

Description
The ComX supports two variants of hardware build
 Traditional PBX ISDN andor Analogue support
 IP Gateway ISDN only no analogue support
"Traditional PBX": ISDN and Analogue support
The figure above shows the rear panel view of the traditional PBX ComX build variant This layout has a
casing that supports Primary Rate ISDN  PRI port Basic Rate ISDN  BRI ports and Analogue telephony
ports up to  ports FXS or FXO and any combination thereof All telephony hardware interfaces are
modular availability of thereof is dependent on the ComX build to order

Hardware Installation
Important:
Refer to the ComX Installation Guide for important safety instructions installation
guidelines wiring and surge protection mechanisms and recommendations

 Ensure adequate ComX chassis ground zero impedance to earth bar and surge protection
mechanisms are suitably installed
 The ComX server is powered using the VDC power adapter included with your unit Connect the
power adapter to the server and to mains supply and turn the server on
 Connect any Comma iTA units to any available second and third LAN ports Eth Eth using Cate
cables
 Connect the ComX server to a LAN switch using the first Ethernet port Eth using and a Cate
cable
 Connect FXS ports to telephones fax machines etc using standard Cat twisted pair cables
 Connect FXO ports to telco lines PBXs etc using standard Cat twisted pair cables
 Connect BRI ports to telco NT equipment or PBXs using standard ST RJ cables
 Connect PRI port to telco NT equipment or PBXs using standard E balanced RJ cable
Accessing the Com.X10 server
Default access details for the ComX are
 The ComX server GUI can be accessed using the url httpip where ip is the IP addressed
assigned to the unit via DHCP or one of the statically configured IPs All administrative tasks
elaborated on below can be performed from the ComX GUI Please refer to the ComX Administrators
guide for more detail
The ComX server can also be accessed via its serial port using a nullmodem cable with the
following settings

The ComX server requests its IP address from the LAN  WAN via physical Ethernet port LAN
labelled the eth interface in the Operating System This interface can be reconfigured with a static
IP in etcnetworkinterfaces as follows
Note that the Operating System networking will need to be restarted after this configuration change

iTA is connected to

Configuration
 The ComX has been preconfigured with each Comma iTA device sold with the unit
etccommaconf including the MAC address and IP address configuration of each unit
 The Dahdi and mISDN configuration files have also been preconfigured to match the configuration of
the Comma units
 The comma manager Dahdi mISDN Asterisk and CommaGUI start automatically on system startup
NOTE The Comma iTA unit is reconfigured from the information on the server on every powerup or reset
Firmware upgrades made available on the ComX server thus become active on the next Comma iTA
restart
Identifying connected Comma iTAs
 From the GUI select the Hardware panel A Scan of the network will list additional devices
Alternatively from the server type the following
 Connected Comma iTA devices will be identified by their MAC addresses and IP addresses if
connected correctly and the hardware configuration and software versions will be listed
 If IP addresses are not listed the unit may be connected in the wrong order Connect the units to
different ComX Ethernet ports The units MAC addresses can be viewed with their interface
configuration in etccommaconf in order to determine the correct connection order
Logging and Diagnostics
 From the CommaGUI select the Monitoring menu for an extensive monitoring suite

The command line interface of the Comma iTA may be accessed from the Comma Manager directory
by typing
comma-console <IP ADDRESS>
A log is maintained while the Comma Manager is running typically found at varlogcommalog
The ComX server system log keeps a record of system warnings and errors and can be viewed as
follows
