SAFEGUARDING THE ENVIRONMENT
•
Your new appliance is designed exclusively for
domestic use.
To ensure best use of your appliance,
carefully read the operating instructions
which contain a description of the appliance
and advice on storing and preserving food.
Keep this handbook for future reference.
1.
After unpacking the appliance, make sure it is
not damaged and that the door closes
properly. Any damage must be reported to the
dealer within 24 hours of delivery of the
appliance.
2.
Wait at least two hours before switching the
appliance on, in order to ensure that the
refrigerant circuit is fully efficient.
3.
Make sure installation and the electrical
connection are carried out by a qualified
technician according to the manufacturer's
instructions and in compliance with the local
safety regulations.
4.
Clean the inside of the appliance before using it.
1.Packing
The packing material is 100% recyclable and
bears the recycling symbol. Comply with the
local regulations for disposal. Keep the packing
materials (plastic bags, polystyrene parts, etc.)
out of the reach of children, as they are a
potential source of danger.
2.Scrapping/Disposal
The appliance is manufactured using recyclable
material.
This appliance is marked in compliance with
European Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical
and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
By ensuring the correct scrapping of this
appliance, you can help prevent potentially
negative consequences for the environment and
the health of persons.
The symbol on the appliance, or on the
accompanying documents, indicates that this
appliance should not be treated as domestic waste
but must be taken to a suitable collection centre
for the recycling of electrical and electronic
equipment.
When scrapping the appliance, make it unusable
by cutting off the power cable and removing the
doors and shelves so that children cannot easily
climb inside.
Scrap the appliance in compliance with local
regulations on waste disposal, taking it to a
special collection centre; do not leave the
appliance unattended even for a few days, since
it is a potential source of danger for children. For
further information on the treatment, recovery
and recycling of this appliance, contact your
competent local office, the household waste
collection service or the shop where you
purchased the appliance.
Information:
This appliance does not contain CFC (the
refrigerant circuit contains R134a) or HFC (the
refrigerant circuit contains R600a) (refer to the
rating plate inside the appliance).
Appliances with isobutane (R600a): Isobutane is
a natural gas without environmental impact but
is flammable. Therefore, make sure the
refrigerant circuit pipes are not damaged

RECOMMENDATIONS
•
During installation, make sure the appliance
does not damage the power cable.
•
Make sure the appliance is not near a heat
source.
•
To guarantee adequate ventilation, leave a
space on both sides and above the appliance
and follow the installation instructions.
•
Keep the appliance ventilation openings free.
•
Power cable modification or replacement
must only be carried out by qualified
personnel.
•
It must be possible to disconnect the
appliance from the power supply by
unplugging it or by means of a mains two-pole
switch installed upstream of the socket.
•
Make sure the voltage indicated on the
appliance rating plate corresponds to that of
your home.
•
For the water connection, use the pipe
supplied with the new appliance; do not reuse
that of the previous appliance.
•
Install and level the appliance on a floor strong
enough to take its weight and in a place
suitable for its size and use.
•
The appliance must be handled and installed
by two or more persons.
•
Be careful not to damage the floors when
moving the appliance (e.g. parquet).
•
Do not use single/multi-adapters or extension
cords.
•
Install the appliance in a dry and well-
ventilated place. The appliance is arranged for
operation in places where the temperature
comes within the following ranges, according
to the climatic class given on the rating plate.
The appliance may not work properly if it is
left for a long period at a temperature outside
the specified range.
•
Do not store or use petrol, gas or flammable
liquids in the vicinity of this or other electrical
appliances. The fumes can cause fires or
explosions.
•
Do not use mechanical, electric or chemical
means other than those recommended by the
Manufacturer to speed up the defrost
process.
•
Do not damage the appliance refrigerant
circuit pipes.
•
Do not use or place electrical appliances
inside the product if they are not of the type
expressly authorised by the Manufacturer.
•
This appliance is not designed for use by
young children or the infirm without
supervision.
•
To avoid the risk of children becoming
trapped and suffocating, do not allow them to
play or hide inside the appliance.
•
Do not swallow the contents (non-toxic) of
the ice packs (if provided).
•
Use the refrigerator compartment only for
storing fresh food and the freezer
compartment only for storing frozen food,
freezing fresh food and making ice cubes.
•
Do not store liquids in glass containers in the
freezer compartment since they may burst.
•
Do not eat ice cubes or ice lollies immediately
after taking them out of the freezer since they
may cause cold burns.
•
Before carrying out any maintenance or
cleaning operation, unplug the appliance or
disconnect the power supply.
•
All appliances equipped with an ice-maker and
water dispenser must be connected to a water
supply that delivers drinking water only (with
mains water pressure of between 0.17 and
0.81 Mpascals (1.7 and 8.1 bar)). Ice-makers
and/or water dispensers not directly
connected to the water supply must be filled
with drinking water only.
• The Manufacturer declines any liability if
the above advice and precautions are not
respected.

Switching the appliance on
1.
Insert the plug.
2.
When the appliance is plugged in, the intermittent red
indicator (
F
) lights up and the acoustic alarm sounds. This
indicates that the correct temperature for storing food has not
yet been reached inside the compartments.
3.
Press the red indicator button (
F
) to switch off the acoustic
alarm.
4.
The appliance is thus switched on, the “
Freshbox
” is on
(button (
G
) lit).
The refrigerator compartment temperature is factory-set to
5°C.
The door open alarm sounds if the door is left open for
more than 2 minutes. Press the button (F) again to switch
it off (refer to par. “Refrigerator door open alarm” in this
section).
Refrigerator compartment temperature adjustment
To adjust the temperature in the refrigerator compartment,
proceed as follows:
•
press the button (
B
) °C to select warmer temperatures;
•
press the button (
B
) °C to select colder temperatures.
Note:
The room temperature, frequency of door opening, the
introduction of hot food and incorrect positioning of the appliance
can affect the refrigerator inside temperatures, which may differ
from that indicated on the panel.
Switching the appliance off
If the appliance is not going to be used for long periods, it can be
switched off by pressing the button (
D
).
In this way, although still powered, the appliance stops, with the
inside lighting and all button lights off except the red light
associated with button (
D
). To switch the appliance on again,
press the button (
D
).
Refrigerator compartment defrosting is completely
automatic.
Refrigerator door open alarm
The product signals if door is accidentally left open for more than
2 minutes by means of an acoustic alarm, flashing of the red alarm
light associated with button (
F
) and by the inside light coming on
and going off intermittently. The alarm stops when the door is
closed. If the door has to be kept open for more than 2 minutes,
it is possible to stop the alarm by pressing button (
F
); The alarm
will sound again after 2 minutes if the door is still open.

Control panel lock
To avoid accidental selections (buttons pressed by contact with
packets and/or food, or by children) the control panel can be
locked by pressing the button (
A
) for 3 seconds.
An acoustic alarm sounds and the button lights up to indicate that
it is locked. The button remains lit while the function is activated.
With the control panel locked, no selections can be made. If any
button is pressed in this condition, an acoustic alarm and flashing
of the button will indicate lock function activated.
Note:
Button (
F
) is excluded from the control panel lock.
To unlock the control panel
press the button (
A
) for 3
seconds until the light goes off.
Storing food in the refrigerator compartment
Place the food as shown in the figure.

Notes:
•
The space between the shelves and the rear wall inside the
refrigerator ensures the free circulation of air.
•
Do not place food in direct contact with the rear wall of the
refrigerator compartment.
•
Do not place hot food in the refrigerator.
•
Store liquids in closed containers.
NB:
Storing vegetables with a high water content can cause
condensation to form on the glass shelves: this will not
affect correct appliance operation.

USING THE FRESHBOX
The appliance is equipped with a special compartment designed
for optimum storage of
Meat and Fish
.
The temperature inside the compartment (box) is kept about
3-5°C lower than the rest of the refrigerator compartment.
This enables considerably longer storage of fresh food (meat and
fish) without the need to freeze it and without altering the original
freshness and nutritional values.
Do not store fruit or vegetables in this box, since the temperature
may drop below 0°C, causing the water contained in the food to
freeze.
Temperature indicator:
• The temperature inside the box is displayed by an indicator on
the box door (
Fig.1
).
• The coloured section indicates the ideal temperature range for
storing meat and fish.
• The temperature inside the box requires approximately one
hour to stabilise.
NB:
The temperature inside the
“Freshbox”
depends on the
refrigerator compartment temperature. Therefore, if the box
temperature indicator is in the sector with press the button
(B)
° C to increase the refrigerator temperature or lower it by
means of
(B)
° C if the indicator is in the sector “° C”. The
temperature inside the
“Freshbox”
will correct itself.
Removing the box:
To use the refrigerator without the
“Freshbox”
proceed as
follows (according to the preparation of your appliance, see
Fig. 2
,
or
Fig. 3
):
1.
Remove the crisper (
Fig. 2
) or the flap (
Fig. 3
).
2.
Remove the
“Freshbox”
lid by releasing the two side clips on
the lower front (see
Fig. 4
).
3.
Remove the
“Freshbox”
.
4.
Press the button (
G
) for 3 seconds; the button light goes
off.
To reinstate the
“Freshbox”
proceed as follows:
1.
Insert the
“Freshbox”
.
2.
Fit the
“Freshbox”
lid.
3.
Insert the crisper (
Fig. 2
), or the flap (
Fig. 3
).
4.
Press the button (
G
) for 3 seconds; the button lights up.

USING THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT
The freezer compartment can also be used to
freeze fresh food.
The quantity of fresh food that can be frozen in 24 hours is
given on the rating plate.
Freezing fresh food
•
Press the freeze button
E
;
the corresponding yellow light comes on and remains lit for
the entire freezing period.
•
If your appliance is provided with a rack, position food to be
frozen as indicated in
Fig. 2
, otherwise position food as shown
in
Fig. 3
.
A
Arrange the fresh food on the rack, leaving sufficient space
around each pack for air to circulate and avoiding contact with
already frozen food
(Fig.2).
B
Place the food in the middle of the compartment ,
without it touching already frozen food, keeping a distance of
about 20 mm
(Fig. 3).
•
After approx. 24 hours, the function switches off automatically
and the yellow light of the button
(E)
goes off.
To stop the function, press the button
(E)
again.
For frozen fresh food storage times, comply with the table.
When purchasing frozen food products:
•
Make sure the packaging is not damaged, otherwise the food
may deteriorate. If the package is swollen or has damp
patches, it may not have been stored in optimum conditions
and may have started to thaw.
•
Purchase frozen food last and use thermal bags to carry it.
•
Place frozen foods in the freezer compartment as soon as you
get home.
•
Do not refreeze partially thawed food; consume it within 24
hours.
•
Avoid or reduce temperature variations to a minimum.
Respect the expiry date given on the pack.
Always follow the instructions given on the package for storing
frozen foods.
Making ice cubes
•
Fill the ice cube tray up to 2/3 with water and place it in the
freezer compartment .
•
Do not use sharp or pointed instruments to detach the tray if
it is stuck to the bottom of the compartment.
Bend the ice tray a little to remove the cubes.

APPLIANCE DEFROSTING
Power failure alarm.
It activates automatically in case of a power failure long enough to
increase the temperature in the compartments to values that do
not ensure preservation of the food. In this case the acoustic alarm
activates and the red light associated with the button (
F
) flashes.
Therefore, it is necessary to check the good condition of the food
stored in the refrigerator and freezer before using it. The alarm
can be switched off by pressing the button (
F
). In any case, the
previously set selections and operating conditions are
automatically reinstated at the end of the power failure.
Before defrosting the freezer compartment, unplug the
appliance or disconnect the power supply.
Refrigerator compartment defrosting is completely
automatic. The periodical presence of water droplets on
the rear wall inside the refrigerator compartment indicates
the automatic defrost phase. The defrost water is
automatically run into a drain hole and then into a
container where it evaporates.
To ensure constant and correct removal of the defrost water,
regularly clean the defrost water drain hole using the tool supplied
(Fig. 1).
Defrosting the compartment
Defrost the freezer compartment once or twice a year or
when the frost on the walls is excessive.
It is perfectly normal for frost to form. The quantity and speed at
which it forms depend on ambient conditions and how often the
freezer door is opened. Frost forms mainly at the top of the
compartment and does not affect correct appliance operation.
It is advisable to defrost the freezer compartment when it is nearly
empty.
•
Open the door and remove all food, placing it in a very cool
place or in a thermal bag.
•
Leave the door open to allow the frost to melt.
•
Clean the inside with a sponge soaked in lukewarm water and/or
neutral detergent. Do not use abrasive substances.
•
Rinse and dry thoroughly.
•
Put the food back in the freezer compartment.
•
Close the door.
•
Plug in the appliance again and switch it on, following the
instructions in the section operating the refrigerator
compartment.
Adjustments and selections present before switching off will
automatically be restored.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Before any cleaning or maintenance operation, unplug the
appliance or disconnect it from the power supply.
• Periodically clean the refrigerator compartment with a sponge
moistened with lukewarm water and/or neutral detergent.
Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Do not use abrasive products.
• The separators must be cleaned with a damp sponge and not
placed in water.
• Clean the inside of the freezer compartment during defrosting.
• Periodically clean the ventilation grilles and the condenser at
the rear of the appliance with a vacuum cleaner or a brush.
• Clean the outside with a soft cloth moistened with water.
Do not use abrasive pastes, scouring pads, stain-removers
(e.g. trichloroethylene, acetone) or vinegar.
Long vacation
1.
Empty the refrigerator completely.
2.
Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
3.
Defrost and clean the inside.
4.
If the appliance is not used for a long time, the door must
remain open to prevent the formation of mould, unpleasant
odours and oxidation.
5.
Clean the appliance.
•
Clean the inside of the low temperature compartment
(in models where available) during defrosting.
•
Periodically clean the inside of the refrigerator compartment
with a sponge moistened with lukewarm water and/or neutral
detergent. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive
products.
6.
Clean the outside with a moistened cloth. Do not use abrasive
pastes, scouring pads, stain-removers (e.g. acetone,
trichloroethylene) or vinegar.
Lamp replacement:
When replacing the lamp, proceed as follows:
•
Unplug the appliance from the power supply
•
Squeeze the tabs on the sides of the lamp cover and remove it.
•
Replace the lamp with one of the same power or of the max.

7.
Refit the lamp cover and wait 5 minutes before reconnecting
the appliance.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
1. The appliance does not work.
•
Is there a power failure?
•
Is the plug properly inserted in the socket?
•
Do the household electrical system protection devices
work correctly?
•
Is the power cable damaged?
2. The temperature inside the compartments is not
cold enough.
•
Are the doors properly closed?
•
Is the appliance installed near a heat source?
•
Are the air circulation grilles blocked?
•
The button (
G
) has been switched off without removing
the “Freshbox”.
3. The temperature inside the refrigerator
compartment is too cold.
•
Was the
“
Freshbox
”
removed without the button (

being switched off?
4. There is water on the bottom of the refrigerator
compartment.
•
Is the defrost water drain blocked
(refer to “appliance defrosting”)?
5. The inside light does not work.
Check point 1), and then:
•Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
To access the lamp, refer to the instructions and
diagram on the attached product sheet.
•
Replace the lamp with one of the same power or of the
max. power in watt, specified near the lamp holder.
6. Excessive frost in the compartment .
•
Is the door properly closed?
•
Is food hindering proper door closing?
7. The acoustic alarm is on and the red light of the
button (F) is flashing.
•
Has there been a prolonged power failure
(refer to “using the freshbox”)?.
8. The acoustic alarm is activated and the lights of
button (F)
and the temperature indicators (C)
are flashing:
3° + 7° C
or
4° + 7° C
or
5° + 7° C
.
•
Contact the After-sales Service.
9. The acoustic alarm is activated and the lights of
button (F)
and the temperature indicators 6° +
7° (C) are flashing.
•
Has hot food been recently placed into the
refrigerator?
•
Has the door been opened frequently in the presence
of a high ambient temperature?
•
If yes, press the button (
F
).
•
If the problem persists after having pressed the button
(
F
), contact the After-Sales Service.
Notes:
•
If the alarm conditions indicated in points 8) and 9) occur, the
appliance is able to guarantee temperatures in the
compartments that ensure safe storage of food.
In these conditions no selections or adjustments can be
made.
• Gurgling and hissing noises due to expansion in the
refrigerant circuit are normal.

Before contacting the After-sales Service:
1.
See if you can solve the problems on your own
(refer to “troubleshooting guide”).
2.
Switch the appliance on again to
see if the problem has been eliminated.
If it has not, disconnect the appliance again and
repeat the operation after one hour.
3.
If the problem persists, contact the
After-sales Service.
Specify:
•
the nature of the fault.
•
the model.
•
the Service number (the number after the
word SERVICE on the rating plate located
inside of the appliance).
•
your full address.
4.
your telephone number and area code.
Note:
If reversing of door opening is carried out by
the After-sales Service it is not covered by the
warranty.
INSTALLATION
•
Install the appliance away from heat sources. Installation in a
hot place, direct exposure to sunlight or installation near a
heat source (radiators, cookers) will increase energy
consumption and should therefore be avoided.
•
If this is not possible, the following minimum distances must
be respected:
•
30 cm from coal or oil stoves;
•
3 cm from electric and/or gas cookers.
•
Clean the inside.
•
Fit the accessories supplied.
Electrical connection
• Electrical connections must be made in compliance
with local regulations.
•
Data regarding voltage and electrical absorption are
specified on the rating plate inside the appliance.
• Earthing of the appliance is compulsory by law.
The Manufacturer declines any liability for injury to
persons or animals or damage to property due to non-
compliance with the above regulations.
•
If the plug and socket are not of the same type, have the
socket replaced by a qualified technician.
•
Do not use extension leads or multi-adapters.
Electrical disconnection
It must be possible to electrically disconnect the appliance by
unplugging it or by means of a two-pole switch installed
upstream of the socket.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
1) For Great Britain only
Warning - this appliance must be earthed
Fuse replacement
If the mains lead of this appliance is fitted with a BS 1363A
13amp fused plug, to change a fuse in this type of plug use an
A.S.T.A. approved fuse to BS 1362 type and proceed as follows:
1.
Remove the fuse cover (
A
) and fuse (
B
).
2.
Fit replacement 13A fuse into fuse cover.
3.
Refit both into plug.
Important:
The fuse cover must be refitted when changing a fuse and if the
fuse cover is lost the plug must not be used until a correct
replacement is fitted.
Correct replacement are identified by the colour insert or the
colour embossed in words on the base of the plug.
Replacement fuse covers are available from your local electrical
store.
2) For the Republic of Ireland only
The information given in respect of Great Britain will frequently
apply, but a third type of plug and socket is also used, the 2-pin,
side earth type.
3) Socket outlet / plug (valid for both countries)
If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlet, please
contact Whirlpool Service for further instruction. Please do not
attempt to change plug yourself. This procedure needs to be
carried out by a qualified Whirlpool technician in compliance
with the manufactures instructions and current standard safety
regulations.
