listening-watchesondistressfrequencies.Itwillalsobe
usedtoannounceroutineandurgentmaritimesafety
informationbroadcaststoothershipsinthearea.
DSCcallsaresentandreceivedonCH70.TheGX600D
hastworeceivers,oneofwhichisdedicatedtoCH70.
Therefore,regardlessofwhichchannelyouareoperating
on,theGX600DwillnotmissaDSCcall.

AUserMMSIisa9-digitnumberusedtoidentifyaDSC
capableRadio.Thenumberisusedtoselectivelycallother
vesselsandisissuedbyyourlocalMaritimeAuthority
(AMSAinAustralia).
NOTE: BeforeyoucanuseDSC,youmusthaveentered
yourUserMMSInumberintoyourGX600D.Ifyoudon’tyet
haveaUserMMSI,pleaseregisterwithyourlocalMaritime
AuthoritywhowillthenissueauniqueMMSInumber.

DISTRESS CALLS
To make a DSC Distress Call:
AlwaysusetheRedDISTRESSbuttonontheGX600D’s
frontpanel.TomakeanyotherDSCcall,usetheCALL
buttononthemicrophone.
MAKING A DISTRESS CALL:
1.OpentheRedDISTRESScover.
2.BrieypresstheDISTRESSkey.Thedisplayshowsthe
‘Natureofdistress’Menulist.
3.Usethe or keystoselectthenatureofthedistress.
Thelistincludes:Undened,Fire,Flooding,Collision,
Grounding,Listing,Sinking,Disabled,Abandoning,
PiracyandManOverboard.
4.Withthecorrectdistressitemselected,pressandhold
the DISTRESSkeyfor5seconds.Thedisplaywillash
andtheradiowillcountfrom5downto1,beepingat
eachcount.
NOTE:Tocancelthedistresscall,releasetheDISTRESS
keybeforethecountdowniscompleted.Theradiowill
returntonormaloperationonCH16.
5.Whenthecountdowniscomplete,theDISTRESScallwill
besentonChannel70(whetherCH70isbusyornot).
Afterthedistresscallissent,theradioswitchestoCH16
andthedisplayshows‘DISTRESS’and‘WaitAck…’to
indicate it is now in the distress mode and is waiting for
anacknowledgementfromanotherradio.
Whileindistresscallmode,theGX600DissetonCH16
andtheusercannotchangechannels.Thekeysonthe
microphonearedisabledandallfrontpanelkeysexceptfor
SQLaredisabled.IfthePTTispressed,theradiotransmits
onCH16onHIpower.
Ifanacknowledgementisnotreceived,thedistresscall
willberesentataround4minuteintervals(whetherCH70
isbusyornot)–foraslongastheradioremainsinthe
distresscallmode.
NOTE: A distresscallcanalsoberesentimmediatelyatany
timebyholdingtheDISTRESSkeyagainfor5seconds.
ThedistresscallmodeiscancelledwhenaDISTRESS
ACKNOWLEDGEisreceivedorthe16keyispressed.
TheradiothenreturnstonormaloperationonCH16.
NOTE: ADistressAcknowledgeresponseisgenerallysent
byacoastalbasestation.
RECEIVING A DISTRESS CALL
When a Distress Call is received:
IfAutochannelintheSetupMenuistoONtheGX600D
switchestoCH16andgeneratesanaudibleDistressAlert
alarm.
IfAutoChannelissettoofftheGX600Dwillask“setto
CH16?”presstheCALLbuttontoacceptandswitchto
CH16orpressthe– keytostopthealarmandremainon
thecurrentchannel.
Theradio’sdisplaythenalternatesbetweenthenameand
positionofthevesselindistressandthetimeandnature
oftheemergencyat3secondintervals:
Press the –keytocancelthealarmbutcontinuedisplaying
theemergencyinformation.
