Safety precautions
• Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries. Only use
approved batteries of the same type (rechargeable),
otherwise the battery casings may be destroyed (danger-
ous). See table on page 7.
• The handset’s battery compartments feature the following
diagrams:
g Insert rechargeable batteries correctly in
accordance with polarity symbols.
h Operate battery type in accordance with these
operating instructions.
• Never use non-Siemens charging units as these can dam-
age the batteries.
• Batteries heat up during charging - this is a normal occur-
rence and is not dangerous.
• The functionality of medical equipment can be affected by
the handset.
• The handset can cause an unpleasant humming sound in
hearing aids.
• Do not install the base station in bathrooms or showers.
• Do not operate the telephone in environments where
there is risk of explosion (e.g. paint shops).
• Always include the operating instructions when passing
your handset on to third parties.
• The batteries and handset should be disposed of in an en-
vironmentally-friendly manner.

Preparing the handset
Contents of the package
Gigaset 3000 Comfort enhanced handset, two batteries,
attachment clip, operating instructions.
Inserting the batteries
• Insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity – see fig-
ure on left.
• Slide the cover approx. 3 mm into the battery compart-
ment and push gently forwards until it clicks into place.
•To o p e n the cover, press the grooved area on the cover
and slide back.
• Never use ordinary (non-rechargeable) batteries.
Only use approved batteries of the same type
(rechargeable), otherwise the battery casings
may be destroyed (dangerous). See table on
page 7.
• The handset’s battery compartments feature the

Charging the batteries
The batteries supplied are not charged. To charge the bat-
teries, insert the handset either into the base station or the
Gigaset 3000L charging unit – you will hear the confirmation
beep. The charging operation is indicated by a flashing LED
on the handset:

Always insert two batteries and only use batteries of the
same type/from the same manufacturer.

• Initially charge the batteries thoroughly; we recom-
mend charging the batteries for at least 16 hours with-
out interruption – irrespective of the charging status
icon.
• Once the first charging operation is complete, you can
replace the handset in the base station after any call.
Charging is controlled electronically. This ensures opti-
mum charging and prolongs battery life.
• The batteries heat up during charging.
• The battery charging status is only correctly displayed af-
ter uninterrupted charging/discharging.

Push the clip onto the back of the handset until the protru-
sions slot into place.
Activating/deactivating the handset
Press the end call key for 1 second.
Activating/deactivating keypad protection
If you activate keypad protection, nothing happens when
you press a key.
Press the talk key D to answer an incoming call – keypad
protection is automatically deactivated for the call.

teries and placing it in the base station/charging unit.

Registering the handset
You can change the display language (see page 21). After
doing this, switch your handset off and then on again.
You must register a new handset at the base station before
you can make any telephone calls. When you switch on your
handset, the message 5HJLVWHU"

Handsfree talking
Handsfree talking, with the loudspeaker switched on, offers
the following advantages:
– other parties can listen in and participate in the conversa-
tion
– your hands are free, you can place the handset on any con-
venient surface or, holding down the handsfree talking
button, place it in the base station/charging unit
– the dial tone, for example, can be heard when dialling with-
out lifting the handset to the ear.
• Handsfree talking during a call
VActivate handsfree talking.
To set the volume:
press the handsfree talking button V
once more.
DChange from handsfree talking to talking
with the handset.
End the call.
• Handsfree talking when dialling/answering a call
VPress the handsfree talking key instead of
the talk keyD.
Transferring a call, making an enquiry call
Siemens base stations allow you to transfer an external
call to another handset or to hold a call while making an
internal enquiry call.

e.g. sDial the internal number.
When the user answers:
•transfer the call: press the end call key .
•end the enquiry call: press 4 to revert to the caller
placed on hold.
When handsfree talking is activated, the handsfree
talking buttonV is lit. You can place the handset on the
table in front of you, for example.

Redial
Manual redial
You can access the last five call numbers dialled.

DStart the dial operation.
Automatic redial
The handset redials the last call number.

Directories
With the directory
-, you can store up to 100 call num-
bers and then dial them at the push of a button.
You can store prefixes for telephone companies and fre-
quently used call numbers in the network access list M
(see also Network access support, page 16).
Apart from the entry operation, using the directory and the
network access list is identical.
Storing a call number

Dialling from the directory
- / MDisplay the directory/network access list.

DPress the talk key to start dialling.
– When entering the number, you can insert a pause with
the recall key 4 or a number from the network access
list via the supplementary menu 9.
– You can, for example, store the number of a company’s
switchboard so that you only have to dial the extension
when making a call.
– You can also save incoming or outgoing call numbers dur-
ing a call.

Entering names
To enter names, you can choose letters, digits and symbols
with the appropriate key:
Press the appropriate key repeatedly or hold it down:
Upper/lowercase:
The first letter of the name is written automatically in
upper case, the letters immediately afterwards are written
in lower case.
Manual shift to upper/lower case for one
character.
Controlling the cursor:
 Move the cursor to the left or right or to
the end of the word/line in the next line
(press briefly or hold down).
;< Scroll up or down one line.
Deleting a character:
:The character to the left of the cursor is
deleted (press briefly or hold down).
Inserting characters:
Characters are always inserted to the left of the cursor.

Network access support
• Linking call numbers
This function allows you to merge two parts of a number.
M< Open the network access list and select
an entry.
9Open the supplementary menu.
=Confirm 'LVSOD\1XPEHU – the number is
displayed.
e.g. PEither enter the user’s call number or
open the directory and select a number.
DStart the dial operation – the two parts of
the call numbers are dialled one after the
other.
• Speed dialling from the network access list
– You can save 10 numbers (0-9) in the call-by-call list for
speed dialling. These speed dialling numbers (0-9)
must be entered before the name,
e.g. "1 Name".
– Hold down the relevant digit key (0-9) to display the
number saved.
Prerequisite: speed dialling number is saved!
e.g. ¸Hold down the relevant digit key – e.g. 1,
and the number saved under the name
"1 Name" is displayed.
e.g. PEnter the user’s call number or open the
directory and select the number.
DStart the dial operation – the two parts of
the call numbers are dialled, one after the

Unanswered calls are also, for example, stored in the caller

New entries in the caller list are indicated by the display
symbol ,.

Audio settings
Handset/loudspeaker volume
You can set the handset volume to any of three levels and
the loudspeaker to any of five levels – even during a call!

– You can choose between 5 ringer volumes, the
crescendo ring (increasing volume) and
ringer off (=0).
– You can choose between 10 ringer melodies.

charging unit; error beep (4 short tones) following an in-
correct entry.
