Assembly of Watering Can Fantasy Fountain
Unpack all items from box. Read and save instructions. You should have the following items:
Watering Can Faucet Clear Plastic Tube(s)* Pump Brochure Instructions Hummingbird* Butterfly*
1. Your Fantasy Fountain is easily assembled by following instructions. Watering can is authentic and will have
imperfections that add to weathered look. As with any fountain, never place on any surface which may be
damaged by water.
2. Remove tie from cord folded inside watering can. Carefully remove the twist-tie from around pump. The outside
of watering can has a hole from which plug emerges. Carefully pull cord (so as not to interfere with internal
parts) to desired length in order to reach electrical outlet you plan to use. Do not plug it into outlet at this time.
(Any excess cord can be stored inside watering can.)
3. Fill watering can with water approximately halfway up side of gray housing, making sure to totally submerse
pump but do not fill above bolt hole in rear handle as water will leak out, making it appear as though can is
leaking from bottom. An inexpensive one-gallon bottle of drinking water is recommended. Do not fill above
bolt. (The lower the water level in fountain, the higher the volume of “tinkle” from the falling water.) Keep
water level above pump at all times but never as high as the bolt hole.
4. Inside watering can (approximately in the center) is a gray plastic tube. Place clear plastic tube (end with no
holes) into gray connector tube. Clear tube should be straight up and down. It can be straightened by
sliding pump (backwards, forwards & sideways) slightly inside gray housing.
5. * Locate tiny hole approximately 2 inches from top of clear plastic tube. This hole was drilled at an angle
downward into clear tube. This angle is important. Hold hummingbird by beak and place beak into downward
angled hole so that tail of hummingbird is higher than beak. (If body of hummingbird is below level of hole,
water will run down beak and onto body. This will damage hummingbird and cause water to flow onto floor.)
When removing bird, maintain this angle so as not to enlarge hole. An extra tube is included WITHOUT a bird
hole for outdoor use, bird and butterfly are too delicate for outdoor areas where sun, wind or rain can damage
them.
6. Make sure faucet is closed by turning handle clockwise until tight. Place faucet on top of clear plastic tube.
(On Deluxe models, position faucet so that it is opposite hummingbird*.) A slight downward pressure is needed
to seat faucet on tube.
7. Plug fountain into electrical outlet. Water will flow from faucet. Adjust faucet so that flow of water is uniform
around clear tube. If flow of water is not uniform around clear tube, move faucet slightly up or down, left or
right, until flow is completely covering tube. If flow is still not correct; remove faucet, twist clear tube a ¼ turn,
and readjust faucet. During shipping, the “trap door” of pump may be jarred slightly open, causing the pump to
lose power; should this occur (water will not reach faucet), simply squeeze the front and back (not sides) of the
pump with fingers, snapping it back into place. Cord should have some slack so it drapes slightly below outlet.
(Always use a grounded electrical outlet; if you do not have this type of outlet, use adapter between outlet and
plug.).
8. * Butterfly comes with two small pieces of Velcro dots. Use dots to attach butterfly. Separate them; remove
backing from one dot and push onto watering can wherever you want butterfly positioned. Remove backing from
second dot and attach carefully to belly of butterfly. Wait 24 hours! Then push body of butterfly onto first dot
with a slight pressure.
9. You have finished the assembly of your Fantasy Fountain. Enjoy the enchanting sound and mystical illusion.
Always remember to empty and rinse with warm water periodically to prevent cloudy water due to mineral build
up. Constant topping off will cause excessive mineral build-up as evaporation occurs. After the first five days
of use, empty water, rinse and refill in order to wash out mineral leaching from “newness”. Always replace
with fresh water at first sign of cloudiness.
10. To prevent damage, do not let pump run dry. Always remove faucet when you move the fountain. Water quality
varies in different geographic locations. Use of water with a high mineral content (hard water) may void your
warranty. One gallon of bottled drinking water is recommended and will greatly reduce necessary
cleaning. (Do not use distilled water.)

Fantasy Fountain
by Universal Home & Garden
Do’s and Don’ts
Do use inexpensive bottled drinking water.
Do check level of water frequently. Water evaporates during use.
Do empty, thoroughly rinse, and refill regularly or whenever water begins to cloud.
Do replace water periodically instead of merely topping off to avoid mineral build up due to evaporation.
Do unplug and empty water if fountain is going to be turned off for any length of time. Make sure to remove faucet
and bird (on deluxe model only) before moving fountain.
Avoid damaging internal parts or using chemicals.
Do change water immediately if algae begin to grow in fountain, add one drop of bleach to freshly changed water.
Do take care in handling bird and butterfly (on deluxe model only); they are very fragile.
Do remove and rinse clear plastic tube and inside of faucet opening with white vinegar and water solution to remove
mineral scales. Salts form which clog water flow and cause splashing.
Do leave some slack in cord so it drapes slightly below outlet. (Always use a grounded electrical outlet; if you do not
have this type of outlet, use adapter between outlet and plug.)
Don’t use distilled water; it is highly corrosive. Don’t use water with high mineral content.
Don’t place your Fantasy Fountain on any surface that could be damaged by water.
Don’t cut cord; don’t cut off round grounding leg of electrical plug.
Don’t move fountain while brass faucet and bird (on deluxe model only) are connected to clear plastic tube; remove
these before relocating fountain, remove bird (on deluxe model only) by pulling beak out of plastic tube at upward
angle.
Don’t allow children to play with your Fantasy Fountain or any parts thereof. Your fountain and its parts are not
toys. The hummingbird beak (on deluxe model only) is very sharp and could cause a puncture wound if mishandled.
Don’t stretch cord across walkways or any area of traffic where people or pets could trip.
Don’t run pump dry; damage will occur and warranty will be voided.
Don’t wiggle clear plastic tube back and forth. This could cause damage.
Don’t pick fountain up by faucet or plastic tube.
Don’t open handle on faucet; water will run out back of faucet.
Don’t drink from fountain.
Don’t plug cord into power until faucet is securely on top of clear plastic tube.
Don’t use outside in freezing weather. Don’t use bird and butterflies (on deluxe model only) outdoors where weather
and sun can damage them.
Don’t damage inside or outside of fountain by using chemicals.
Don’t allow foreign matter (i.e. leaves and dirt) into fountain; it will jam pump.
Your Fantasy Fountain is equipped with a submersible, magnet-driven, centrifugal pump, powered by a watertight syncro motor. It is designed for
aquariums and can be run constantly. For maximum trouble-free service, follow instructions and observe precautions. Most fountain problems result from
improper use or care.
SAFETY NORMS: Before handling the Fantasy Fountain, be sure it is not connected to electrical power. Do not install if cord or pump is in any way
damaged. This product complies with current norms in safety standards. Voltage level (120V in U.S.) is imprinted on pump; it must correspond to current
being used. Be sure cord loops below electrical outlet to form a “Drip Loop” so water cannot run down cord into outlet.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of electrical shock, connect only to properly grounded, grounding type receptacle. The National Electric Code and many
local codes require that a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) be installed in a branch circuit supplying fountain equipment rated above 15 volts. GFCIs
are available through electrical and building supply stores, catalogs and contractors, and many new homes may already be equipped with a GFCI due to local
codes. Extension cords are not recommended for outdoor installations as the plug connection could become damp and cause electric shock and serious
injury. For outdoor installation use an approved and properly grounded outdoor junction box.
Do not place your fingers or any other objects into the pump openings while it is operating or when plugged in; impeller rotates at high speed and will strike
any object inserted into its path, damaging the impeller and possibly causing injury.
Water is discharged from the pump at high pressure. Avoid looking closely into the pump when it is started since possible eye injury could occur.
