The AXS-200/350 OLTS and AXS-200/360 Power Meter features a pass/fail
LED indicator and lets you set your own thresholds for loss measurements.
It facilitates data management and enables data transfer via Bluetooth or
USB connection. It also offers complete test report, including certification
of the link with pass/fail information.

3 Using the Loss Certification
Wizard
The Loss Certification Wizard allows you to enter all the information
required to take measurements. It helps you to go through the different
steps in order.
Note: You can exit the wizard at anytime by pressing Exit Certification.
To use the Loss Certification Wizard:
1. Press , and then select Loss Certification Wizard.
2. Using the up/down arrows, select
Fiber type and press .
3. In the list, select the fiber type and
press .
4. Select the threshold type you
intend to use (see Setting Pass/Fail
Thresholds on page 16).
5. Select a transmission standard.
6. Press Next.
7. Select Length measurement
method and press .
8. Select one of the following
options:
³ Manual entry: when you
know the cable length.
³ Sheath marking: when you
want to use the provided
marks on the cable sheath to
evaluate the actual length.
9. Press and press Next.

10. If necessary, perform a reference
measurement by pressing .
11. Press and use the up/down
arrows to select the number of
reference jumpers used for
referencing and press again.
12. Connect the units as shown on
screen (for more details you can
see Referencing Your Power Meter
to a Source on page 21).
13. Press Next.
14. Press and use the up/down
arrows to select the wavelength
for which you want to set a
reference, and press again.
15. Press Set Reference.
16. Repeat steps 14 and 15 to set a
reference for other wavelengths.
17. Press Next.
18. Enter the cable name and then the
fiber identification parameters (for
more information see Setting
Autonaming Scheme on page 28).
19. Press Next.

20. Select the measurement unit to
used for the cable length.
Note: According to the length measurement
method you have selected at step 7
you either enter the length of the cable
or the beginning and the end markings
of the cable sheath.
21. Enter the cable length.

parameters (for more information
see Defining the Job Information
on page 20).
You are now ready to make
measurements.

4 Measuring Power or Loss
Nulling the Offsets
Temperature and humidity variations affect the performance of electronic
circuits and optical detectors. Nulling the offsets eliminates these effects.
Your unit has been designed not to require offset nulling under normal
operation, but you should perform it whenever environmental conditions
change significantly or when measuring very low power values.
By default, when the unit detects a significant change in temperature or
humidity, it displays a message requesting you to perform an offset nulling.
This feature can be deactivated from the Power Meter Configuration
pane, refer to Deactivating the Offset Nulling Message on page 15.
To perform an offset nulling:
1. Press , select Power Meter,
and then Instrument View.
2. Using the arrows next to the
function keys (F1/F2/F3), display
the Offset Nulling tab.
3. Press the function key
corresponding to Offset Nulling.
4. Place the protective cap on your
power meter detector.
5. Press or Start.
IMPORTANT
Light must not reach the detector when nulling offsets; always use a
protective cap.

Defining a List of Favorite Wavelengths
Defining a List of Favorite Wavelengths
You must put the wavelengths you want to use on a list of favorite
wavelengths. Specifications are guaranteed for calibrated wavelengths
only. For other wavelengths, the unit will determine values based on the
calibrated wavelengths (3-point interpolation).
To add a wavelength to the power meter list:
1. Press , select Power Meter,
and then Configuration.
2. From the Power Meter tab, select
Item, and press .
All the wavelengths available in
the power meter are followed by
PM=Yes.
3. If you are satisfied with the list,
press .
OR
If you want to add a wavelength,
close the list, select New
Wavelength, and enter a value.
The new value appears in the
Item list followed by PM=Yes.
