GENERAL
OPERATION
TheDualPolewithAuxBackupsystemisthepowersourcetoaDC/DCconvertercalledaTrailChargerthatis
locatedinsideoroutsidethebatterybox.TheTrailChargerisapoweramplifierthatmaximizesthecharging
voltagesothattheliftgatebatteriesarekeptataveryfullstateofchargeandtheliftgateoperationisfaultless
andnotimpactedbydischargedbatteries.Bothofthesesystemsrequirenointeractionfromthedriver–as
thereislogicbuiltintothesystemthatallowsthemtofunctioninthemosteffectivemanner.
TheDualPolewithAuxBackupsystemisdesignedtoallowthemaximumflexibilityforfleetswithtrailersthat
are equipped with
liftgates
By utilizing the Dual Pole with Aux Backup there are now two power source options
are
equipped
with
liftgates
.
By
utilizing
the
Dual
Pole
with
Aux
Backup
,
there
are
now
two
power
source
options
tochargetheliftgatebatteriesfromthetractor.Themostoptimalwayistouseadualpolestingercord.
WheneveradualpolestingercordisconnectedtotheDualPolewithAuxBackup,ayellowLEDlightwill
illuminateonthedualpolenoseboxindicatingthesystemisoperationalandthatpowerisbeingdirectedtothe
liftgatebatteries.Ifthetractorisnotequippedwithadualpolestingercord,orthestingercordisnot
functioningproperly,theDualPolewithAuxBackupwillutilizethe7wayauxiliarycircuit(Aux–bluecenterpin
onsevenway)asthepowersource.WhenpowerfromtheAuxcircuitisavailable(theAuxcircuitiskeyswitch
controlled)agreenLEDlightwillilluminateonthedualpolenoseboxindicatingthattheAuxcircuitisavailable
asapowersource.Ifthe DualPolewithAuxBackupisoperatingoffoftheAuxcircuit,thecontrolmodulewill

totherightofthegrommet.Theunitmustalsobe
mountedwiththeplugpointeddown(6o’clock).
Note:Besurethatthescrewswillnotinterferewith
thebatteriesinthebox.

D. Unplugthepackard connectorinthepositivewireoftheyellowLEDthatconnectstothedualpole
positive.Checkthevoltageofthepackard connectorthatisstillconnectedtothedualpolepositive.
Thisshouldbethesameassourcevoltage.Ifyes,andthegroundwireoftheyellowLEDappearstobe
connectedcorrectlywithnodamage,continuetothenextstep.Ifno,thereisaproblembetweenthe
packard
connector and the dual pole positive or the ground wire of the yellow LED Repair or replace
packard
connector
and
the
dual
pole
positive
or
the
ground
wire
of
the
yellow
LED
.
Repair
or
replace
wiringasneeded.
E. DisconnecttheyellowLEDfromtheconnectionsinthenosebox.Connecta12voltpowersourcetothe
lightandcheckoperation.Iftheyellowlightdoesnotcomeon,replacetheyellowLED.Ifthelightdoes
comeone,retraceboththepositiveandnegativewiringfromthelightbacktothepowersourceto
determinetheproblem.

3. Makesurethesingleordualpolestingercordisdisconnectedfromthecombinationnosebox.Pluginthe7wa y
cablefromthetractorreceptacletothe trailerreceptaclemakesurethatthetractorisrunning.Thegreenand
theyellowLEDshouldilluminate,showingthatthecombinationnoseboxhaspowerfromthe7wayauxpin.If
yes,continuetostep4.Ifgreenilluminatesandtheyellowdoesnot,skiptostep3J.Ifneithergreenoryellow
illuminate,continuetostep1A.
A. Unplugthe7waycablefromthetrailer.Checkthevoltagebetweentheauxpinandthegroundpin,this
shouldbethesameasthetractorbatteryvoltage.Ifyes,plugthe7waycablebackintothetrailerand
continuetothenextstep.Ifno,checkthetruck’s7waycircuitandensurethatthecircuitmeetsthe
O.E.M.’ sspecifications,thenstartatstep3again.
B. Plugthe7waycablebackintothetrailer.Checkthevoltagebetweentheauxpin(B)andthegroundpin
(D)onthebackofthe7wayreceptacle,shouldbeclosetotractorvoltage.Ifyes,continuetothenext

F. Checkthevoltagebetweentherelay85terminal(H85)andthedualpolereceptacleground(M),should
beclosetotractorvoltage.Ifyes,continuetothenextstep.Ifno,repairorreplacethe#4wire,then
startatstep3again.
G. Unplugthepackard connectorinthepositivewireofthegreenLEDthatconnectstotherelay(H)85
terminal.Checkthevoltageofthepackard connectorthatisstillconnectedtothe relay(H)85terminal.
Thisshouldbeclosetotractorvoltage.Ifyes,andthegroundwireofthegreenLEDappearstobe
connectedcorrectlywithnodamage,continuetothenextstep.Ifno,thereisaproblembetweenthe
packard connectorandthe7wa yauxpin(B)orthegroundwireoftheyellowLED.Repairorreplace
wiringasneeded.
