USER GUIDE
Your Autostopcock unit has been designed to make the isolating of the mains water as easy as using
a light switch and provides three essential Safety Detection Systems. It is battery operated using
a standard Duracell Alkaline PP3 battery or similar and means you don’t need to combine mains
electricity and water.
The maintenance of the unit is limited to changing the battery, which has a typical life expectancy of
three years. Approximately twenty eight days before the battery expires your AutoStopCock unit will
sound a loud bleep every five seconds warning that the battery needs to be changed.
To replace the battery remove the two screws securing the face plate, open the unit and remove the
old battery. Replace with a new Duracell Alkaline PP3 or similar and refit the face plate. No resetting of
the unit is necessary.
Once you have replaced the battery check the operation of the unit. This is easily done by leaving the
cold water tap in the kitchen on and then switching the unit OFF and ON. The water will flow and cease
in conjunction with the switch being operated.
LEAK DETECTION
One of the key features of Autostopcock is detecting leaks by monitoring the flow of water in the
incoming mains water pipe. Any periods of constant water flow exceeding the factory set maximum
(user specified) will cause the water to be shut OFF. To reset the system push the water switch OFF,
then back ON. This should only be done after a thorough investigation and when all necessary
repairs to the water system have been completed.
FREEZE DETECTION
The Autostopcock control unit contains a thermostat which continuously monitors the ambient
temperature. It is factory set to turn the water OFF at 3-4 degrees C (36-38 deg F).
If the water is ON (normal position) and for some reason your heating fails or for any other reason
your home gets colder than 4 degrees C, your Autostopcock will switch the water OFF and the L.C.D.
display will show a flashing OFF. This indicates that the unit has automatically switched the mains
water OFF. If the temperature rises above 4 degrees C (38 deg. F) the Autostopcock will not switch
ON again until it is reset by switching to OFF then ON again. This is a safety feature which allows a
thorough check for damaged pipework to be completed.
VACANT PROPERTY DETECTION
Another important feature provided by your Autostopcock is vacant property detection. This
safeguard monitors the water flow and turns it OFF after any inactive period exceeding 72hrs. This will
be indicated by OFF flashing in the LCD display. The water can be reset by switching to OFF then ON
again.
OVER-RIDE
If you require constant water flow for more than the factory set maximum time (such as for watering
the garden) switch the control unit to OVER-RIDE, this will give a maximum 1 hour of constant water
flow without triggering the Leak Detection Shut Off.
SELF EXERCISING
In the ON position (which is the normal operating position) it may, in a domestic situation, be
sometime before it is switched OFF. As with most stopcocks and the associated valves, regular
operation is necessary to avoid any build-up of lime scale on the moving parts which may render them
faulty.
The Autostopcock unit will automatically self-exercise the valve every 48 hours, i.e. it will very briefly
switch OFF and ON twice. After this process it will continue to operate in the ON position. This enables
the valve to stay operational.
