This chapter describes how to read the manuals supplied with the machine, names and functions of

components, and supported ink and media, etc.

Before You Start

How to Read the Manuals

This manual is for both RICOH Pro L5130/L5160 and RICOH Pro L5130e/L5160e.

For RICOH Pro L5130/L5160, this manual is written under the assumption that the firmware has been

updated to the latest version. Firmware updates for the machine should be performed by a customer

engineer. Contact your service representative.

Symbols used in the manuals

This manual uses the following symbols:

Indicates points to pay attention to when using the machine, and explanations of likely causes of media

misfeeds, damage to media, or loss of data. Be sure to read these explanations.

Indicates supplementary explanations of the machine's functions, and instructions on resolving user

errors.

About Operating Environments

Conditions for Installation Locations

• Keep the machine away from humidity and dust. Otherwise a fire or an electric shock might

occur.

• Do not place the machine on an unstable or tilted surface. If it topples over, an injury might

occur.

• Make sure the room where you are using the machine is well ventilated and spacious. Good

ventilation is especially important when the machine is used heavily.

• Do not obstruct the machine's vents. Doing so risks fire caused by overheated internal

components.

The following is the recommended range for the operating environment:

• Temperature: 15–30°C (59–86°F) (Recommended range: 20–25°C (68–77°F))

• Humidity: 35–80% (Recommended range: 40–60%)

• Altitude: 2,000 m (approx. 6,561.7 ft.) or less

Place the machine on a horizontal surface where the height difference is 5 mm or less.

Place the machine in a stable place where the floor is strong enough to withstand a load of 1,800

N/m

2

or more.

If the machine is placed somewhere where the conditions are different from those recommended, a

failure may occur. Avoid the following environments when locating the machine:

• Low temperature and humidity or high temperature and humidity

• Places exposed to direct sunlight

• Places close to heaters, air conditioners, or humidifiers

• Places subject to frequent strong vibration

• Places with poor ventilation

• Dusty areas

• Places close to an oil heater or machine generating ammonia, such as a diazo copy machine

Precautions for users of ultrasonic-type humidifiers

Do not use an ultrasonic-type humidifier near this product.

Chlorine or mineral components atomized by an ultrasonic-type humidifier may adhere to the

electronic components inside the product, causing it to malfunction.

Space Required for Installation

Ensure enough space around the machine for installation. The space shown below is necessary for

operating the machine and for work done by a service engineer.

About Moving the Machine

Relocation of the machine should be performed by a customer engineer. Contact your service

representative if you need to relocate the machine.

About Long Term Storage of the Machine

When not using the machine for a week or more, perform nozzle maintenance before storing the

machine.

For details about how to perform nozzle maintenance, see page 202 "Performing nozzle

maintenance".

Note the following:

• Do not turn off the power. The auto-maintenance function will not work properly.

• If the machine is to be left unused for a long time, check that there are sufficient reserves in the ink

cartridge, nozzle cleaning cartridge and flushing liquid cartridge, and that the waste ink bottle has

enough spare capacity. If the ink or other cartridges run out or the waste ink bottle becomes full,

the auto-maintenance function will not work properly. If the auto-maintenance function fails to work

properly, problems, such as nozzle clogging due to a dried-out print head and white ink

precipitation may occur, causing a malfunction.

• If you do not use the machine for a long period of time, always check if the nozzles are clogged by

printing a nozzle check pattern. Perform head cleaning before printing as necessary.

• If you do not use the machine for a long period of time, printing may not be performed normally

even if head cleaning is performed multiple times. If any nozzles are stilled clogged, see

page 201 "When You Want to Clear Nozzle Clogging".

Contact your service representative if any accessories are missing or damaged.

• When cleaning the ink-station or the heads, or replacing the cleaning cartridge, make sure to

wear the attached goggles.

• When performing maintenance on the machine, make sure to wear the attached gloves.

• The supplied gloves are consumables. If they are damaged or lost, use polythene gloves

instead.

For RICOH Pro L5130/L5160, ONYX Rip Center is included on the USB flash drive. Make sure to

connect the USB hardware key to your computer when using ONYX Rip Center. If the USB hardware

key is not connected during operation, the software does not operate properly.

For RICOH Pro L5130e/L5160e, you can use ColorGATE Productionserver. ColorGATE

Productionserver can be downloaded from the ColorGATE support site (https://support.colorgate.com)

after user registration.

• RIP software converts image data into a RIP file so that it is suitable for printing. For details about

how to install the RIP software, see RIP Settings Guide.

Open this cover when setting media, dealing with media misfeeds, or cleaning the platen.

2. Right cover

Open this cover when doing maintenance work such as cleaning the caps or replacing the cleaning cartridge,

etc.

4. Media holding lever (front)

A lever to hold media on the feeding surface. Use this lever when setting media or dealing with media

misfeeds, etc. The media holding lever (front) and media holding lever (back) work in conjunction with each

other.

5. Waste ink bottle

Accumulates discharged waste ink from head cleaning, etc. To replace the waste ink bottle, see page 261

"Replacing a Waste Ink Bottle".

6. Roll-up switch

Changes the rolling direction of the media. When this switch is turned off, the media is not rolled up.

7. Roll core holder

Use to set the roll core and roll up printed roll media.

8. Media cutter

Cuts media. See page 112 "Cutting Media".

9. Media output location

Outputs printed media.

10. Left cover

Open this cover when cleaning the underside of the carriage for the nozzle surface of the print heads, media

sensor, etc.

11. Ink cartridge

Set the ink cartridges of each color correctly.

12. Ink indicator

Stays lit when the ink cartridges are not set correctly or unlocked. Also, the LED stays lit to notify when an ink

cartridge is empty.

13. Attention light (option)

Notifies of errors during printing such as media misfeeds or media replacement by lighting or flashing.

Prevents overheating.

2. Ethernet port

Port for connecting an Ethernet interface cable.

3. Pre-heater cover

Open this cover when setting media or cleaning the pre-heater. There are media input locations and a media

sensor inside of this cover.

4. Roll holder

Use to set roll media.

5. Roll feed unit

Pull out when setting or replacing media.

6. Media support

Use to place media temporarily when setting heavy media.

7. Handle

Use when pulling out the roll feed unit.

8. Media holding lever (back)

9. Power inlet 2

A power inlet for supplying power to the machine. Connect the included power cord to the power socket.

10. Power inlet 1

A power inlet for supplying power to the pre-heater and cure heater. Connect the included power cord to the

power socket.

11. Power supply switch

Turn off the power supply switch to enter Off mode. See page 33 "Saving Energy".

12. Main power switch

To operate the machine, the main power switch must be on. If it is off, turn the switch on. See page 32

"Turning On the Power".

13. Media sensor

Detects the presence of media.
