This guide describes the EXPLORER
TM
Wireless Keyboard for
the EXPLORER
®
2000 Digital Home Communications
Terminal. The Wireless Keyboard is specifically designed to
interface with the EXPLORER 2000 terminal.
See the components diagram in the EXPLORER 2000 Terminal
Front Panel section of this guide for information about basic
functions for using the EXPLORER 2000 terminal front panel
controls.
The procedures in this guide include information for basic
keyboard use. For instructions on complete utilization of the
keyboard’s functions, including email, contact your cable
company for your local operational information.
Your compact Wireless Keyboard is an optional accessory that
directly interfaces with your EXPLORER
2000 terminal.
Offering full size typing keys, the Wireless Keyboard allows
for easy and comfortable use.
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for optimal
utilization of your keyboard.

Cleaning the Equipment
Use a damp cloth to clean this equipment. Do not use either a
liquid cleaner or an aerosol cleaner to clean this equipment.
Do not use a magnetic/static dust removal device.
CAUTION:
Do not place a magnet or any type of magnetic/static
dust removal device, such as a duster, on or near this
equipment. Magnetic/static devices may affect the
operation of this equipment.

Place this equipment on a stable surface when storing. The
surface must support the size and weight of this equipment.

Avoid personal injury and damage to this equipment.
Placing this equipment on an unstable surface may
cause it to fall.

Do not open the cover of this equipment. If you open the
cover, your warranty will be void. Refer all servicing to
qualified personnel only. Contact your cable company for
instructions.
Power Sources
A label on this equipment indicates the correct power source
for this equipment. Use only (2) AA alkaline batteries in this
equipment.
Damage that Requires Service
For damage that requires service, contact your cable company.
Refer service to qualified personnel when any of the following
occurs:
Liquid enters the equipment
A heavy object falls on the equipment
There is exposure to rain or water
If you drop or damage the equipment
Operation is not normal (the instructions describe the
proper operation).
Upon completion of any service or repairs to this keyboard,
ask the service technician to perform safety checks to
determine that the equipment is in proper operating condition.

Proper Use of Keyboard
Continuous Use
Some studies have suggested that long periods of typing,
improper work environment, incorrect work habits and/or
problems in your personal health may be linked to injuries.
These injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, and
tenosynonvitis.
WARNING:
Continuous use of a keyboard may cause Repetitive
Stress Injuries or related injuries. Please read the
important information in this guide to reduce your
risk of injury. If you experience any aching, numb-
ing, or tingling in your arms, wrists, hands, or fingers
you should promptly consult a qualified health
professional.
Comfort Guidelines
The following guidelines may reduce straining your arms,
wrists, and hands when typing. Please also review
illustrations in this section for correct and incorrect positioning
of arms, wrists, and hands.

Guidelines for Keyboarding
Refer to the following guidlines when using your keyboard.
Position your elbows near your body in a relaxed posture.
Keep your thumbs and fingers in a relaxed, natural position.
Maintain a straight wrist position.
Avoid resting your hands on the table or palm rest while you
are typing; add a wrist support.
Avoid bending, arching, or angling your wrists.
Use light touch when pressing the keyboard keys.

Posture
Adopt an upright, relaxed working posture and avoid slouch-
ing forward or leaning too far backward. Your forearms and
wrists should be parallel with the floor as illustrated.

EXPLORER 2000 Terminal Front Panel
The EXPLORER 2000 terminal front panel provides basic
display indicators and functional buttons. You can use the
front panel buttons as an alternative to using general remote
control and keyboard functions. The indicators define the
current operating status and channel selected.

Important:
Program the Wireless Keyboard before use.

Programming the Wireless Keyboard
Programming for TV Operation
Make sure the power to your TV is turned on before you
program the Wireless Keyboard.
1. Locate your TV brand in the TV setup code tables on
the pages that follow. If your TV brand is not listed, see
Searching the Code Library.
2. Point the keyboard away from the EXPLORER 2000
terminal, the TV, and the VCR.
3. On your keyboard, press and hold
and at the same
time until the LED on the Wireless Keyboard blinks twice.
4. Using the numeric keys on the keyboard, enter the 3-digit
setup code for your TV brand. The LED on the keyboard
should blink twice. If the LED does not blink twice for
confirmation, try again.
5. Confirm that the setup code is correct by pointing the
keyboard toward the TV and testing the POWER,
VOLUME, and MUTE functions.
6. If this search code test does not work, try another setup
code.

Searching the Code Library
If none of the listed TV codes work, you can enter a code that
searches the library of codes. The Wireless Keyboard
automatically selects the proper code for your TV. Make sure
the power to your TV is turned on before you program the
Wireless Keyboard.
To search the code library, complete the following procedure.
1. Point the keyboard at the EXPLORER 2000 terminal.
2. Press and hold down
and at the same time until the
LED on the Wireless Keyboard blinks twice.
3. Enter code 991. The LED should blink twice.
4. Press
. The LED flashes repeatedly for each code. When
the TV is off, press
. The LED should blink twice.
5. Confirm that the setup code is correct by pointing the
keyboard toward the TV and testing the POWER,
VOLUME, and MUTE functions.

Identifying Programmed Codes
If you need to know what code you programmed your TV, the
keyboard indicates each number in the code based on the
number of LED blinks.
To identify the TV programming code, complete the following
procedure.
1. Point the keyboard away from the EXPLORER 2000
terminaland the TV.
2. Press and hold
and at the same time until the LED
on the keyboard blinks twice.
3. Using the keyboard numeric keys, enter 990. The LED on
the keyboard should blink twice.
Note: You can record the results of steps 4 through 6 in the
box provided in step 7.
4. Press 1 on the keyboard, then count the LED blinks. The
number of blinks indicates the first number in the code. For
example, 4 blinks indicates that the first number of the code
is 4.
5. Press 2 on the keyboard, then count the LED blinks. The
number of blinks indicates the second number in the code.
6. Press 3 on the keyboard, then count the LED blinks. The
number of blinks indicates the third number in the code.

Programming for Volume Control
You can program the Wireless Keyboard to control the volume
and mute functions for either the TV or the EXPLORER 2000
terminal.
To program your keyboard, complete the following procedure.
1. Point the keyboard away from the EXPLORER 2000
terminal and the TV.
2. Press and hold down
and at the same time until
the LED on the Wireless Keyboard blinks twice.
3. Using the numeric keys on the keyboard, enter code 993.
The LED should blink twice.
4. Press either
or to indicate which device you will
use to control the volume and mute keys. The LED should
blink twice.
5. Confirm that the setup code is correct by pointing the
keyboard toward the TV or Explorer 2000 terminal and
testing the POWER, VOLUME, and MUTE functions.
