GENERAL
The PULSTRONIC is a compact electropneumatic pressure regulator (E/P transducer)
which converts an electrical signal into a pneumatic pressure. It is particularly suited for precise
pressure regulation due to its integrated control loop with electronic pressure feedback.

Recommendations for pneumatic connection
To achieve tightness, use a cylindric fitting with fitting sealing disc or a tapered fitting and a liquid sealant. Make sure to apply only a
small quantity of sealant.
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) sealing tape and hemp should not be used as they may get into the inside of the valve and damage it.
To ensure maximum performance, we recommend using pneumatic lines and connections adjusted to the nominal diameter of the valve.
The supply pressure must always be less than the maximum input pressure and must be 0.5 bar above the maximum output
pressure.
Use a sufficiently filtered pressure supply (50 µm, free of condensate). Mount the filter as close as possible to the PULSTRONIC valve.

PULSTRONIC INSTALLATION
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
PULSTRONIC valves are provided with a socket with 4 male pins. The electrical connection is made with a connector size 15 with 4
female pins and a cable gland. Cable entry dia.: 6 mm.
View on female connector side:
1 - + 24V (POWER)
2 - GND (POWER)
3 - Setpoint (0 - 10 V / 0 - 20 mA / 4 - 20 mA)
4 - Option: Feedback value or pressure switch

1) The coil must only be supplied with 24V DC at a tolerance of ± 10% and a max. ripple of 10% (no supply via diode bridge).
Overvoltage or a ripple rate exceeding 10% may damage the electronics.
2) The max. current at pin 4 is 500 mA. Pin 4 is protected against short circuit and overload.
3) If a relay (inductive load) is connected to the pressure switch output, a freewheel diode or a varistor must be used.
4) The valve must be grounded over the dia. M3 connection on the body with an external earthing terminal.
5) A shielded cable must be used for protection against interference and EMC.
6) When adjusting this device, carefully follow the instructions given in this installation manual and all ESD handling
procedures.

ANALOG SETPOINT
The PULSTRONIC valve with analog control is available in the following versions:
Voltage setpoint : 0 - 10 V (version: 0)
• Current setpoint : 0 - 20 mA (version: 1)
4 - 20 mA (version: 2)
As a standard (version: 0), the PULSTRONIC valve is factory adjusted to be used with a setpoint of 0 - 10V.
On-site adjustment is possible by setting the zero point between -2V and +5V (240 k Ω input resistance).
Factory adjustments
PULSTRONIC valves are factory-adjusted as follows:

SETTING PROCEDURE
First adjust the zero point, then - if necessary - the proportional gain.
1) Use potentiometer P4 to set the minimum output pressure for the minimum setpoint.
2) Use potentiometer P5 to reduce the proportional gain if necessary.

Example 1: At a setpoint of 1 volt, the output pressure should be 3 bar: Apply a setpoint of 1 volt and turn potentiometer P4 clockwise
until 3 bar are reached.
Example 2: At a setpoint of 2 volts, the output pressure should be 0 bar: Apply a setpoint of 2 volts and turn potentiometer P4
counterclockwise until 0 bar is obtained.
In order to avoid damaging the pressure sensor, the supply pressure must always be less than the maximum input pressure
defined above.

Example for a valve adjustment with a maximum output pressure of 6 bar.
At a setpoint of 0 - 10 Volts the output pressure should be 0 to 5 bar:
Apply a setpoint of 10 Volts and turn potentiometer P3 counterclockwise until 5 bar are reached at the valve output.
Turn potentiometer counterclockwise.
Turn potentiometer clockwise.
The span can be adjusted between 75 and 100 % of the maximum output pressure.
The factory setting is 100 %.

PROPORTIONAL GAIN (potentiometer P5)
The gain can be adjusted in a range between 5 and 50 with potentiometer P5.
The proportional gain is factory-adjusted to its maximum (50).
The proportional gain can be adjusted to reduce oscillations and overshoot:
• To increase the gain, turn P5 clockwise.
• To decrease the gain, turn P5 counterclockwise.
There are 14 turns between the maximum value and the minimum value (there is no limit stop).

The PULSTRONIC valve is also available with a PNP pressure switch (option no. 2: 6th digit in the order code).

1 - Connect the PULSTRONIC (see chapters on pneumatic and electrical connection).
Do not yet apply pressure to the valve.
2 - Turn potentiometer P6 clockwise to its maximum value. There are 14 turns between the maximum value and the minimum value
(there is no limit stop).
3 - Connect a LED with a resistance of 4.7 K Ω in series
between pin 4 and GND.
4 - Apply a setpoint equivalent to half of the desired total window size (without supplying pressure to the valve).
Example: If you need a pressure switch window size of ±300 mbar for a PULSTRONIC of 0 - 3 bar, a setpoint of 1 volt (10 %) is
required (0.3 bar = approx. 10 % of 10 volts).
