top of the rack, and the controllers and
drive trays below it. Labels on the top of
the controller and drive trays identify the
units and their installation order. Install
the unit with the lowest number (for
example unit #1) at the bottom, and then
install the remaining trays (for example
unit 2, unit 3, and so on) in sequential
order above it.

1. Connect expansion ports to
drive trays.
Cables should lock into place.
Verify they do not pull out
without using the tab.
1. Power off all power
distribution units (PDUs).
2. Plug in power to the SVP.
3. Connect the power cables to the rear panels on the
controllers and drive trays. For redundancy, connect the
power cables to feeds from separate power sources.
Confirm that the POWER LED on the front panel is amber.
4. Power up the PDUs.
5. Power up the SVP before powering up the controllers.
6. Attach the front bezel to the front of the controllers and
each drive tray, and then lock using the supplied key.
7. Press and hold the POWER ON/OFF switch on the
controllers for about 3 seconds. The POWER LED will
change from amber to green.
8. Wait for the READY LED to turn
on (approximately 16 minutes).

2. Make SVP connections.
The SVP is available as:
A physical device supplied by HDS that runs Windows
Embedded Standard 7 (see the installation below).
A software application that operates on a VMware ESXi host,
Linux KVM host, customer-supplied server hardware, or
Windows Hyper-V Server 2012 R Virtual Machine (VM).
As a software application, the SVP runs a customer-supplied
version of Windows 7 Professional x64 Service Pack 1,
Windows 10 Professional, Windows 10 Enterprise, Windows
Server 2012, or Windows Server 2012 R2.

NOTE
If you will use advanced Hitachi software applications, refer to the shared
memory section in the Hardware Installation and Reference Guide to see whether
additional shared memory must be installed.
After performing the initial setup, you can remove the cables from SVP
ports LAN3 and LAN4, and connect the cables to customer-supplied
switches on the network. For more information, see the Service Processor
Technical Reference (FE-94HM8036).
Run the Initial Startup Wizard
1. Congure the PC to use an IP address of
10.0.0.xxx, where xxx = 1-99 or 101-254,
and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
2. Run RDC:
a. Click Start > All Programs >
Accessories > Remote Desktop
Connection.
b. At the Remote Desktop Connection
window:
In the Computer eld, enter the SVP
IP address.
At the bottom, click Show Options.
In the User Name eld, type
SVP-PC\SVP.
Click Connect.
c. At the next screen, enter the password
and click the right arrow icon to connect
to the SVP.
If prompted that the identity of the

remote computer cannot be veried,
click Yes to continue.
3. In the Remote Desktop Connection
window:
a. Click Start > All Programs >
Hitachi Device Manager -
Storage Navigator.
b. Right-click Initial Startup and click
Run as administrator.
c. At the bottom of the Initial Startup
Tool window, click Start Setup .
d. When a message about checking the
initial environment appears, click OK.
4. Complete the Initial Startup elds.
5. Click Apply.
6. When Initial Startup is complete,
click Close, and then click Confirm.
The SVP reboots automatically.
Rebooting takes 5 to 10 minutes.
The following procedure describes how to connect to the SVP using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC).
You can also connect using Storage Device List (refer to the Hardware Installation and Reference Guide).
7. If you did not connect your IP network
(switch) to the LAN1 port on the SVP, do so
now.
8. For block storage systems, leave the
window open and perform the block setup
for initial setup. Otherwise, close the
window and perform the initial setup for le
or VSP G800 with NAS modules.

with NAS Modules
• Use NAS Manager to set link aggregation, IP
routing, directory service, and create system drives.
Verify that external DNS, WINS, NIS, NTP, or SMTP
servers are running normally.
• If you use a rewall, open port 25.
1. In a web browser, type https://<unified
management IP address>:20443 and press
Enter.
2. When prompted about which window to open, click
Maintenance Utility and then complete the
settings for block operation.
3. Log out, and then repeat step 1. When
prompted about which window to open, click
NAS Manager and then complete the settings
for le operation.
Block Setup Only (No NAS Modules)
1. In the Remote Desktop Connection window, click
Start > All Programs > Hitachi Device Manager -
Storage Navigator > StorageDeviceList.
2. Click the registered storage system icon.
3. Log in to Device Manager - Storage Navigator.
4. Launch Maintenance Utility.
5. If prompted, select Continue to this website.
6. In the left pane, under Menu, click Initial Setup
Wizard.
7. At the rst screen, enter the storage system name,
contact, and location. Click Apply and Next.
8. At the next screen, congure the system date and
time.
9. Click Apply.
10. Set the SVP date, time, and time zone to the local
time using the Windows Control Panel.
The steps for accomplishing a successful
initial setup depend on how your storage
system is configured. There are two
possible configurations:
• Block setup (use RDC)
• VSP G800 and VSP F800 with NAS
Modules setup (use the maintenance
utility first to configure block settings,
and then use NAS Manager to configure
file settings)
Enable Hi-Track Remote Monitoring System
Hi-Track provides the remote monitoring and support functionality for Hitachi products. Hitachi recommends you
install and congure Hi-Track to monitor the storage system at the customer site.

2. Under Support Connect on the right, Hitachi internal
employees enter their NT user name and NT password (end
users enter their email address and password).
3. Click Login.
4. Under Dashboard in the left pane, click Support >
Technical Bulletins.
5. Click the technical bulletins you want to read.
6. At the top-right, click Manage My Preferences to
manage your online preferences and email preferences with
Online and Email options that will notify you about technical
bulletins proactively and aid with preventative maintenance.

Congure the storage system host settings. Refer to the
Open-Systems Host Attachment Guide (MK-90RD7037) and
the HDS Product Interoperability Documentation at
https://support.hds.com.
Follow the instructions in your host, HBA, and NIC vendor
documentation for information about host conguration.
Connect the ports on the controllers to your network
switch. Refer to the gures and to your switch
documentation for details. Ports are color-coded for
reference. For port assignments, refer to the Hardware
Installation and Reference Guide.
