gasoholorusingethanolormethanol)can
attractmoisturewhichleadsto separa-
tion andformationof acidsduringstorage.
Acidicgascan damagethefuel system
ofan enginewhile in storage.Toavoid
engineproblems,thefuelsystemshould
beemptiedbeforestorageof 30 days
orlonger. Drainthegastank, startthe
engineandletit rununtilthefuel lines
andcarburetorareempty. Usefreshfuel
nextseason. SeeStorageInstructionsfor
additionalinformation.Neveruseengine
orcarburetorcleaner productsin thefuel
tankor permanentdamagemayoccur.
TO START ENGINE
When startingtheengineforthefirsttime
orif theenginehas run outoffuel,it will
takeextracrankingtimeto movefuel from
thetankto theengine.
1. Be surefreewheelcontrolis in the
transmissionengagedposition.
2. Siton seatin operatingposition,
depressbrakepedalandset parking
brake.
3. Moveattachmentclutchto disengaged
position.
4. Movethrottlecontrolto fast position
5. Pullchokecontroloutfor acoldengine
start attempt.Forawarm enginestart
attemptthechokecontrolmaynotbe
needed.
NOTE:Beforestarting,readthewarmand
cold startingproceduresbelow.
6. Insertkeyinto ignitionandturn key
clockwiseto start positionand release
keyassoonasenginestarts.Do
notrunstartercontinuouslyformore
than fifteensecondsperminute.Ifthe
enginedoesnotstart afterseveral
attempts,pushchokecontrolin,wait
afewminutesandtry again.Ifengine
stilldoesnotstart,pullthechokecon-
trol outand retry.
WARMWEATHERSTARTING(50° F and
above)
7. Whenenginestarts,slowlypushchoke
controlin untiltheenginebeginsto
runsmoothly.Iftheenginestarts to
run roughly,pullthechokecontrolout
slightlyfor afewsecondsandthen
continuetopushthecontrolin slowly.
Theattachmentsand grounddrivecan
nowbeused.Iftheenginedoesnot
accepttheload,restarttheengineand
allowit to warmup forone minuteusing
thechokeasdescribedabove.
COLDWEATHERSTARTING(50° F and
below)
7. Whenenginestarts,slowlypushchoke
controlin untiltheenginebeginsto run
smoothly.Continueto pushthechoke
controlinsmallstepsallowingtheen-
gineto acceptsmallchangesin speed
and load,untilthechokecontrolisfully
in.Iftheenginestarts to run roughly,
pullthechokecontroloutslightlyfora
fewsecondsandthen continueto push
thecontrolin slowly.This mayrequire
an enginewarm-upperiodfromseveral
secondstoseveralminutes,depending
on thetemperature.
NOTE:Inextremecoldconditions,if
enginewill notstartyou mayneedto dis-
engagethemotiondrivebelt asfollows:
1. Besure parkingbrakeis engaged.
2. Removeretainerspringfromthedrive
belttensionhandleto relievebeltten-
sion.
3. Start engineandallow itto warmup for
three (3)minutes.
4. Shut-offengineandengageparking
brake.
5. Engagedrivebelt tensionhandleand
replacethe retainerspring.
AUTOMATICTRANSMISSIONWARMUP
Beforedrivingthe unitin coldweather,
thetransmissionshouldbe warmedup as
follows:
1. Besurethe tractoris on levelground.
2. Placethemotioncontrolleverin
neutral.Releasethe parkingbrakeand
letthebrakeslowlyreturnto operating
position.
3. Allowone minutefortransmissionto
warm up.Thiscan be doneduringthe
enginewarm up period.
• Theattachmentscan be usedduring
theenginewarm-upperiodafterthe
transmissionhas beenwarmedupand
mayrequirethechokecontrolbepulled
outslightly.
NOTE:Ifat ahighaltitude(above3000
feet)orin coldtemperatures(below32 F)
thecarburetorfuel mixturemayneedto
be adjustedforbestengineperformance
(see"TOADJUSTCARBURETOR"in the
ServiceandAdjustmentssectionofthis
manual).
