PVT-100 Installation Instruction
Introduction
The PVT-100 is a Passive Video Transceiver for transmission of PAL/NTSC video signals on
Twisted Pair cable. The PVT-100 can be used as transmitter or receiver. No power supply,
setup or adjustments are needed.
The PVT-100 can be used in pairs connected “back-to-back” for shorter cable runs up to
approx. 150 meters without any signal deterioration. Combining a PVT-100 with the BVR-65
active receiver the transmission distance is extended up to 1000 meters.
Suitable twisted pair cables
v Category 5 (CAT 5) or better: Multiple video signals may be transmitted under a single
CAT 5 cable jacket with multiple pairs due to the favourable cable pair-to-pair crosstalk
figures.
v Outdoor telephone cable type A-2Y(L)2Y: With PE insulation and 0,6-0,8 mm solid cobber
conductors. In general suited for video transmission, however, although available with up
to 100 pairs under a single jacket this cable type is not recommended for transmission of
multiple video signals. As a general rule use maximum 10% of the available pairs for video
transmission to avoid cross-talk interference. Furthermore do not use the remaining pairs
for high speed data transmission such as Ethernet networks or PTZ control signals.
Also verify that the actual cable fulfills the general cable specifications listed below.
v Belden 1700A or 1872A Media Twist: These cables are designed especially for video
transmission.
In general cables with a capacitance of maximum 90 nF/km, a signal attenuation of
maximum 36 dB/km @ 1MHz and a nominal impedance of 90-120
Ω should be suitable. If
specifications can’t be obtained avoid cables with PVC insulation, stranded conductors or
cables designed for low-speed RS-485, audio, computer or instrumentation applications.
Installation
Slide off the plastic cover, fit the wires in the screw terminals and tighten the terminals
securely. Guide tracks are moulded in the cover to avoid the conductors from being
damaged when refitting the cover.
Note: The PVT-100 does not provide galvanic separation. Ground loops, caused by different
ground potentials at the transmit and receive site, may be present. Ground loops may cause
a hum-bar interference in the video signal and may cause permanent damage to the
PVT-100. Inserting a GVS-124/3 Galvanic Seperator in the twisted pair line will prevent a
ground loop.
Back-to-back
Please note that the PVT-100 is
reverse polarity sensitive. The wires
must be connected
straight-through between the units
at each end as shown to the left..
