1 EMR‑3MP0 Motor Protection Relay
The EMR-3MP0 motor protection relay is a multifunctional microprocessor-based
protective relay for the protection of any size motor at all voltage levels. It is most
commonly applied on medium voltage or larger motors. The EMR-3MP0 relay is a current
device with built-in protection that provides complete and reliable motor protection,
monitoring, diagnostics, metering, and starting control functions.
The range of protection functions makes the EMR-3MP0 relay the perfect successor device
of the MP‑3000 motor protection relay.
The intuitive operating concept with plausibility checks and extensive commissioning
functions such as the built-in fault simulator allows a safe and time-optimized
maintenance and commissioning. The parameter setting and evaluation software
PowerPort-E can be used consistently across the entire family of devices.

1.1 Comments on the Manual
A general overview of the protection functions available with the EMR-3MP0 can be
found as a function diagram: ╚═▷ “1 Functional Overview”. Note that the availability
of some functions depends on the ordered device type. See ╚═▷ “Catalog Codes for
the EMR-3MP0” for the available variants.
The EMR-3MP0 uses a special modular concept for its settings, measured values and
signals. Although this concept of modules and parameters is simple and straight-
forward it is strongly recommended, especially for beginners, to make oneself
familiar with it: ╚═▷ “Modules, Settings, Signals and Values”
PowerPort-E is the operating program that can be installed on a Windows PC. It can
connect to the EMR-3MP0, and it can be used to do conguration work and retrieve
data from the EMR-3MP0. A few introductory words are here: ╚═▷ “PowerPort-E”;
however, for a detailed description you can consult the full PowerPort-E Manual as a
separate document.

Various Security settings might have to be done, because the EMR-3MP0 is delivered
with no access restrictions and a very simple standard password that does not oer
any safety at all. Unless you are sure that no special access restrictions are required

WARNING!
PROPER USE
Any unauthorized modications to or use of this equipment outside its specied
mechanical, electrical, or other operating limits may cause personal injury and/or
property damage, including damage to the equipment. Any such unauthorized
modications: (1) constitute “misuse” and/or “negligence” within the meaning of the
product warranty, thereby excluding warranty coverage for any resulting damage; and (2)
invalidate product certications or listings.
The programmable devices subject to this manual are designed for protection and also
control of power installations and operational devices that are fed by voltage sources with
a xed frequency, i.e. xed at 50 or 60 Hertz. They are not intended for use with Variable
Frequency Drives. The devices are further designed for installation in low voltage (LV)
compartments of medium voltage (MV) switchgear panels or in de-centralized protection
panels. The programming and settings have to meet all requirements of the protection
concept (of the equipment that is to be protected). The user must ensure that the device
will properly recognize and manage (e. g.: switch o the Breaker) on the basis of user
selected programming and settings all operational conditions (failures). Before starting
any operation and after any modication of the programming/settings, make a
documented proof that the programming and settings meet the requirements of the
protection concept.
The Self-Supervision Contact (Life-Contact) has to be wired with the substation
automation system in order to supervise and monitor the state of health of the
programmable protective device. It is very important that an alarm annunciation is driven
from the programmable protective device self-supervision contact (Life-Contact) that
requires immediate attention when tripped. The alarm indicates that the protective
device is no longer protecting the circuit and the system should be serviced.
Typical applications for this product family/device line are for example:
Feeder protection;
Mains protection;
Busbar protection;
Generator protection;
Transformer protection and
Machine protection.
This device is not designed for any usage beyond these applications. This applies also to
the use as a partly completed machinery. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any
resulting damage. The user alone bears the risk if this device is used for any application
for which it was not designed. As to the appropriate use of the device: the technical data
specied by Eaton has to be met.

CAUTION!
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE AWARENESS
All electronic equipment is sensitive to electrostatic discharge, some components more
than others. To protect these components from electrostatic damage, the user must take
special precautions to minimize or eliminate electrostatic discharges.
Follow these precautions when working with or near the device.
1. Before performing maintenance on the electronic device, discharge the static
electricity on your body to ground by touching and holding a grounded metal object
(pipes, cabinets, equipment, etc.).
2. Avoid the build-up of static electricity on your body by not wearing clothing made of
synthetic materials. Wear cotton or cotton-blend materials as much as possible because
these do not store static electric charges as much as synthetics.
3. Keep plastic, vinyl, and Styrofoam materials (such as plastic or Styrofoam cups, cup
holders, cigarette packages, cellophane wrappers, vinyl books or folders, plastic bottles,
and plastic ash trays) away from the device, the modules, and the work area as much as
possible.
4. Do not remove any printed circuit board (PCB) from the device cabinet unless
absolutely necessary. If you must remove the PCB from the device cabinet, follow these
precautions:
Do not touch any part of the PCB except the edges.
Do not touch the electrical conductors, the connectors, or the components with
conductive devices or with your hands.
When replacing a PCB, keep the new PCB in the plastic, anti-static protective bag it
comes in until you are ready to install the PCB. Immediately after removing the old
PCB from the device cabinet, place it in the anti-static protective bag.

Connection Diagram that is Printed on the Housing
There is a connection (wiring) diagram xed onto the housing of the EMR-3MP0. This
diagram shows all terminals for this particular device variant.

Load Reference Arrow System
It is common practice to either use the “Load Reference Arrow System” for loads
(consumed energy) or the “Generator Reference System” for generators (generated
energy).
All E‑Series protection devices (except generator protection devices) use exclusively
the “Load Reference Arrow System”. Generator protection devices are working
based on the “Generator Reference System”.
This applies to directions and phase angles. The phase angle is dened as the angle
between the current phasor and the voltage phasor.
Current and voltage arrows are to be counted positive in the direction of the arrow.

Setting Values
The upper box in the diagram on the left is the
usual symbol of a setting value in a function
diagram. The setting name is specied by its
module and parameter name, separated by a
dot “.” one from the other.
Second example: Thanks to the high degree of
modularisation in E‑Series protection devices,
the logic depicted in some function diagrams is
often valid for several modules. In these cases,
only a symbolic module name, for example:
Name”, is given. In the heading part of the
diagram, the meaning of “Name” is specied as
a list of modules to which the diagram applies.
In rare cases it is necessary to also specify the
menu path (or at least the top-level menu item),
because it would be too inconvenient to specify
this particular setting only based on module
name and parameter name. In the third
example, the setting »delta phi - Mode« is
marked as a Field Parameter (i. e. to be found
within menu branch [System Para]).
Another remark: All diagrams in this document
show a small label, in this case: “HPT_Y05”. This
is the diagram name, i. e. a unique identier for
the diagram. Of course, this is not a setting
name, nor any other part of the depicted logic.

but does not include the fastening material. Please check the package for completeness
upon delivery.

NOTICE!
The Device Model
must be installed to allow PowerPort-E to congure a device o-line
(i. e. without the device being connected).
Please make sure the product label, wiring diagram, type code, and materials and
description pertain to this device. If you have any doubts, please contact the Customer
Service Department of Eaton.
Storage
The devices must not be stored outdoors. The storing facilities have to be suciently
ventilated and must be dry (see Technical Data, ╚═▷ “Technical Data EMR-3MP0”).
Battery
The purpose of the battery is to buer the real-time clock in case of an outage of the
protective device's power supply.
Since it is not used for normal operation of the EMR-3MP0, it is not expected under normal
conditions that a replacement be necessary during the life-time of the EMR-3MP0. If,
however, it happens that the battery needs to be replaced the EMR-3MP0 has to be sent
to the manufacturer as a service request.
