The Model AD-500 Telephone Entry & Access Control System
is designed for use as a primary access control device for gated
communities, parking garages, office buildings, apartment, dormitories,
hotels/motels, commercial buildings and recreational facilities with up to
250 residents or users.
Housed in a locked, rugged stainless steel faced enclosure, the AD-500
features a side-lit 12-key telephone style keypad with bright, easy-to-
read graphics, a backlit two-line directory display with programmable
welcome message, a built-in microphone, and speaker.
The two relay output channels can be programmed to control electric
door strikes, magnetic locks, door & gate operators, or barrier gates.
The system utilizes hands-free, full duplex telephone communications
between visitors and residents for granting access.
The system can be programmed locally using the keypad, remotely with
a touch tone telephone, or remotely using a computer equipped with a
modem and a web browser.
Before starting the installation, read and understand these instructions.
Become familiar with the illustrations and wiring diagrams. They will be
a guide to installing the system in an efficient and professional manner.
In a typical installation, the unit’s memory would be programmed with
each resident’s name and directory code number. Arriving visitors would
use the keypad on AD-500 to view the directory names and directory
number for the desired resident. Upon entering the directory number,
the AD-500 will automatically dial the resident’s telephone number and
establish two-way voice communication between the visitor and the
resident. The resident will then have the option to grant or deny access
to the visitor by pressing a digit on their telephone.
In addition to the telephone entry, the AD-500 can grant access using
entry codes (up to 500 entry codes) at the local keypad. Interior and
exterior remote keypads are available.

atabase Overview
P
rogramming the AD-500 involves entering installation information into
t
he system’s memory. The system uses this information as a reference
“database” to control the operation of the system.
Request-to-Exit Inputs
Up to 250 resident names and telephone numbers can be set. Each
r
esident entry is assigned a directory number. Directory numbers can be from two
to four digits in length (all will be the same length). The directory number is the
number a visitor would enter to have the system call the
resident.
Entry Code Data
Up to 500 entry codes can be set. Entry codes can be from two to six
digits in length (all will be the same length). An entry code is a number entered at
the local keypad to request access. The entry code
will activate. Each entry code can be set to restrict which relay
activates. Entry codes can also be set to toggle the relay output (output latches on
until the next time a toggle entry code is entered). Each entry code can be set for
a limited or unlimited number or uses.

he system supports up to seven AD-500s connected to the same telephone line.
Some telephone systems may only support up to four units on the same telephone
l
ine.
I
n multiple-unit installations each AD-500 must be assigned a unique unit
number before programming. The unit number allows connection to specific unit
w
hen calling for programming. One unit must be assigned as Unit #1.

NOTE: If this is the only unit used in the installation, leave the factory
setting at one. Skip this programming step.
Perform the following steps on each AD-500 unit
connected to the same
telephone line
.

master password and access programming.

Multiple Unit Installation Programming Information
To computer program multi-unit installations that use the same telephone line,
each unit will require a separate “Dial-up” connection.
Creating a Connection for Each Unit
1. Start creating a “Dial-up” connections for each unit as described on
Page 13.
2. When the “New Connection Wizard” ask for the “Connection Name”
(Step # 6 in the Page 13 figure) enter a unique name for the specific unit.
Example: “AD-500 Unit #2”.
3. When the “New Connection Wizard” asks for the “Phone Number to Dial”
(Step # 7 in the Page 13 figure) enter the common telephone number for the
multi-unit installation followed by four commas, the unit number, and a #.
Example: 555-1234,,,,2#”.

NOTE: Each comma adds a 2-second delay to the dialing process.
Depending on the the time required by the telephone system to make a
connection to the AD-500, more or less commas might be required.
4. When the “New Connection Wizard” is finished, a desktop icon named for
each AD-500 unit will be created on the computer.
To connect to a specific unit for programming, double-click on the desktop icon
named for the unit.
Copying Data from One Unit to Another
If multiple units will be sharing the same programming information, data from one
unit can be copied to another. A backup file is created in this process to make copies.
For security, backing up a unit’s data is always a good idea.
1. After entering the Resident Data, Media Data, and programming options
for the first unit, click “Utilities”, then “Data Backup”. Click “Save” at the
XML warning window then select a file to save to.
2.
After the data backup is complete, disconnect from the first unit, then
reconnect to the unit to copy the data to.
3. From the home page, click “Utilities”, then “Load Factory Defaults”. When
complete, click “Data Restore” and browse for the file to copy. Select the
file and click “Upload” to send the file to the unit.

4. Make any other unit-specific programming changes before disconnecting.

telephone. The
telephone’s keypad will act similar to the AD-500’s local keypad.

onnecting with a Telephone
1. Place a call to the telephone number of the line that the AD-500 is
connected.
2. The AD-500 will answer and sound a tone for about

⁄2 second.
3. After the tone, enter the master password, then press # (factory
s
etting is 123456). If the password is correct, the system will sound
two short beeps. For multi-unit installations, enter the unit
number then # before entering the password.
4. Programming commands can now be entered from the telephone’s
keypad. Refer to the following sections of this manual for
programming step details.
When programming over the telephone, each programming step consists
of entering programming data using the keypad. The system will sound
beeps over the telephone to indicate correct or incorrect entries.
• After a correct entry, two short beeps will sound.
• After an incorrect entry, a long beep will sound.
• After the complete programming step has been entered correctly
three short beeps will sound.
Re-entering a Command After a Mistake
If an incorrect entry, or an incorrect key is pressed during programming,
press and start the programming step over again.

Accessing Programming from the Local Keypad

Re-entering a Command After a Mistake

frequently.
The following steps detail data backup and restore techniques used
while programming with the AD-500’s built-in programming interface and
a personal computer.
Data Backup
To copy data from a unit to a backup file, follow these steps:
1. From the home page, click “Utilities”.
2. Select “Data Backup”.
3. Click “Save” at the XML warning window.
4. Select a file to save to and click “Save”.
Data Restore
To copy data from a backup file to a unit, follow these steps:
1. From the home page, click “Utilities”.

Changing the Directory Number Length
The factory settings for the directory number length is 3 digits. It can be set to 2,
3, or 4 digits.

memory, display system information, and control the relays.
Display Unit Number
In multi-unit installations the unit number of each AD-500 can be displayed.

Speaker Tone on Relay Channel “A” Activation

granted with Relay Channel “A”. The tone can be turned on if desired.

Maximum Visitor Talk Time
Visitors will converse with residents over the telephone until the resident grants
or denies access. If the resident responds to the visitor’s request by pressing
their telephone keys the system will hang up and release the telephone line. If for

up, the system will automatically disconnect the visitor after 60 seconds. The
resident can extend the talk time by pressing the # key on their telephone. The
disconnect time can be adjusted from 15-255 seconds.

AD-500 Operation
Requesting Access with an Entry Code
• Residents/authorized personnel have up to 40 seconds to key in
their entry code.
• Up to eight seconds are allowed between each keystroke.
• All digits of the entry code must be entered. Example: If the entry
code length is set for four digits, and the code is 0042, the user
must enter “0 0 4 2”.
• If the wrong key is pressed, pressing the key will reset the
keypad. The correct code can then be re-entered.
• After a correct code is entered, and if the conditions for granting
access are fulfilled, the programmed relay channel will activate for
the programming time.
• If the number of incorrect codes entered exceeds the keypad
lockout count, the keypad will be locked and not accept any
entries for one minute.
Requesting Access with a Visitor Call
• Press to view the directory
• If the visitor already knows the resident’s directory number, they
can enter the directory number to call the resident.
• If the visitor doesn’t know the residents directory number, they
can scroll through the alphabetical directory entries by pressing
or (holding down the keys will scroll the display faster).
•
When the visitor finds the resident’s directory number, they enter
it on the keypad to call the resident.
•
The system dials the resident’s directory number to establish
2-way communications.

• If the resident is using the telephone at the same time a visitor
calls, the display will indicate to the visitor that the line is busy.
• The resident answers the call and converses with the visitor to
determine if access will be granted.

activating Relay Channel “A” by pressing , or activating Relay
Channel “B” by pressing . After access is granted, the system
will disconnect the visitor and resident call.
• The resident can disconnect the visitor without granting access by
pressing or by hanging up.

System completely dead
1. No power from transformer. Check voltage at AD-500 transformer

Le système d’accès et de contrôle par téléphone AD-500 est conçu pour être util-
isé comme dispositif de contrôle d’accès principal pour les ensembles résiden-
tiels protégés, les stationnements intérieurs, les immeubles à bureau, les
appartements, les résidences d'étudiants, les hôtels et les motels, les immeubles
commerciaux et les installations récréatives de plus de 250 résidents et usagers.
Logé dans un boîtier verrouillé en acier inoxydable robuste, le AD-500 possède
un clavier téléphonique à 12 touches à éclairage latéral, des illustrations faciles
à lire, un répertoire à ligne double rétroéclairée avec un message de bienvenue
programmable, un microphone intégré et un haut-parleur.
Les deux canaux de relais de sortie peuvent être programmés pour contrôler les
gâches de portes électriques, le serrures magnétiques, les dispositifs de ferme-
ture de portes ou de barrières.
Pour autoriser l’accès, le système utilise des communications téléphoniques en
duplex intégral et à mains libres entre les visiteurs et les résidents.
On peut programmer le système localement en utilisant le clavier, à distance
avec un téléphone à boutons- poussoirs ou avec un ordinateur équipé d’un
modem et d’un fureteur Web.
Avant de commencer l’installation, lisez et comprenez bien ces directives.
Familiarisez-vous avec les illustrations et les schémas de câblage. Ils vous ser
vi-
ront de guide pour installer le système correctement et professionnellement.
Lors d’une installation normale, la mémoire de l’unité serait programmée avec
le nom de chacun des résidents et le numéro de code du répertoire. Les visi
-
teurs qui se présentent utiliseraient le clavier du AD-500 pour voir les noms et
les numéros désirés inscrits au répertoire des résidents. Une fois que le
numéro du répertoire est entré, le AD-500 signalera automatiquement le
numéro de téléphone du résident et établira une communication à double
sens entre le visiteur et le résident. Ce dernieraura alors le choix d’autoriser
ou de refuser l’accès au visiteur en appuyant sur un ciffre sur son téléphone.
En plus du code téléphonique, le AD-500 peut autoriser l’accès en utilisant
des codes d’accès (jusqu’à 500 codes d’accès) à partir du clavier local. Des
claviers à distance intérieurs et extérieurs sont disponibles.

activera le dispositif. Chaque code d’accès peut être réglé pour n’activer qu’un
seul relais. Les codes d’accès peuvent également être réglés pour actionner le
relais de sortie (la sortie s’enclenche jusqu'à la prochaine fois qu’un code d’ac-
cès est entré). Chaque code d’accès peut être réglé pour le nombre de fois

Copier les données d’une unité à une autre
Les données d’une unité peuvent être copiées à une autre si plusieurs unités
doivent partager la même information programmée. Un fichier de sauvegarde
est créé pour effectuer des copies lors de ce processus. Par mesure de sécu-
rité, c’est une excellente idée que de sauvegarder les données d’une unité.
1. Une fois que vous avez entré les données du résident et de support puis que
vous avez programmé les choix de la première unité, cliquez sur “Utilities /
Utilitaires” et ensuite sur “Data Backup / sauvegarde des donnees” . Cliquez
sur “Save / sauvegarder” dans la fenêtre de mise en garde XML, puis sélec-
tionnez un fichier pour sauvegarder.
2. Une fois que la sauvegarde des données est terminée, débranchez-vous de
la première unité et branchez-vous à l’unité sur laquelle vous désirez copier
les données.
3. À la page d’accueil, cliquez sur “Utilities / Utilitaires”, puis “Load Factory

Notes de Programmation
Par mesure de sécurité, c’est une excellente idée que de
sauvegarder les données de l’unité. Faites fréquemment des
sauvegardes lorsque vous effectuez des modifications à la
programmation.
Les étapes qui suivent indiquent comment sauvegarder vos
données de même que les restaurer lorsque vous programmez
le AD-500 avec l’interface de programmation intégrée et un
ordinateur personnel.
Sauvegarde des données
Voici comment procéder pour sauvegarder les données d’une
unité sur un fichier:
1. À la page d’accueil, cliquez sur “Utilities / Utilitaires”.
2. Sélectionnez “Data Backup / Sauvegarde des données”
3. Cliquez sur “Save / Sauvegarder” dans la fenêtre de mise
en garde XML.
4. Sélectionnez un fichier de sauvegarde et cliquez “Save /
Sauvegarder”.
Restauration des données

oici comment procéder pour copier les données d’un fichier
de sauvegarde sur une unité:
1. À la page d’accueil, cliquez sur “Utilities / Utilitaires”.
2. Sélectionnez “Load Factory Defaults / Télécharger les
données par défaut de l’usine”.

CONSEIL IMPORTANT: Téléchargez toujours les données
par défaut de l’usine dans une unité avant d’entreprendre
la restauration de données. Autrement, les données de
l’unité risquent de se corrompre.

Cliquez sur “Y
es / Oui”, puis sur “Save / Sauvegarder”.
4. Une fois que vous avez terminé, cliquez sur “Data
Restore / Restaurer les données”.
5. Utilisez le fureteur pour copier le fichier.
6.
Sélectionnez le fichier et cliquez sur “Upload /
Télécharger” pour l’envoyer à l’unité.

Jusqu’à 250 noms de résidents et de numéros de téléphone peuvent être
réglés. Chaque résident se voit assigner un numéro au répertoire. Les
numéros du répertoire sont ceux que les visitent entrent pour que le sys-
tème appelle le résident.

NOTA: Il est préférable de programmer le AD-500 à partir d’un ordi-
nateur lorsque vous entrez les noms des résidents. Consultez la sec-
tion “Programmation à partir du clavier local” pour les directives sur
la façon d’entrer les codes alphanumériques à partir du clavier.
Modification de la longueur des numéros du répertoire
Le réglage en usine des numéros du répertoire est composé de trois (3)

hiffres. On peut le régler à 2, 3, ou 4 chiffres.

Un code d’accès est un numéro entré sur le clavier local ou à distance pour
demander un accès. On peut régler jusqu’à 500 codes d’accès de deux à six
chiffres. Tous les codes doivent être de la même longueur. Le réglage à l’usine
p
ermet au code d’accès d’activer. Canal de relais “A” ou “B”, selon le clavier sur
l
equel on a entré le code. Chaque code d’accès peut être réglé pour n’activer
qu’un seul relais. Les codes d’accès peuvent également être réglés pour action-
ner le relais de sortie (la sortie s’enclenche jusqu’à la prochaine fois qu’un code
d’accès est entré). Chaque code d’accès peut être réglé pour le nombre de fois
désiré, limité ou illimité.
