Introduction
This document shows how to safely replace the RAM on a T-SURFACE-3. Failure to
follow this document may cause injury and/or damage to the ActivTable and its
components. The following should only be carried out by a competent person.
Please ensure that the warnings below are strictly adhered to:
Ensure you have adequate Electro
Static Discharge protection, especially
in situations where electronic
components are handled.
Ensure the AC Mains Cable is disconnected prior
to replacing any internal parts
Multiple people are required to move the
ActivTable due to its size and weight
Voltage readings should only be taken in a safe
environment by suitably qualified personnel
Ensure all internal connections are securely
reconnected before replacing the back panel
Following any work on the ActivTable the Post Service Test Procedure should be
carried out.

Manual Handling of the ActivTable
There are 2 options when working
on the ActivTable:
1. Work under the ActivTable.
2. Rotate the ActivTable on to
its side or face. This option
requires at least 2 people.
Ensure that a floor covering
is used to protect the
ActivTable; care must be
taken to ensure that there is
no sideways pressure
applied to the legs whilst
rotating.

Back Panel Removal
Disconnect the AC
mains supply
Remove ten screws
(circled) and carefully
move the cover away
from the bottom of the
system
Caution: Once the screws
are removed the cover
may drop
Disconnect the earth
strap from the cover
Disconnect the backup
battery from the power
control board

RAM Replacement
Remove the existing RAM by releasing the clamps on each side and lifting it
away
Carefully insert the new RAM, ensuring it is pushed in fully
Reconnect the backup battery
Refit the back panel, ensuring earth strap is correctly connected and all screws
are tightened correctly

Post Service Test Procedure
The following test must be carried out on completion of the RAM change process to
ensure the earth continuity is maintained after servicing.
This process is required to be completed if at any stage the bottom cover has been
removed from the ActivTable.
Set the meter to Ohms
(Ω)
Verify resistance of the
leads on the meter and
record result
(In this example, the meter
recorded 0.2 Ohm.)

Remove one screw
from the bottom cover
of the ActivTable
Connect one probe to
the earth pin of the
ActivTable mains lead
plug
Place the second
probe into the hole
where the screw was
removed, ensuring the
probe is touching the
screw thread on the
chassis
Check the resistance
shown is no more than
0.2 Ohms (Ω) higher
than the value logged
in step2

Connect one probe
to the earth pin of
the ActivTable
mains lead plug as
supplied
Place the second
probe on to the
service test point.
NOTE - If the
ActivTable does not
have the service
test point remove a
little paint from one
of the circular
venting holes.
Check the
resistance reported
is no more than 0.2
Ohms (Ω) higher
than the value
logged in step2
