System overview of alpha home

alpha home is a system for individual room heat-

ing control in buildings that is operated via iOS and

Androiddevices.

Viatheoptionalheatpumpconnection,agenuineindi-

vidualroomcontrolwithsupplyasrequiredinaccord-

ancewithEN15232ispossible.

The alpha home individual room control is available

withwallradiatorsorunderoorheatingregardlessof

themanufacturerofheaters.

The alpha home system can be coupled to the heat

pumpinthenetworkviatheEthernet.Thealphahome

system can thus access the heating, cooling and

domestichotwaterfunctionoftheheatpump.

Thealphahomecanalsobeconnectedtootherheat

generatorsviatheinterfaces,switchcontactor0-10V.

alphahomeisfullyremovable,whichisveryimportant,

especiallyinrentedapartments.

The individual room control can be activated for 24

rooms.

Amaximumof4controlvalves/alphahomeunderoor

heating control channels can be activated for each

room.

For wall radiators, this is an alpha home radiator drive

and for underoor heating zones, it is one channel

of an alpha home oor heating control with a wired

controlvalve.

Analphahomeroomsensorisrequiredforeachroom

which is controlled with an alpha home oor heating

controllerchannel.

Youcancontrolatotalof96controlvalveswithalpha

home. For the system, it is unimportant whether it is a

wallunit, anunderoor heatingunit ora combination

of both.

2.1 The Z-Wave radio system

The Z-Wave radio system is a wireless communica-

tionstandarddesignedspecicallyforuseinthesmart

home sector. The radio communication is optimised

for low power consumption and high communication

security.

Z-Wave uses two-way communication with recon-

rmation. Only conrmed telegrams are considered

successfully sent. If communication errors occur, the

transmission operation is repeated up to three times.

Z-Wave has implemented the property of a mesh net-

workingtechnologyinwhicheachpowereddeviceon

thenetworkcanforwardmessagesfromotherdevices

initsownnetwork.Theresultingmeshnetworkiscon-

trolled by alpha home Gateway and updates the routes

inthenetworkchanges.

alpha home oor heating control and alpha home

repeaters are constantly active and can therefore

serve as a Z-Wave router. Battery-powered devices

such as alpha home radiator drive and alpha home

roomsensoraremostlyinactiveandwakeupperiodi-

callytoreceiveandsendoutcommands.Theycannot

be used as a router.

3 Connectiontotheheatpump

NOTE

Before alpha home is put into operation,

make sure that the following basic settings

are made on the heat pump controller.

Requirement:SoftwareVersionX.79.

Integrate the heat pump controller into your

homenetwork.

 See controller instruction for the heat

pump.

Yes = means: alpha home optimises the heating

control. The heat distribution system should be fully

equippedwithalphahomecontrolcomponents.

Inthe2sub-sections

you can specify an additional heating area to the

heating curve that the alpha home system may

compensate.

The heating and cooling curves stored in the heat

pump controller can thus be raised or lowered by a

maximumof5K(in1Kincrements):

Intelligentdefrostfunction:

The intelligent defrost function is only available for

series storage facilities. If this function is activated,

thealphahomesystemopensalloorheatingduring

defrost.Theheatpumpthereforeusestheenergyfrom

thevolumeofwaterforthethawingprocessandseries

storagecanbedispensedwith.

Default temperatures

In order to dene the heating and mixing circuits of

a work area, appropriate temperature settings must

be made  under Service - Settings - Temperatures,

dependingontheheatdistributionsystem:

Thealphahomesystemsupportsindividualroomcontrolforheatingandcooling.Iftheheatpumphasacooling

function,thefunctionalityforcoolingisautomaticallydisplayedinthealphahomesystem.IntheSet-upWizard,in

additiontoheating/mixingcircuits,coolingcircuitswhichcorrespondinglytakeoverthesupplycanalsobeassigned.

Ifnosupplycircuitisassignedforcoolinginaroom,thisisnotactiveincoolingmode,thatis,thevalvesremain

closed. Radiator drives do not work in cooling mode in general, the valves remain permanently closed in this

operatingstate.Thealphahomeindividualroomcontrolsystemswitchesoverthethecontrolprinciplefromheating

tocoolingindependently.

in the facility.All wireless components to control the

radiator(alphahomeradiator drive),theoor heating

(alphahomeoorheatingcontrol)andtheroomtem-

peraturedetection(alphahomeroomsensor)arecon-

nectedwiththealphahomecontrolboxviathealpha

home Gateway.

alpha home radiator drive

The alpha home radiator drive is a wireless actuator

forcontrollingaheater.

Thealphahome radiatordrive tson allmajorbrand

valves with M30 x 1.5mm connection or RA adapter.

We offer matching adapter for valves with RA/V and

RA/VLconnector.Otheradaptersareavailablethrough

retailers.Thealphahomeradiatordrivecommunicates

via radio with the alpha home Gateway.

alphahomeunderoorheatingcontrol

The alpha home underoor heating control is a

control system for underoor heating and heating

coils. It allows eight channels, with which up to

three thermoelectric actuators are each controlled.

A maximum of 24 thermoelectric actuators can be

connected. The alpha home underoor heating

controllercommunicatesviaradiowiththealphahome

Gateway.Thealphahomeoorheatingcontrollerhas

an integrated repeater to improve the coverage of

otherwirelesscomponents.

alpha home room sensor

The alpha home room sensor is a room sensor for

detectingtheactualtemperatureinroomswithunder-

oorheating.Usingwirelesstechnology,thepositionof

thealphahomeroomsensorinroomcanbeselected

exibly,butitshouldnotbecoveredinordertoobtain

accuratetemperaturereadings.Thealphahomeroom

sensorcommunicateswirelesslywiththealphahome

Gateway.

alpha home app

Theappisinstalledonmobiledevicessuchassmart

phones or tablets (iOS or Android) and is used for the

operation of the alpha home system.

The app is available in multiple languages. The app

startsinthelanguageoftheoperatorpanel,ifunavail-

able>English.

Activate alpha home smart connect in the Set-up

Wizard of the alpha home control box if you want to

operate your heating system from anywhere. alpha

homesmartconnectisawebserver andestablishes

theconnectionwhenyouaccessyour heatingon the

gowithyourapp.alphahomesmartconnectdoesnot

storedata.Alldata,accessandpasswordsarestored

athomeinyourhomealphacontrolboxandareonly

accessible by valid users after log-in. This concept

providesthehighestpossibledatasecurity.

When you connect the alpha home control box at

hometotheInternet,youcanuseandcontrolheating

and room temperatures with alpha home, no matter

where you are. Simply use your smart phone or tablet

with3G/4Gmobile(UMTS/LTE)orWLAN.

5 Technicalrequirements

Thealphahomesystemcanbeusedwithyourunder-

oor or radiator heating, no matter what heat source

youhave.Inordertoconvenientlyusethealphahome

fromanywhere,youneed:

● A smartphone or tablet(iOS 7.0orAndroid 4.x)

with 3G/4G mobile (UMTS, LTE) and WLAN on

site

● A wired or wirelesshome network (LAN, WLAN)

and

● AnInternetconnectionathome(DSL,cable,bre,

LTE).

If you want to use alpha home exclusively at home

anddonotwanttooperateitonthego,evenasmart

phoneortabletwithoutmobileradioissufcient.

The alpha home app is currently available for iOS

(iPhone, iPad and iPod with iOS 7.0) and Android

available(version4.xfortabletsfrom8”).

can vary slightly, depending on the system

used.

All230VwirelesscomponentswithintheZ-Wavenet-

work have repeaterfunctions for other Z-Wave prod-

uctsandhelptoincreasethereliabilityofthenetwork.

6.3 Conditionsandrequirements

Please follow the prescribed sequence during the

installation and commissioning of the alpha home

controlboxandthealphahomeGateway.

1. First, completely set up the alpha home control

box,

2. then set up the alpha home Gateway.

A commercially available laptop and the alpha home

installationkit,consistingofthealphahomeUSBLAN

adapterandanetworkcablearerequiredforthecom-

missioningofthealphahomesystem.

NOTE

You need a current Internet browser. We

recommend using Mozilla Firefox, Google

Chrome or Safari, as they have automatic

updatefunctions.

Turn off the power supply on facility.



Protect against reconnection.



Check for absence of voltage.

 Connect the alpha home control box with the

homenetworkofthecustomer.

1. Pernetwork cable (3) withan available Ethernet

port on the internet router or switch of the cus-

tomer.Thelengthofthetotalcabledistancefrom

thealphahomecontrolboxuptothenextswitch

orroutermustnotexceed100m.

2. Alternatively using WLAN connection. Plug the

alphahome WLANstick (2)intoone ofthe USB

socketsatthetopofthealphahomecontrolbox.

3. The WLAN stick must remain permanently

inserted for proper function of the alpha home

controlbox.

4. Ask the customer for the access data to his/her

wirelessnetwork-youwillneedthisinthefollow-

ingset-upsteps.

5. Also advise the customer that from now on

changestohis/herWLAN(newrouter,otherkeys,

etc.) can impair the function of alpha home and

possiblyrequirere-adjustmentofthealphahome

set-up.

 Connecttheheatgenerator 

(see page12, Pos. 4, optional) in accordance

withtheterminalassignmentofalphahomecon-

trolbox.1heatgeneratormax.canbeconnected.

In order to operate the alpha home system, users must

logintothesystemwiththeirusernameandpassword.

4. Screw the housing lower part (2) on the desired
