General Requirements for all Subooring
Substratesshouldbestructurallysoundandimmobile.Before
installingooring,ensurethesuboorisleveledwithin3/16inchin
10feet.Irregularitiesinthesuboorshouldbesmoothedusinga
levelingcompound.
Wood
• Suspendedwoodsuboorsshouldhaveaminimumof18
inchesofwell-ventilatedairspaceabovetheground.
• Themoisturecontentofthewoodsuboorshouldnot
exceed12%.
Concrete
• Newconcretesubooringshouldbecuredforatleast90days
priortoinstallation.
• Amoisturetestshouldbeperformedonthesuboor.Using
acalciumchloridetest,valuesformoisturevaporshallbe<5
lbs./1,000sq.ft./24hoursperASTM1869.
• Youmustinstalla0.006inchage-resistant,non-permeable
polyethylenevaporbarrierovertheconcretesuboor.
Tapeseamswithanadhesivetape.Thevaporbarriershould
beinstalledupthewallby1inch.
Carpeting
• Removeallcarpetingandpaddingpriortoinstallation.
Vinyl / Sheet Vinyl
• Ifexistingooringhasunderlaymentitmustberemoved.
• Vinylmustbewellsecured,level,andingoodcondition.
• Ifsuboorunderthevinylisconcreteyoumustinstalla0.006
inchage-resistant,non-permeablepolyethylenevaporbarrier
overtheoor.Tapeseamswithanadhesivetape.Thevapor
barriershouldbeinstalledupthewallby1inch.
Radiant Heating Systems
• Laminateooringcanbeinstalledonunder-oorradiant
heatingsystemsiftheheatingelementisinstalledintowood
orconcretesuboors.
• Lowerheatingsystemto60ºFfor1weekbeforeinstallation.
• Afterinstallation,slowlyincreasethetemperaturein
incrementsof10ºFperday.
• Surfacetemperaturemustnotexceed85ºF.
• Followinstallationinstructionsforwoodorconcreteas
outlinedabove.
Room & Material Preparation
• Removeallexistingmoulding.
• Allowlaminateooringtoacclimatetoroomtemperature
(between60ºF-80ºF)byplacingthepackagedooringatin
theroomforaminimumof48hourspriortoinstallation.Do
notremovetheplasticwrapping. [1]
• Flooringshouldbeinstalledandmaintainedinaclimate
controlledenvironmentwithambienttemperaturebetween
60ºF-80ºFandarelativehumidityof35%-70%.
• Checkdoorclearancesandmakenecessaryadjustments
beforelayingtheooring.Doormouldings(jambs)shouldbe
undercuttoaccommodatethethicknessoftheooringaswell
astheunderlayment(whetherpre-attachedorinstalled

• Forproductwithoutunderlayment;installpremiumgrade
laminateooringunderlaymentperthemanufacturer’s
instructions.DONOTinstallmorethanonelayerof
underlayment.Doingsowillvoidthewarranty.
Important Information Before Starting
• Ifroomhaselectricbaseboardheaters,leaveaminimumof
1/2inchbetweenthesurfaceoftheooringandthebottom
oftheheaters,allowingheattocirculate.
• UseT-mouldingsforroomswiderorlongerthan40feetand
openingslessthan4feet.
• Determinewhichdirectiontolaytheplanks.Ifinstallingin
narrowhallwaysorsmallrooms,theareawillappearlargerif
ooringislaidparalleltothelongestwall.
• Inspecteachplankfordefectspriortoinstallation.Donot
installdefectiveplanks;installationofdefectiveplanksimplies
acceptanceofmaterial.Workoutofseveralcartonsatthe
sametimetoensureamixtureofcolorandshade.
• A3/8”spacermustbeusedalonganyverticalsurface.When
theprojectiscompletedthesespacerswillberemoved
leavinga3/8”expansiongap.Thisgapisnecessarybecause
laminateexpandsandcontractswithtemperatureand
humiditychanges.Thegapprovidedwillpreventyourooring
frombeingdamagedduringthosechanges.
• Toprovideaushedge,anyplankedgethatwouldcontacta
spacercanhaveitsprolecutoff.
• Theminimumlengthofaplanktoeitherbeginorendarowis
8”.Theminimumjointoffsetbetweenrowsis12”. [3]
• Whenassemblingtheplanks,especiallyintherstrow,you
mustmakesurethatthepiecesarelockedinsquareandush.
Thiswillmakesubsequentrowassemblyeasier.
