21. Introduction
Requirements for achieving high precision in registration adjustment
1. Paper dimension / configuration
It is important to use paper that is cut in the correct dimension and configuration.
2. Paper humidity condition
It is important to use paper that has just been taken out of its package.
If you use paper that has been left out of its package for a while, uneven moisture condition in the paper stack
may occur, causing deviation in paper length and shrinkage, and the image position accuracy may decrease.

4Step 1: Programming Custom Paper
Use the control panel of the main unit to register Custom Paper.
Before registering a Custom Paper, check the product name, size,
and type of the paper you are about to register.
Press the [Media] hub → [Master Library].
Select the check box of the paper to be registered, and press [Copy].
Select the check box of the paper size to register, and then press
[OK].
The paper is registered in [Custom Paper].
Press [OK].
Change "Custom Paper Name" or other settings as required.
Press [Select Tray].
Select the paper tray that you loaded the paper, and then press
[OK].
When the screen of Step ⑤ is displayed again, press [OK] in the
lower right corner.

5Step 2: Executing Automatic Adjustment of Image Position
This section describes how to adjust the registration on the front
and back sides of paper automatically by printing a test page on
the paper allocated to a source tray.
Press the [Media] hub → [Custom Paper].
Press [Image Position], and then press [Adjust/Print] under "Front
& Back Sides: 10 sheets".
Select the check box of the paper to be adjusted, and press [Edit].
Press [OK].
The image position is adjusted, and the adjustment result is printed.
When the screen of Step ⑤ is displayed again, press [OK] in the
lower right corner.
Adjusting Registration Alignment on the
Front and Back Sides Automatically
* You can change the number of copies to print in Adjustment Settings for
Operators "0102 Auto Adjust Image Position: No. of Printed Sheets".
The Automatic adjustment of Image Position result may deteriorate if you
specify a number that is smaller than the default value.
Also, the registration accuracy on Side 1/2 may decrease depending on the
condition such as the type, thickness, length or color of the paper.
If this occurs, see "If further adjustment is required".
* You can specify an adjustment value on paper up to 1030 mm (2-sided) or
1260 mm (1-side) in length, but the adjustment is only valid on paper up
to 700 mm long because compensation using the registration function
cannot be applied when using paper longer than 700.1 mm.
Select the check box of the paper to be adjusted, and press [OK].
When “Tray Not Selected” is displayed, specify the tray on which the
paper to be adjusted is loaded.
1. Load the paper to be adjusted onto the tray.
2. Press [Select Tray].
3. Specify the tray where you loaded the paper, and then press [OK].

<When the Image Magnification Value Exceeds the Adjustable
Range While Performing Automatic Adjustment of Image
Position>
1. While performing Automatic adjustment of Image Position, the image magnification value along the feed direction may
exceed the adjustable range (-0.5 %-+0.4 %) depending on the paper type, size, machine usage condition, or secondary
transfer condition.
[How to confirm the occurrence of a phenomenon method]
If asterisks (*) are displayed with no. 10 and 12 in the adjustment result printed on the result confirmation sheet after
completing Automatic adjustment of image Position, the values are outside the adjustable range.
Also, note that only the image magnification values along the feed direction are presented in this manner.

<When the Image Magnification Value Exceeds the Adjustable
Range While Performing Automatic Adjustment of Image

2. Check the result of Automatic adjustment of Image Position, and determine a solution depending on the case.
[Case ①]
If the registration variance on the front and back side is within an acceptable range, no further action is required. Apply the
result of Automatic adjustment of Image Position.
<Example measure>
Use the value that is outside the adjustable range that is printed on
the Automatic adjustment of Image Position result sheet.
10ʼ: Image Mag. Result:Side1 W.Feed Over Range 0.250 %
12ʼ: Image Mag. Result:Side2 W.Feed Over Range 0.200 %
The actual image length is longer for images that have a greater out-
of-adjustable-range value.
In this example, add the difference between 10ʼ and 12ʼ (0.050 %) to
the adjustment item for Side 1 shown below

the front and back side according to the example.
8Step 3: If Further Adjustment is Required
To adjust the image position and registration further after completing the Automatic adjustment of Image Position,
follow the procedure described in Steps 2-①-③ on pages 10-16 in "Manual Adjustment Flow Details".

Perform the procedure in the order of ①,
②, and ③ in Advanced Settings.
This item can be specified individually for
the front and back sides, and adjusting
the position on Side 2 only is adequate if
the deviation of the image on Side 1 is
within the acceptable tolerance.

Side 2
It is recommended to perform adjustment by following the procedure below in the presented order.
If you perform the procedure in the wrong order, you may be requested to perform the same adjustments again.
10 Step 2-①: Adjusting the Trapezoid on Side 1 (Front) and
Side 2 (Back)
<Steps>
1. Print a pattern that indicates the outline of the images on the front and back sides. When the appropriate data is unavailable, you can
use the test chart that you can print following the procedure shown below.

17 4. When Using the Image Position Feedback
Compensation
This machine has a built-in feedback compensation mechanism that detects the image position while printing.
The compensation mechanism can be enabled or disabled from Custom Paper-Advanced Settings (default is [Correction Off]).
Press [Media] hub on the control panel of the main unit specify the paper to configure the settings → [Edit] → specify the
paper size → [OK] → [Detailed settings] → 11: [Machine: Image Position] → 1103: [Image Position Feedback Correction]
[Correction Mode] → 01: [Setting] in this order.
To print with Image Position Feedback Correction enabled, be sure to perform Automatic adjustment of Image Position in
advance.
* An unintended misalignment of image position may occur if you perform printing with Image Position Feedback Correction
enabled after only performing front and back sides registration without performing Automatic adjustment of Image Position.
• When "Detection Mark" is specified, marks for detecting the image position are printed on the front side of the image.
If the mark for detecting the image position overlaps the image, the print position may become shifted or a paper jam may occur.
Do not print images in the area indicated in red and green in the figure below.

18 5. Precautions
<Note>
When printing customer data after completing adjustment, registration may not be performed properly due to
various reasons such as a difference in humidity condition, production lot of the paper used or difference in the
image areas on the front and back sides.
Always use the same paper as the one you will be using in the actual production print and for the final confirmation
of the adjustment result.
