SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
!
• Chainsaws are potentially dangerous tools. Professional training is
recommended before first use.
• If you are not familiar with chainsaws and their use, it is recommended that
you obtain further more detailed instructions and information regarding chain-
sawing in addition to reading these instructions fully. We also recommend that
inexperienced chainsaw users practice cutting logs on a saw-horse or log
cradle before attempting to prune a tree.
• Keep work area clean.
Do NOT start cutting until you have a clear work area, secure footing and a
planned, clear escape path from the falling tree or limb.
• Use extreme caution when cutting small size brush and saplings because the
slender material may catch the saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull
you off balance.
Do NOT operate a chainsaw at height in a tree, always stand on the ground.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back so that you
will not be struck when the tension in the wood fibres is released.
Do NOT expose the unit to rain.
Do NOT use the unit in damp or wet conditions.
Do NOT use the unit in presence of flammable liquids or gases.
• Keep children, bystanders and pets away from the work area.
• When not in use, unit should be stored in a dry, secure location – well out of
the reach of children.
• Always fit the chain guard when not in use.
• Never force the chainsaw - it will do the job better and safer when used
correctly.
Do NOT use for cutting plastic, masonry, non-wood building materials.
Do NOT use the unit for any use other than those described in these
instructions.
• Make sure you are suitably dressed with correct standard Personal Protective
Equipment.
Do NOT wear loose clothing or jewellery that can get caught in moving parts.
Heavy duty gloves and sturdy non-slip work boots are recommended when
working outdoors.
• Wear a hairnet to contain long hair which can get caught in moving parts.
• Always wear suitable head, ear and eye protection.
• Carry with the engine stopped and your finger off the trigger.
• Periodically inspect chainsaw for damage. Do NOT use if damaged in any way.
• Always clean after use and replace worn parts when performance becomes
r
educed.
• Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
Turn off the unit when not in use, before servicing or cleaning, and when
changing accessories and attachments.
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing. Always use common sense.
Do NOT operate when you are tired, ill or under the influence of alcohol or
drugs.
• Using this unit can be strenuous. Remember to take regular breaks. Tiredness
may result in loss of control.
• Keep all parts of the body away from the chain when switched on.
• Before you start the saw, make sure the saw chain is not in contact with
anything.
• Always check for damaged parts before first and every use or if the unit is
dropped. Do NOT use if any part is damaged in any way. Check for alignment
of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any
other conditions that may affect operation. Any part that is damaged should be
properly repaired or replaced by an authorised service centre unless otherwise
indicated elsewhere in these instructions.
• Regularly check that all the fixings are secure as vibrations in use may cause
them to loosen over time.
• When servicing, use only identical replacement parts.
Do NOT use the unit if the switch does not turn it on and off.
Do NOT operate a chainsaw that is damaged, improperly adjusted, or is not
completely and securely assembled. Be sure that the saw chain stops moving
when the trigger is released before using to cut wood.
• Guard against kickback.
• Only use replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or the equivalent.
• For outdoor domestic use only.
RESIDUAL RISKS
Despite the above warnings and due to the nature of the product, there remains
a residual risk, which cannot be prevented when using this unit. The following
potential hazards might apply:
• Contact with exposed saw teeth of the saw chain (cutting hazards).
• Access to the rotating saw chain (cutting hazards).
• Unforeseen, abrupt movement of the guide bar (cutting hazards.)
• Parts flung out from the saw chain (cutting/injection hazards).
• Wood splinter ejection.
• Inhalation of wood particles and dust - there may be health risks caused by
breathing in dust, especially dust generated from sawing oak, beech and MDF.
• Skin contact with the lubricating oil.
• Loss of hearing, if ear protection is not worn.
INTENDED/UNINTENDED USE
W
hen using the unit, the user must arrange to use personal protective
equipment according to the instructions. Parts of the intended use are detailed in
the instructions safety warnings and references for use by those who work with
the chain saw or maintain it, therefore the user must be familiar with the
instructions. Only use original or approved spare parts (e.g. guide bar; saw
chain).
Vibration Warning!
Prolonged use of chainsaws or any other machine that vibrates in use, may
produce a medical condition called “white finger disease”, “Raynaud’s
phenomenon”, or “carpal tunnel syndrome”. These conditions can cause
numbness, burning sensations and circulation damage, and may reduce the
hand’s ability to feel and regulate temperature.
T
he factors that contribute to these conditions are not fully known, but high
vibrations may be a cause.
Users should take precautions to minimise the risks which include:
• Wear gloves
• Keep hands warm
• Take breaks from prolonged use
• Keep the chainsaw sharp so that it operates as smoothly as possible
• Maintain a firm grip but do not squeeze too tight and for too long at any one
time. Continual and regular users should monitor their hands and fingers and if
any symptoms occur, or if you are worried at any time, cease use and consult
your medical practitioner for further advice.
Warning! Restriction of use.
Please check with your local authority before using a chainsaw as there may be
regulations in force that restrict their use e.g. in times of drought, or noise
restrictions.
Warning! Hearing protection.
It is recommended that safety ear/hearing protection is worn at all times when
operating this unit. Engine noise may damage your hearing. Regular users should
have frequent hearing tests with their medical practitioner. The hearing
protection should be suitable for defending hearing for the following levels:
Sound pressure level according to ISO22868 LPA:108dB(A).
Sound pressure level according to ISO22868 LWA: <116dB(A)
Exposure to noise may cause hearing impairment, interfere with communication,
disturb sleep, cause cardiovascular and pyscho-physiological effects. It is
recommended to use the chainsaw for short periods, and include rest periods in
your work plan. Always use hearing protection.
Inhalation Warning!
Using the unit may generate dust, mist and fumes containing chemicals that
could be harmful to the user. Dust alone may also be harmful and should not be
inhaled. Never use the unit to cut anything that is known to contain a harmful
substance such as asbestos. Always operate the unit in a well-ventilated location,
preferably outdoors. Remember that the oil used to lubricate this machine may
give off harmful fumes in use, and when filling – always ensure there is sufficient
ventilation as soon as you start the engine. A dust mask or breathing apparatus
is recommended safety equipment, and anyone with a respiratory or other
breathing medical condition is advised to consult their medical practitioner
before using the chainsaw.

OPERATION
Adjusting Pole length
The Pole Pruner has a telescoping pole assembly that will exceed from 1.8m
(fully retracted) to 2.6m (fully extended). There are two inner poles that can
be retracted or extended. Coupling nuts are used to hold the pole in
position at any extended length.
To extend the pole, turn the knob 2, counterclockwise. Pole will slide freely.
Pull inner pole section out to desired length of extension.
To lock pole in position, turn nut clockwise until firmly hand tight.
If fully extended inner pole 1 length is not desired, Inner pole 2 can be
extended too following same steps as described above.
HOW TO OPERATE
Extension cords
Use proper extension cords with this Pole Pruner. Use only extension cords
marked for outdoor use. Use proper sized cord with this Pole Pruner. Cord must
be heavy enough to carry current needed. An undersized cord will cause voltage
drop at Pole Pruner. Pole Pruner will lose power and overheat.
Keep cord away from cutting area. Make sure cord does not catch on branches or
logs during cutting. Inspect cords often. Replace damaged cords. The extension
cord my come undone from the power cord during use. To avoid this, make a
knot with the two cords.
Note: Some models come with cable long enough for operation. In this case,
extension cable is not necessary. Always use a RCD plug.

TO PRUNE BRANCHES FROM A TREE
D
o not cut any branch larger than 19cm thick. This item is not designed to fell
large trees, it is for pruning. Cut lower branches first and work up the trunk.
Prune heavy branches in several sections to reduce the weight of the branch and
strain on the saw. To avoid tearing the bark, perform a cut on the underside of
the branch and then cut the top. The optimum angle is 60º but this can be
adjusted to suit your requirement.Do not over reach and hold the body of the
machine above shoulder height as this is not a stable position (the pole and
cutter will of course be above shoulder height). When using the pruner, be aware
of overhead wires, power lines, etc. that may over hang your operating area.
Trimming a tree (pruning) is the process of cutting limbs from a living tree.
Make sure your footing is firm. Keep feet apart. Divide your weight evenly on
both feet.
Follow directions below to trim a tree.
Make first cut six inches from tree trunk on underside of limb. Use top of guide
bar to make this cut.
Cut 1/3 through diameter of limb. See diagram above.
Move the Pole Saw four inches further out on limb. Make second cut from above
limb.
Continue cut until you cut limb off.
Make third cut as close to tree trunk as possible on underside of limb stub. Use
top of guide bar to make this cut. Cut 1/3 through diameter of stub.
Make fourth cut directly above third cut. Cut down to meet third cut. This will
remove limb stub.
KICKBACK SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR CHAINSAW USERS
WARNING
Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object,
or when the wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut. Tip contact
in some cases may cause a lightning fast reverse reaction, kicking the guide
bar up and back towards the operator. Pinching the saw chain along the top
of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back towards the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to Iose control of the chainsaw,
which could result in serious personal injury.
As a chainsaw user you should take several steps to keep cutting jobs free from
accident or injury.
(1) With a basic understanding of kickback you can reduce or eliminate the
element of surprise. Sudden surprise contributes to accidents.
(2) Use a firm grip with thumbs and fingers encircling the handle. A firm grip will
help you reduce kickback and maintain control of the saw.
(3) Make certain that the area in which you are cutting is free from obstructions.
Do not let the nose of the guide bar make contact with a log, branch, or any
other obstruction which could be hit while you are operating the saw.
!
(
4) Cut at high engine speeds.
(5) Do not overreach .
(6) Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the
s
aw chain.
(7) Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer or the
equivalent.
AVOIDING PULL-IN
Pull-in can occur when the bottom of the chain is used for cutting and is stopped
suddenly by hitting a foreign object or getting pinched. This pulls the chainsaw
forwards and may cause the user to lose control. Pull-in can also occur when the
chain is not running at full speed when contact is made with the wood.
• Ensure the chain is rotating at full speed and is correctly positioned when
making a cut.
AVOIDING PUSH-BACK
Push-back can occur when the top of the chain is used for cutting and is stopped
suddenly by hitting a foreign object or getting pinched. This pulls the chainsaw
towards the user and may cause the user to lose control.
• Take care not to twist the chainsaw as it is removed when bucking from
underneath the log.
Do NOT cut more than one log at any one time.
• Be aware of situations that may cause the chain to pinch or pull.
WARNING
It is recommended to first practice sawing easy logs. This
also helps you get accustomed to your unit. Always follow
the safety regulations. The chainsaw must only be used for
cutting wood. It is not suitable for cutting any other type
of material. Vibrations and kickback vary with different
types of woods. Do not use the chainsaw as a lever for
lifting, moving or splitting objects. It is not necessary to
force the saw into the cut. Apply only light pressure while
running the engine at full throttle. When the saw chain is
caught in the cut, do not attempt to pull it out by force,
but use a wedge or a lever to open the way. Do not fit any
other tools to the chainsaw or use for any other purpose
other than those specified in these instructions.
If a blockage occurs, swith off the chainsaw immediately
and remove the obstruction. Be aware the chainsaw could
block and start moving again before you have cleared the
obstruction. Never attempt to unblock while switched on.
be aware that if the blockage occurs, the machine could
cause you to lose balance. Always ensure you have a firm
foothold.
!
O
PERATION
B
UCKING AND LIMBING
Bucking is cutting a fallen log into smaller
lengths. Limbing is the removal of
branches from a fallen tree.
WARNING
Always ensure you have a firm foothold. Do not
s
tand on the log. Be alert to the rolling over of
a cut log. Especially when working on a slope,
stand on the uphill side of the log. Follow the
instructions in For Safe Operation to avoid
kickback of the chainsaw.
Before starting work, check the direction of
bending force inside the log to be cut. Always
finish cutting from the opposite side of bending
direction to prevent the guide bar from being
caught in the cut.
A log lying on the ground (F17)
Saw down half way, then roll the log over and
cut from the opposite side.
A log hanging off the ground (F18)
In area A, saw up from the bottom one-third and finish by sawing down from the
top. In area B, saw down from the top one-third and finish by sawing up from
the bottom.
Cutting limb of fallen tree (F19) First check to which side the limb is bent.
Then make the initial cut from the bent side and finish by sawing from the
opposite side.
BUCKING TECHNIQUES
Log supported along entire length. Cut up from beneath the buck being
careful not to cut into the ground.
Log supported on one end, proceed First, make an insertion from beneath,
as if using a saw horse. cutting up 1/3 of the buck diameter to
avoid splintering. Secondly, cut from
above the buck to meet the first insertion.
Avoid pinching.
Log supported on both ends. Make a cut from above the buck of 1/3 of
the buck diameter, equidistant between
the supports at each end, to avoid
splintering. Cut up from beneath to meet
the first cut. Avoid pinching.
Note: The best way to hold a log while bucking is to use a saw horse. When this
is not possible, the log
should be raised and
supported by limb
stumps or by using
supporting logs. Ensure
the log being cut is
securely supported.
BUCKING USING A SAW HORSE
1. Hold the chainsaw firmly and keep the saw to the right of your body while
cutting.
2. Keep the left arm as straight as possible.
3. Keep weight on both feet.
The chainsaw should only be used when the buck has
sturdy, reliable support. The machine should be held to
the right of the body, at a safe distance.
The chain needs to be moving at full speed before coming into contact with the
wood. When this has been achieved, the machine should be fixed to the wood
using dogs. During cutting this support should be used as a lever.
• Hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands and keep the chainsaw to the right
of your body while cutting.
• Keep the left arm as straight as possible.
• Keep weight on both feet.
CHAINSAW TENSION ADJUSTMENT
WARNING: Unplug Pole Pruner from power source before adjusting saw
chain tension.
WARNING: Cutting edges on chain are sharp. Use protective gloves when
handling chain.
WARNING: Maintain proper chain tension always. A loose chain will
increase the risk of kickback. A loose chain may jump out of guide bar
groove. This may injure operator and damage chain. A loose chain will cause
chain, guide bar, and sprocket to wear rapidly. Check and adjust the tension
frequently.
Note: For pre-assembled models, the saw chain tension is properly set at factory.
A new chain will stretch. Check new chain after first few minutes of operation.
Allow chain to cool down. Readjust chain tension.
Before adjusting chain, loosen the guide bar knob, making sure it is only finger
tight. Use the hex key to tighten the guide bar nut. After chain tension is correct,
tighten guide bar knob firmly. If not, guide bar will move and loosen
chain tension. This will increase the risk of kickback. This can also damage
Pole Pruner.

S
KATING /BOUNCING
When the chainsaw fails to dig in during a cut, the guide bar can begin hopping
or dangerously skidding along the surface of the log or branch, possibly resulting
i
n the loss of control of the chainsaw. To prevent or reduce skating or bouncing,
make sure the saw chain establishes a groove for cutting.
