The house to the left is located in the Old Village of
Charleston, SC, where the cross bar decorative porch
design is extremely popular. To meet code with this
design, many Architects are using horizontal wires;
however, this homeowner wanted a screen porch without
the wires. To get around the wires for inspection he
installed plexiglass panels in the bottom portion of porch
until we could install MeshGuard. Now the Homeowner is
able to enjoy his screen porch, wire free.
FAQ
1. How do you know the proper materials are being used in order
to meet code?
In order to meet code, you must have all the components in the
MeshGuard system – MeshGuard Base, MeshGuard Flat Spline,
MeshGuard Steel Retainer Strip, and MeshGuard Screen. These
are identiable by the orange on the rounded side of the spline, the
orange on the ends of the screen, and the MeshGuard stamp on the
steel rod and base. If any alternate material is used when installing
this system, it will result in the warranty being voided for it no longer
meets testing and building standards.
3. How much pressure can this system stand?
During testing, MeshGuard has succeeded the 50lb per square foot
load test as well as the 2x Design Pressure.Should you need testing
information to conrm this, please contact
2. Will you see the orange on the screen and spline once installed?
No. The orange has been strategically placed in order for it to not
be visible once the installation of MeshGuard is completed. It is
essentially there as an identier for Building Code Ofcials. The
orange portion on the spline is rolled down into the groove of the
MeshGuard base and the orange ends of the screen are removed
prior to applying the cap.
4. What is the tear strength?
Tear Strength is derived from ASTM D5733 in LBF. The value for
warp is 26.3 and the ll is 24.0.
